Days gone by - Southside Irish Parade

I was sent this video of the 1958 Southside Irish Parade..(79th Street).

As you will notice...there were floats, yes, actual floats. People standing on the curb waiving their hands, not their cups overflowing with beer. No fights breaking out.

It looks like the actual Mayor of Chicago (Daley, Sr.) actually had enough pride in his Irish heritage to show up.

WOW... take a peek at the good old days.

True or False?

I have been getting a ton of emails from friends and family today about an "alleged" gang initation.

It states that women should avoid Wal-Mart stores this weekend as these gangbangers are going to be randomly shooting women.

I don't want to cause women to panic, however, if it is true, then a warning to all of our wives, mothers, sisters, etc. is in order.

I know there are plenty of cops that read this blog, so what say you? Is this true or not?

***update**** I checked on snopes.com - this story is false and has been flying around the internet and such since 2005 in various forms.

GIVING BACK 2 BECKY BENEFIT - TOMORROW!

From Jim McMahon:

There is a Benefit Party this Saturday, 03/21/09 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Bourbon Street. It is being held for a young Oak Lawn woman by the name of Becky Clifford who was tragically paralyzed last June in a fall outside of her home. I'm asking EVERYONE to all come together for a worthwhile cause and come to this event in support for this fine woman and her family. She really needs our help and support, so let's show Chicago what the Southwest Side is all about, and how we take care of our neighbors. Also please be kind enough to pass this on to your friends, relatives and neighbors........Thanks
