Monday morning brings the rain. It also brings the flood in from of the AG School. Ginger has known about this flooding for almost 2 years now. Oh wait, this is Mount Greenwood. I guess we'll just have to live with it. Funny thing, the street never flooded until the streets were resurfaced.

As long as Ginger keeps having a third party candidate run to pull votes away from her real opponent, this will NEVER happen.

Woo Hoo! I might save a quarter on every hundred dollars I spend in cook county! NOT! Still shopping out of Cook County. Why are they wasting tax payers money and repealing one quarter of one percent in sales tax? If you are going to do something do it all the way. This cut makes no impact and frankly, is an insult.

Anonymous said...

It's the typical game plan of the Democratic party, mention tax cut and they will be voted back in, the sad part about it, it works every time. For every $100 you spend, you save a $.25 in sales tax..WOW. Don't fall for this crap. Election time next year, thats why they pull this stunt. BE SMART, VOTE EVERY INCUMBENT OUT, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN AND LETS START FRESH!!!

Tired of the park flooding? It's been happening for years now. The dust bins they call ballfields are graded every day, sometimes twice a day. Everything in the area is covered in ballfield dust. Cars, homes, patio furniture, etc. I don't know how anyone could live there, let alone open their windows on a nice day. I went for a walk last year and had to leave because of these 2 clowns in a park district truck grading every field, the dust was unbelievable. This has to clog the drains. The poor cripple kids in wheelchairs enjoy their day in the park and were run out because of the dust. I called the field house to complain and was told to mind my own business, the "teams" pay fees to play ball and demand the fields be graded, so I asked why they don't wet the fields before grading to prevent the dust and was told Mt.Greenwood Park can't afford one, Give me a break. This park has to be the worst maintained in the city and nobody seems to care. Just think, your taxes are use to beautify Jackson, Washington, Douglas Parks, etc. nothing here. Wake up and demand better service and maybe the city will correct the problem with this God forsaken, pitiful park...

South Side Irish parade revelers in court Tuesday, 21 cases dismisse

April 15, 2009
By KIM JANSSEN, Staff Writer

Nearly half the criminal charges brought against the alleged drunken louts accused of ruining the South Side Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade were thrown out of court Tuesday after Chicago cops failed to appear in court.

The record 54 arrests at this year's parade were a key reason given by parade organizers for canceling next year's parade. The Morgan Park district commander cited that figure as an indicator of increased public drunkenness at this year's event March 15.

But of the 39 defendants who appeared in court Tuesday on charges connected with drunkenness at the parade, 21 had their cases dismissed after the officers who signed complaints against them failed to show up in at the Calumet District courthouse, according to Chicago Law Department spokeswoman Jenny Hoyle.

Defendants charged with disorderly conduct, public urination and drinking in the street were among those who walked free from Judge Anthony Calabrese's courtroom.

Chicago Police spokesman Roderick Drew Tuesday evening said, "We're looking into this," but declined to comment further.

Does anyone know about a community meeting that was supposed to have taken place today or yesterday (14 or 15 Apr) at MTG park regarding overcrowding at MTG school? Supposedly the Alderman was to attend? Anyone know anything about this? I just heard about this 10 minutes ago...I hope I didn't miss this.

A parent of a special needs child told us this afternoon that there was to be a town hall meeting because the principal at Mt. Greenwood Elementary School wants to eliminate the Special Education Programs and send the special needs kids to a school in the Pullman/Roseland area. If Ginger is there I hope she works her magic because I think this is very unfair what the principal wants to do with children from our area to send them to areas that aren't safe!!!

i just read this morning that richie want to layoff 1600 more union worker (not police or fire)..he wants a give back from the unions..why dont all the union get together with the police and fire and tell this clown mayor to spend the money he has pack way from parking meter snd the skyway and fix the city..next he going to take money from all the retire city people. how about cutting the pay from all the people that make 100,000 or more..

Anonymous said...

The principal of Mt Greenwood did not make the decision to move some of these programs. CPS and the laws governing special education made these decisions. The school is overcrowded and continues daily to get more students from our own attendence area. The special education programs are being moved but it has not been decided to what school yet. Ald Rugai was made aware of the overcrowding in July of 2008 and did nothing to help. The whole 19th ward needs another school built here. We were told last night that we are way down on the list to get another school built here by CPS. Pre school will be cut next year. It is currently using only one classroom. Stillnot enought to house the speical ed programs and they would be cut next year as pre school will be. The pre k program is another program well needed in our community that will not be seen here. The politicans sit on catholic school boards. They will not push CPS to build here because they want to bring back students to the private schools. Not a public vs private school debate, just where political favors come into play.So waydown on the list to get another school built, overcrowded schools, and no support from our elected officials.Instead of TIF money going to fund the Olympic Dream why not reinvest it to our own community and build a school or two? Instead of SBIF programs where a large amount of money sits, move that money into building a school? The alderman got a 6% raise and an increase in menu money ($1.3 million I think)why not use a large chunk of that money to build. State Rep Joyce said the stimulus money coming in is going to repave roads. Building up infrastructure for the Olympics I suspect.

Anonymous said...

Anyone know how to find how Rugai spends her menu money? Can't find it anywhere online.

Anonymous said...

there is one reason why we willnot getting another school because we are white and we never stand up for our right as tax payer

Hmmmmm.....$1.5 million, nothing done on the corner in 10 years and no schools built.

Two-acre retail plaza proposed for Mt. Greenwood

Site at 111th and Kedzie would cater to pedestrian activity

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mayor Richard M. Daley introduced a plan to City Council today to redevelop the northwest corner of 111th Street and Kedzie Avenue, the center of the Mount Greenwood neighborhood business district, into a new two-acre shopping plaza. "Encouraging private investment in our communities is a key component of our redevelopment efforts," said Mayor Daley. "This project brings with it jobs, new retail opportunities and beautification efforts, all of which will benefit the community and its residents."

The $10.9 million project will redevelop the site with a new retail center, anchored by an 18,000-square-foot Walgreen's store, a 70-space landscaped parking lot and a 3,700-square-foot corner landscaped plaza with benches and signage that will identify the Mount Greenwood community.

The City will assist the development by contributing a 13,000-square-foot surface parking lot in the middle of the site and $1.5 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) assistance.

Since 1987, the city has entered into more than 250 redevelopment agreements with private developers to provide TIF assistance. Those projects have built or rehabbed more than 35 million square feet of commercial and industrial space.

Instead of busing the SpEd kids, why not take our "gifted" school and relocate it. That would open quite a few spots for our neighborhood kids, and wouldn't require construction. Put the "gifted" kids on a bus, they are "gifted" so they can handle whatever falls their way on a bus that is being driven by a felon. Nope, won't happen, clout babies are "gifted" and won't be affected. I get it Sp Ed has long been at the bottom of the list,

People, Mt. Greenwood was designed to be a feeder school. All the other local schools were K-6, and at that time MG had a huge Sp Ed program, because as a community we didn't allow our Sp Ed kids to be bussed.

Good idea turning Keller into a reg school. I think they (CPS) is doing this to another school on the NW side. Meet with alot of upset parents as well. What would be the boundaries for Keller and Mount Greenwood then? How many students can Keller accommodate?

I heard directly from a neightbor (very reliable) that she was up at about 5am and heard her screen door open. She was right in the hall, so she opened her main door, and found the paper delivery girl standing there with the screen door open. Paper girls, goes "OH! here's your paper" and walks away. It's a two peron team, black female and black male. No, the neighbor did not call the police, grrrr.

A week or two before another neighbor's work van was broken into and tools were stolen at the same time (about 5 am) in the morning. They are scouting the neightborhood while delivering papers, trying doors, cars, etc.

Call the police if you see something suspicious.

Thank you for the follow up information on the newspaper people. That really helps. Over by me, east of Kedzie, the people who deliver the paper are white or hispanic, man and woman team driving in a van. I've encountered them a few times but have never seen her out of the car and the man goes to the sidewalk and tossses from there. I will definitely call and confront the others should I see them do anything of the sort. Thank you again.

Even if the Officer appears in court on his misdemeanor key date, they never prosecute these cases, they just call them up and it's a revolving door. As soon as they walk up in front of the judge, he dismisses them because it costs too much money to prosecute simple "disorderly conduct" and "drinking on the public way" arrests. They are using the Officers as an excuse. Show up one day in that courtroom and watch what transpires and you'll know that I am telling the truth!

In some of these cases that were dismissed, officers had felony cases to appear on at 26 and California, they take precidence over the misdemeanor and city cases. The judge WILL NOT continue the cases until the officers can appear. Blame the Judge not the police. Remember his name when he comes up for retention.

ANOTHER good reason to cancel the newspaper! Provided of course, this is a true story and not an urban legend.

If the cops needed to be in felony court and therefore couldn't appear to press charges against the parade trouble makers, why didn't the police spokes person say so. I agree that felony charges are more important but I find it hard to belive all the officers involed had to be in felony court.

For everyone who critizied the parade committee, now you can see what they were up against all these years. Organizers can't do much if the cops don't follow through.

As was posted ... The Judge will not sustain the cases for prosecution, so the state will not prosecute ... it clogs up there calender ... like a previous poster says ... you want to see your tax dollars at work ... become a court watcher ... and you will see how many the states attorney and judge lets walk.

Not a cop, not married to one. Not a parade committee member, not married to one. Loved the parade, sad to see it go. Not the cops fault, not the committee, IT IS THE FAULT OF THE OUT OF CONTROL DRUNKS, WHO HAD TO PUSH IT TOO FAR! COPPERS SHOWING UP IN COURT, THE COMMITTEE PUTTING A BRICK WALL AROUND THE 19TH WARD, COULD NOT HAVE PREVENTED THEIR BEHAVIORS. I AM JUST GLAD THE LOWLIFES HAD TO SHOW UP IN COURT, LET THE POLICE GET BACK TO THEIR REAL JOB.

We pay the highest taxes in the city & it's not given to our Local schools. Money given by CPS is based on free lunches. WE'RE SCREWED! We have to buy teachers with cell tower money. CPS has crazy math to determine the # of teachers at schools & we're SCREWED!Hey community wake up!Inner city schools have millions with their free lunches & have 2-3 freed Asst. Prin. with some just planning parties, not teaching kids.Where's Ron Huberman? Who's checking on the millions that go to these schools? There's alot more out there wasting our tax money! Talk to teachers in the neighborhood.
How dare Ginger take credit for the meeting for the Spec. Ed. students! She never came to Mt. Greenwood when the board came out & said let's move the Spec. Ed. Mrs. Reidy, the prin. has been working feverishly since Fall on the overcrowding. Where was Ginger? Voting herself a 6% raise! Ginger doesn't want mobiles...makes the community look bad. It would alleviate the overcrowding & we could keep the spec. ed. kids in the building & send overcrowded grades to the mobiles. Dawes' enrollment is down...go pick up their air conditioned mobiles & bring them over! WAKE UP Ginger, Kevin, & Eddie...WE VOTE & WE DON'T FORGET! How DARE we be 80th on the list for schools for improvements. WHERE is our representation east of Western? WAKE UP Mt. Greenwood voters..ORGANIZE for equal money for the schools. Let's take buses to the inner city & boycott for equal money for OUR SCHOOLS!We're the new minority. We want our kids in the AG & make Keller a reg. ED school. Bus the gifted. Remember when our kids couldn't get in to these schools & they still can't. There's power in numbers...organize fight for our great neighborhood schools & all students! Look out Rev. Meeks! We want equal press & money!

Well seeing that you are all the police on this blog and all know what proper police procedure is, I will explain it to you. We all live in Cook County, where they dismiss everything, we have to call Felony Review for every Felony except Narcotics, and if you left your little soccer mommy car out front to warm up and some asshole took it because you were a moron, they charge the guy with a misdemeanor instead of a Felony because the keys were in it. Out of the hundreds of times I have been in a Misdemeanor Court I have rarely seen a case that was actually imposed any type of sentence or levy. Our justice system in this broke dick county is a joke. Also, if that officer has a higher court that day, like Felony court, then it takes precedence, some of the coppers would be on furlough or vacation and I know none of you hard working folk go into work on your vacation so why the hell should we? So when you are worried about your precious little tax dollars, look at the aldermen, look at the mayor, look at the unfairness and desparity of how us tax payers are treated over non taxpayers. Go to Englewood and ask any of them assholes if they have to pay for half of the sidewalk replaced in front of the house (they be po' even tho' they drives a new Cadillac), or how they get free lunches and breakfasts for the 20 kids that they let slide out, or how the schools in the ghetto let the parents eat the free breakfast with the kids in the morning, while I spend the 25 or 30 dollars to have breakfast with my family at the Magic. Or how when I went to register my youngest at Casell it cost me 100 dollars, for that free education that comes out of my property taxes. So you can take your Tax Dollars comment and shove it.

Does anyone know of a dog park nearby? I heard that some dog owners take them to Monroe park at 830 am sat and Sundays. Is this true?

Anonymous said...

Hey Amy, just bring your pooch to the ballfields behind the Ag. School. It's all fenced in and you can let your dog run free without the fear of him or her running away. And when your pooch takes a dump, just close your eyes and walk away, the ballplayers uniforms will pick it up for you. Sorry, I'm being a bit sarcastic, but there are creeps that do this on a daily basis. I believe the dog park in in Montrose harbor on the north side. If you go on line I'm sure you can find it...

theres a dog park in wicker park. im not sure about the monroe mornings thing but i bring my dog to monroe all the time.

Amy said...

Do a lot of dog owners take their dogs to the Mt Greenwood site?

Anonymous said...

Yes Amy, hundreds of people bring their dogs to the Mt.Greenwood park. Come join those who have no respect for others by letting their dogs run loose, Pitbulls, large canines, lap dogs etc. You can watch dogs kill squirrels, dog pooh all over because most don't pick it up. Bring your rubber boots and a cloths pin for your nose. You can meet people from the suburbs that bring their dogs to the park to do their duty because they can't do this stuff in their parks or they would get a ticket. If you care for your dogs health, take it to the dog park where it is clean. Some of the animals in the park look diseased and there are probably worms in their stool that could infect your dog just by sniffing it. You see, they don't want the mess in their yard so they bring it to a public park with no regard for the kids or others!!
