Recycling Progam - Earn free stuff for your garbage!

Recycle Bank is a recycling rewards program. Many Blue Bins in the ward (not all just yet) are part of a pilot program to incentivize recycling. And it's EASY and FREE!

Stickers were placed on carts thoughout the ward to signify qualified recyclers. Folks just need to register their carts on line and they can earn points with every pick up. These points translate into cool stuff like restaurant rewards, coupons, etc. This program is FREE and residents only need to log on and register their address. The recycling trucks have all been outfitted with weighing devices (paid for by Recycle Bank, not the city) to register the recyclables to your address. Then you can go on line and redeem the points for great stuff!

Check out their website to register and for information: www.RecycleBank.com
(Or residents can call: 1-888-727-2978)

Enter this promo code online and you can earn EXTRA bonus points: CHIGREENTEAM02

Last Poll

As you saw, 46% said no, the church and society should not stop shaking hands and 41% said yes...pretty close.

Keep the sanitizer with you at all times...flu season is coming soon, and with the swine flu, its just another reason to be extra careful.

Tribune Poll - Stroger at 10% approval rating

I know this off topic, but I am sooo excited that 90% of people in Cook County do not like Stroger...10% approval??? That's lower than Blagovich before he was arrested....Could it be he will be ousted????

In my personal opinion, he pulled a fast one...we all knew Daddy Stroger was not going to fulfil his term if elected, a real gentleman would have pulled out... Claypool could have won that election. But, I am sure someone else was calling the shots behind that one. I can't wait to get this joke of a "politician" out of office. I hate the way he smirks....like, so what if hire all my family members (hehe, I'll just raise taxes, on cigarettes, water, pop, alcohol, etc.) I know, I know, it makes him just like all the other politicians. What happened to democracy? Elections? Someone wants to retire, they get re-elected and then decide to retire, therefore, someone is appointed for them -- Whammo! No election....

KC's of Mt. Greenwood - Doing Great Things!

From Southtownstar.com

Father Perez Knights of Columbus Council 1444 on Chicago's Southwest Side both gave and received during its July meeting.

Grand Knight Rich Doyle presented BJ Moonan, chairman of Perez's Drive for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities, a plaque from the Illinois Knights of Columbus State Council recognizing Perez for raising the greatest amount of money per capita throughout the 2008-09 drive among all Illinois councils during its drive.

Doyle then presented Pat Lynch, chairman of the General Assistance Fund Drive, with a state plaque acknowledging Perez for raising the greatest amount of money per capita for the assistance fund throughout the 2008-09 drive among all Illinois councils. These funds are distributed to Catholic parishes and schools that are victims of disasters such as Hurricane Katrina.

Moonan, in turn, presented the proceeds of Perez's Drive for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities to representatives of 14 community-based organizations that provide services for persons with intellectual disabilities or organize Special Olympics programs.

The recipients included secular organizations and religious organizations, some Catholic and some other denominations.

They included Davis Developmental School, Mount Greenwood Elementary School, Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, Elim Christian School, Manteno Veterans Home, St. Christina Special Religious Education, Misericordia, Garden Center, Covenant Enabling Residence, Mount Greenwood Special Olympics, Stevenson School, Grimes School, St. Cajetan Special Religious Education and Mark Twain School.

"When my brother knights enter the order, they commit to performing charitable works in their community," Moonan said. "This evening demonstrates that commitment very vividly. God bless you people who continue to provide quality services to our brothers and sisters with intellectual disabilities."

Father Perez will kick off its 2009-10 drive Sept. 18.

Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to males 18 years of age and older who are practicing Catholics. The Knights of Columbus is an organization of 13,000 councils and 1.7 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan.

For more information on membership, contact Jack Ullrich at (773) 881-3081.

Answer to the Question

Boy, I can't fool you guys. (Now, honestly, how many cheated and looked it up?)

The Dutch and Germans were the original founders of Mt. Greenwood. They were followed later by all the rest.

New settings to comment

Anyone can read the blog (so all you lurkers are safe). However, in order to post any comments, you must become a member. If you look to the left of the blog site, you will see followers. You can become a member there. (you need to start a google account). Here is a link to open your google account. It’s easy, and it’s free.

I did this to alleviate all the anonymous posters who sign on and post nothing but crap and lies. You don't have to sign in with your true given name, but I will be able to see your information and block you permanently from commenting if it comes to that, especially those who like to email in the middle of night with the horrible, mean and vicious comments. You people kiss your mothers with that mouth?

This is the last ditch effort to make this blog work like it should. I may lose readership, but so be it. This is what it has come to in order to restore some king of order on this blog. Call it censorship or a dictatorship, but like I have said a million times before, if you don't like it, don't read it.

Rainbow Cone is NOT CLOSING!

Rainbow Cone is not closing and please stop by and have a cone. I don't understand why someone would stoop so low as to lie, but this Southside Institution will be keeping their doors open....which is great because it is such a family tradition.

Negative comments about businesses

The time has come to no longer allow ANY negative posts about any businesses! My ass is in a sling as to the negative comments, and therefore, will no longer be allowed. You might not like the business or their practices, but there will be no place for those comments here. There may be freedom of speech in America, but not on blogs. State all the postive comments you want, but the negative cannot be allowed. There is actually a long story behind this post, but needless to say, if I continue to allow these posts, the blog will be shut down.

*Rainbow cone is NOT closing. Thanks to the person who stated the untrue facts... Please stop by and have a cone.

*As to Ben & Jerry, if you disagree with their practices, don't patronize the business. That's your choice.

*All About Me, again, can you be sure of your facts? This woman has contributed a lot to charities and is running a business in Mt. Greenwood, isn't that what we all wanted? She is a good woman and the negative talk is uncalled for.

So, in closing, negative business comments will not be posted. I hope that is clear enough so that I am not getting comments about why your comment was not posted.

Look for changes in commenting - COMING SOON!

Thanks!
