Mt. Greenwood Park Issues, Anyone?

Two posts were made regarding Mt. Greenwood Park issues. Does anyone know who the residents would speak to? Can a meeting to discuss the issues surrounding the park be scheduled with Rugai or the head of Mt. Greenwood Park? Obviously there are issues. We know the City is broke.

This past summer there were issues with vandalism in the new playground. The playground was full at the time. Why weren't the police called immediately by the moms and dad's there at the time? Because the kids vandalizing the playground were neighborhood kids? We need to step up and protect what is ours. Residents of Mt. Greenwood fought hard and many people raised tons of money to get that park the way it is.

I would like to know why park rules are not enforced in Mt. greenwood park. People from all over bring their dogs to crap in our park, even in the new ball fields because the police in their suburban parks enforce the law. They come here, no leash, bait the squirrels, and get joy watching their dogs try to kill them. enough is enough.

*Dogs should be leashed at all times. If you see this kind of thing going on, call the police. After a few tickets, these people should learn that this kind of behavior is UNACCEPTABLE.

Why won't they put a snow fence up in Mt. Greenwood park like they did years ago? Us that live across from the park are chest deep in snow and cannot get out of our driveways because of drifting snow. Called the aldermans office and they said they can't afford it. What a joke.

there are several police officers that live on the block and see this and do nothing. We call the police for underage drinking and vandalism in the park and there is no response, so why would the police respond for a dog. It's a shame the taxpayers get the worst service while the non-taxpayer gets the best.

When we get heavy rain or melting snow the park looks like a lake. The people that enjoy walking or jogging or pushing their handicapped children have to go on the street or cancel their day. I would like to know why. The park still has concrete lamp posts. Park benches are broken or tipped so bad you can't sit on them. If you want to see beautiful parks, go to Washington or Jackson parks. park employees are out at 3 am picking up trash. I know, I work there.

thank you so much for this web site. It's been a long time coming. If you call the alderman or the city you might as well talk to the wall. Maybe this will waken deaf ears and people will participate in their behalf. I found this site from a friend, you should put this site in the southtown so everyone can see someone cares about us and our community. God bless you.

There are loose dogs in the park ALL the time! There is one older lady who sits in her car and blows a whistle for her dog to come back. The dog must be deaf since he NEVER comes back to her. Also I see people out there and they NEVER pick up thier dog crap, it really makes it miserable for the rest of us! There are alot of responsible owners also who truly enjoy the park.

I would like to know about our fire protection and ambulance responce. If you have a medical emergency, I hope it's minor or you can get to the hospital yourself because your closest ambulance at 111th and albany is on the east side. and your next ambulance is at 80th and kedzie, and if they are busy, your next bet is 77th and Pulaski and 75% of the time they are east of ashland ave. Check the records. If you have a heart attack in Mt. Greenwood you will have at least a 15 to 20 minute wait. If you complain you are making things up. Call the city C.F.D and find out where amb. 17 has been, it ain't been around here

Give me a break! I am a Mt. Greenwood resident and I walk my dog nightly around the park. I let my dog off the leash to run because he's well behaved. I'm tired of looking at tipped over garbage cans, trash everywhere, broken glass, broken benches, kids hanging out smoking and drinking in the parking lots, not to mention the images of male genitalia drawn on sidewalks all over the park. A few weeks ago I was walking my dog and I came upon a teenage girl squating and urinating by a tree. I'm worried that my animal is going to ram a piece of glass up his paw. Get a grip on your kids and don't worry about the dogs. It took firm discipline, training and guidance to get my dog to behave himself. The animals are at the park with an adult. Are your children???

if you walk your dog at night and are responsible we that border the park appreciate that. But come by during the day. I love dogs, I have a dog, but my dog will no go in the park, he makes in my backyard and I clean it every day because if you see what i see every day in this park you would go elsewhere. Rats favorite meal is dog poo, if you know what i mean there is nothing better than having your morning coffee and look out your window and watch a unleached dog take a nice steamer and the owner walk away. The people that live here see you, as much as you think we don't, there is always somebody seeing what you do.

This is what is annoying and a crap excuse. Because I am a cop and finally off duty I should then take action about underage drinking?

This is the mentality of the city. Why send police resources to an area when there are so many police living there. They can take careof it themselves!

A lot of the police in the area work in busy/fast areas of the city. Mostly by choice. Why? cause we have all been brought up on good values in working hard for a pay check. But when we come home and see minor things a majority do something about it. Police take action off duty, non police call 911. The big problem is the staff of the 22nd District do not care as much it seems like

We don't want a off duty officer to be on duty 24/7, but you would think police officers in 22 would have enough respect for off duty police, fire, sanitation and all city workers who do work hard for this city and pay alot of taxes to have some type of priority as far as safety, health and a good place to live!!!!

One of the big problems is if you do call in a problem and it happens to involve a M/1 the dispatchers blow you off. Trust me, 1's think Mt Greenwood is nothing but racist and if you call in about a 1 you are racist. The hold or never dispatch the jobs.

People should take responsibility and clean up after their pets.Dog owners that exercise their dogs off leash in the park should be able to do so if they are able to control their pet.Once you start chasing the neighborhood kids out of the parks, and the dog walkers, you will be opening the doors to a whole other set of people and problems.Be careful of what you wish for people! Stop complaining. As for policemen being off duty, they get involved if it is a serious crime, what the civilian believes to be soooooooooo serious is not worth losing are pension over, or losing any time at work.

Here's the REAL deal. 022nd District Police officers are the hind end of the DEPARTMENT. They do not respect off duty coppers nor do they help out when their off duty brothers in blue need their help the most. They side with a__holes on your block and they are not impartial. 022nd District needs a cleaning of the house so to speak.

Well as far as the police officers that live on the block and do nothing, let me ask you this...how many of you work for free off duty? We call to, what would you like coppers to do, spend even more time away from their families? Especially when it comes to most of YOUR spoiled rotten little brats that people of the neighborhood let stay out passed 8. Don't blame the off duty guys, blame the mopes that live east of the tracks that tie up our beat cars. OR MAYBE TRY GOING TO A CAPS MEETING AND COMPLAIN!!!!! Last one there was ONE person at. Oh wait, that might involve you actually having to interact with someone face to face, instead of hiding behind a keyboard and a monitor.

Get a better snowblower....I Did!

The 'dog in the park' issue goes beyond a dog pooping in the park. My son is 5 years old, and allergic to dogs. It is NOT okay to let your dog run free in the park no matter how well trained they are. Many times my son runs away from a dog, and the owner says to me, "it's okay, he doesn't bite."
The playground clearly states, "No dogs allowed." My son has a right to run free in the playground, your dog does not!!
Please keep your dog out of the playground, and on a leash in the park.

Thats funny. My dog is allergic to 5 yr olds. I hate it when they come up and try to pet my dog while its on its leash and I'm walking it around the neighborhood. I'm keeping an eye on my dog you should do the same for your kid. Please keep an eye on your kid and don't blame me when something happens because you were too lazy to keep an eye on them.

The complaint is not about your dog. The best thing for a dogs long life is exercise, dogs are great, it,s the dog owners that need to show some respect for the neighbors and neighborhood. Most do, and the majority that don't do not live here, they are form Oak Lawn, Crestwood, Alsip, etc. who cannot do this in their parks because the police enforce the park laws. Maybe someday we will be so lucky!

I'm 80 years old and can,t afford a new snow blower, what I need is the services that my tax dollars have been paying for instead of money going elsewhere like MIllenium Park, planters in the middle of the street, and welfare for those who refuse to work. I worked hard all my life and my life now should be a little easier instead of harder.

It's a shame your dog is allergic to 5 year olds, how about 3,4 & 6 year olds? Is you dog so smart that it knows 5 year olds and is only allergic to them. Please wake up or you will find yourself in court. Just think, the money you save by not going to court, you can get your dog allergy shots!!!

At the Town Hall Meeting on November Alderman Rugai announced that the development at 111th & Kedzie had finally met all requirements for building permits. We should see ground breaking in early spring with a completion date of September 09. I have had the September 09 opening date of Walgreens confirmed with a Walgreens headquarters employee. We did loose Starbucks, but that was because Starbucks decided to shut down so many stores. Dunkin Donuts is working on a propsal for the space.

Let me first say that this is a great vehicle for making a neightborhood into a family. Thank you for all of your hard work. I see alot of negative comments. How about this, instead of complaining about everything, let's work as a neighborhood should, like when we grew up in Mount Greenwood. First, the snow problem across from the park, have the kids use their service hours to shovel for those residents, especially the 80 year old women that commented, she is correct, she did her fair share of hard work. The kids causing trouble and damage in the park; if you know who they are, call their parents, most parents would be embarrased by this and make their kids pick up the steaming dog poop in the park as punishment. If they are not embarrassed, then shame on them!! Kids and dogs alike need to be watched at all times, don't rely on someone else, take responsibility. Alot of cops at 22 also live in 22, they are doing the best they can, but they need our help, not our negative comments. If you believe we need another ambulance, start a petition, their is strength in numbers. Problems are only problems if there is no solution. Let's use this as a sounding board for finding solutions to make things better for all of us that live in Mount Greenwood. What kind of town do you want to live in? Then let's work to get it that way!!

I agree with the person who stated that it's not the police officers job to keep these kids out of the park at night. I live by Mt. Grenwood scholl and I watch parents drop there kids off there at night especially in the summer. The teenagers are fighting, drinking, swearing, and vandilizing the playground. I have spoke with the principal and the Alderman. In the summer you can't leave your windows open at night or even take your young children there past 5pm. When the adults do try to get these kids out of the park all we get is disrepect and hear "call the cops I don't care my dad is a cop." Also for those of you parents who give your teenagers full reign of a vechile their using Homan from 109th to 108th as a drag strip. I have seen as many as 8-10 kids piled into a white convertable Lebaron doing about 70mph down the street and spinng out of control onto the side walk. PARENTS DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILDREN ARE?

I agree with the post regarding working together. Being negative and throwing rude remarks around will not help anything. We need to come together and create a plan for what we want Mt. greenwood to be. Then we need to get a committee that will present it to the Alderman's office. If we work in numbers it is possible to get everything done.

The 80 year old women who needs her sidewalk shoveled should call the schools to see if anyone needs service hours - plenty of the 7th and 8th graders do need the hours. If you do try this and it works please post your outcome.
