The city put in a new street by me. The street was in December, great month for street installation. The street was a cheap asphalt built road. They piced it together one side of the street one day the other side another day. The middle never met and now it has a built in gutter in the middle. Nice work City workers, nice job Daley! I bet if that was his new street they would rip it out and do it right.
It would be great to have speed bumps from 108th and Homan to 110th and Homan. There are 2 schools and a playground. Cars constantly fly down Homan Ave and God forbid anyone stop at the stop sign. Or maybe at least make it a one way street.
good luck with the speed bumps - 103rd & Homan got temp bumps, which they took back. They said the block did not have the traffic volume. Some crazy # of cars need to go down a day... Met with Rugai and streets and transportation - no luck. This block alone has 50+ kids. Worst offenders - the school bus!
Speed humps are horrible on cars and emergency vehicles atke alot longer to get to emergency calls. What ya need is police to be hired and watching the traffic and issuing citations. Why should veryone suffer because of a few? The city refuses to hire police. We are federally funded at 13500 we have like 9000 sworn. Many of whic are bosses that dont work the street. get on Rugai and the other alder-thieves to hire more cops. Get the traffic unit to monitor that street a few days and nights and you will see tickets getting written like mad! Speed humps suck.
My children attend St. Christina. It is terrible around there during the morning hour drop off. People are pulling in driveways to avoid going around the block. They should have a cop there giving tickets.
i would like to see 99 and washtenaw one way going north because when there is a train car shoot the the street and we have alot of kids playing and crossing

Your next Poll should be the Gas Tax increase. How soon State Senator Cullerton forgot how high the gas was. Our local elected officials better not vote for an increase.
Dropping off at QM is awful! Right on 103rd with cars whizzing by. Occasionally there is a CPD car parked on the south side of 103rd -but I have NEVER seen an EP squad, and the school is IN EP.

Do you drive your kids to school??
February 17, 2009 7:56 PM
I do drive them only because I live over 6 blocks away and have younger children.
for what I pay in taxes, I want curbs. Have called Rugia Office several times and get the run around. We do live in Chicago and we still don't have curbed streets.
The Kenwood / Woodlawn neighborhoods have speed bumps every 100 feet on almost every street especially around the schools, apparently the kids in that area are more important than ours! Granted they are a hindrance, but they are supposed to be. In this neighborhood they would be for protecting the kids, but in Kenwood / Woodlawn they are there to curb gang activity and drug trafficking. What a joke! All they do is hinder the police from getting to the offenders. If the junk police cars hit these bumps, they are dead where they sit. Emergency vehicles response time is slower due to these bumps. Who ever does the thinking for this city belongs in a luney bin!! The amount of money spent for these speed bumps you could hire alot more police. One more problem with these bumps, when the streets have snow on them, you can't see them, and if you hit one going over 15 mph prepare for a neck brace....
The worst is not school bus drivers, it is the suv moms especially the ones with the liitle stickers next to the city stickers indicating that someone in the family is in law enforcement or fire fighting. All these women care about is their children. Watch them to and from school and practices, rolling stop signs, speeding down the side streets trying to beat the red lights near these schools. Yet, the same people calling for more cops to patrol the neighborhood are probably the same ones belly aching that they should be locking up bad guys in bad neighborhoods when they receive that ticket that was issued for their careless driving.
If the suv moms learned to slow down and make complete stops at the stops signs, none of this would be an issue. C'mon, you know who you are. For those that don't, just look at your windshield, you are the one with the little decal next to the city sticker indicating that someone in the family is law enforcement or a fire fighter.
sewers, fancy street lights, sidewalks, streets..a park that we ourselves don't have to raise money for....where should I begin...who wanted all those roundabouts??
The school buses and postal vechiles are the worst offenders down Homan Ave. Why are there even school buses in front of Mt. Greenwood school? I don't believe that any of the children in Mt. Greenwood receive bus service even if they live several blocks away.
As a member of law enforcement I can tell you that if you have speed bumps you will get a drastic dropoff in Police presence on your block (if you get any at all, thanks Ginger). Traffic circles????? What a complete joke! I work in the ghetto and all I ever hear is that speed bumps, one-way streets, and traffic circles are done "for the children." I am hearing some of that here with regard to this subject. As a father of 3 small children, I say, WATCH YOUR CHILDREN. They are much less likely to be struck by one of these SUV-driving-maniac-police/fire-family members if you are vigilant. We don't need those traffic flow inhibitors here. Its not as if we have a rash of children getting struck by cars. Yes, I know that one child injured is too many, but it is such a rare occurance in this neighborhood that I don't see it as a problem to be addressed.
Supposedly alleged politicians possible feathers might have been getting ruffled. At one time my mother may have told me that if you possibly lay with dogs allegedly you might get fleas. The truth hurts. Perhaps some are supposedly worried that people may allegedly unite, and supposedly not vote

YOU WENT TO THE WRONG BLOG. YOU SHOULD GO TO THE EP BLOG
Actually she is lucky and can go to either blog...a lot of QM families live in Mt. Greenwood rather than EP. We actually have someone on here that lives in California but is from the neighborhood and signs on regularly... :)
105th and Kedzie on the east side of the street needs to be one way. I live there and hundreds of cars everyday do u-turns in the intersection and in the alleys all day long. Other drivers are constantly blowing their horns and we have to listen to this all day long everyday. Plus all the noise wakes my baby up, all day long.
