Tom Dart for Attorney General

This was written by Sharon Salustro and sent to me from a member of the CPD. This will undoubtedly affect the CFD as well as all the other departments in the City of Chicago too. NOW is the time to go to battle with the City on this, not after it's gone.

Subject: Health Insurance information for CPD retiree’s/soon to be retiree’s/active members

Hi Everyone:

The FOP monthly meeting was held April 21st with Mike Shields from the Pension Board as the “Guest Speaker.”

Mike Shields and the other Board Members working on behalf of all Retiree’s are asking for our attendance at the next Pension Board meeting.

According to Mike, the Board members that are “Daley Appointees” are getting nervous because they are now realizing that some of the Retiree’s and Active members are paying attention and taking an active interest in how and where they are spending our Pension Fund money as well as how it’s being invested, and how much has been lost. Not to mention the Fund money that the “Daley Appointees” gave to Veniecko, Daley’s nephew, so that he could use it to build housing for the Olympic Village.

The other thing that was mentioned was that the City has said that they are ceasing to pay for all (Retiree & Active) members Health Insurance effective in 2013. So that means that any Retiree who receives “Paid for” health care starting at age 60, if you are not 65 by the year 2013, you will no longer have health insurance unless you pay 100% for it.

Think about how this will affect you if you or your spouse have a pre-existing condition and the City drops the insurance, you probably won’t be able to get insurance coverage anywhere and you’ll just have to hope that you stay healthy until Medicare kicks in at age 65.

Anyway gang, Mike Shields and Company are asking that the Retiree’s and Active members flood the meeting to hear first hand what is going on and to let the Pension Board know that we are vigilantly watching so they cannot spending OUR money at their whims and we are a force to be reckoned with.

Mike said that a very nice lunch will be served afterwards to all that attend.

This meeting will be held this coming Wednesday, April 29th and starts promptly at 9:00 AM on the 16th Floor at 221 N. LaSalle Street in Chicago.

To anyone who thinks this doesn’t affect them, just remember what the Rev. Martin Niemoller from Germany wrote about the Nazi’s in 1945.

“First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me.”

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ANY CITY OF CHICAGO RETIREE OR ACTIVE MEMBER THAT YOU KNOW BECAUSE WE REALLY, REALLY NEED A SHOW OF FORCE ON THIS ONE. TAKE CARE AND HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.

Get a life! Tom Dart is a neighborhood guy, thats all the upside we look for now a days?? These politicians we have been electing are garbage! All of em. Starting with "stupid" tele-prompter reading out of touch Commi- Obama. Get a clue people, or should I say sheeple.

regarding Christina soccer - from what I was told, gangbangers in the park - no shooting. Police did arrest 3 people, and parents and kids took refuge in fieldhouse. They were playing Sacred Heart...

Where was the soccer game? Christina's field or somewhere else>

YES very true, they were playing soccer and a group of kids started to walk on the field with "their hoods up" and immediately they yelled for all of the other kids to get off the field, that is a gang sign...and the police officers who were there either coaching and/or watching immediately pulled their guns and had the kids (Christina) go into the field house and the other team got into their cars and left! There is no reason why we need to travel that far for a soccer game

Whoever you people are that are writing this stuff, cops and fire I presume, get with it. You have your jobs because and only because of leaders like Dart and Rugai and Hynes. If it wasnt for people like them, where do you think you would be? Driving a dumptruck in Alsip.

Leadership can be hard at times but these people have proven they are wise and capable.

Does anyone know how they determine what children got accepted into the preschool program at Mt. Greenwood? I Got a letter that says it was determined by need. Does anyone know how they know that? When you sign-up all you do is fill out a simple form with basic info how can they tell from that. This is a suppose to be a preschool for all program well I live in this neighborhood & pay my taxes and why can't my child go to the public preschool.Does anyone have any answers out there besides send my child to a private school.

There is an eight year waiting list to get into Mt. Greenwood school these days. Just like Bozo's circus.

Anonymous said...

if they were playing Sacred Heart, it is over near South Chicago Hosp. East of Jeffrey around 95th St.

Anonymous said...

Regarding Mt. Greenwood Preschool, all I know is that the teacher's have first dibs at a slot for their own children and the rest is a lottery pick. It is not by "need"...there is not enough information to figure that part out. I do agree, I think it's crappy that you can't get your child into a program at your own neighborhood school.

-- How about the business owner's along 111th hang a flower basket or do SOMETHING to beautify their storefronts this summer? Flower barrel? ANYTHING. The carwash on 115th and Kedzie looks beautiful every summer. 111th looks run down. Who's fault is that? If everyone in Mt. Greenwood, homeowner or business owner, took a little bit more pride, the neighborhood would be beautiful. I love living in Mt. Greenwood but the store fronts are shabby :(

In this city, you are the minority and therefore your needs are not warranted. You can not help the politicians, therefore you are not high on the list to do things for. What happened to a free public education? If you are an illegal, you are in like flint though

Your limousine never showed up for my daughters prom , left her and her friends stranded.

How right you are, just look at Mt.Greenwood Park, a.k.a Southside Swamp. The joggers/walkers have to walk on the street because the track is under water. This happens every time it rains or there is snow melt.Doesn't anyone complain to the ward office or park district? The track was supposed to be replaced years ago and all they did was patch a 30 foot section and that is where it is under water. What a SHAM-WOW. The tax-payers in this neighborhood are really getting the shaft. This should be one of the finest parks in the city yet it is one of the worst. Keep putting the same people in office and this is your reward,NOTHING DONE! Jim McMahon, please consider running for alderman. From reading your blogs here, you have the B*@$Ls to get things done.!!!

Anonymous said...

About the preschool. They only took 4 year olds this year because it will be the last year for the preschool program. This way a 3 year old is not stranded looking for a preschool for 2010-2011. The Vick center is the local preschool now. MTG grabbed an oportunity to have a preschool when there was space. Now due to the increased enrollement the preschool room will need to be used as a KDG room.

Anonymous said...

See Ginger's meeitng the needs of our community...we can have pre- school in the very limited spaced, Beverly located B Vick building. You are not listening.....We need a pre school(s) in the Mount Greenwood community! Call your alderman!

We don't put anything out because of your kids. We had in the past bought flower planters from the Garden Club. Some of us even bought our own planters to keep in front of our businesses. We leave on Friday or Saturday having nice planters out front. Come in Monday morning to find them either smashed and broken all over the sidewalks. Some of the planters have been seen on the front porches throughout the neighborhood. So maybe if your kids had respect for other peoples property, things might get spruced up around here. Until then, why should we bother. Yes, there are a few of us business owners who live in Mount Greenwood and read this blog too.

19th ward and CPS should look into the possibility of putting a pre-school class or two at the AG school. I'm sure they have room there. Why not? Someone should look into their space issues...just a thought!

Drive by the AG School at 3:15 or 3:30 then see if you want to put your kids there for pre school. I wouldn't put my kids there.

The principal of the school lives in the suburbs and can care less what the kids do to the neighborhood after school.

I agree. Drive by the Ag School at dismissal. Then drive by Marist at dismissal. Marist is clearly the better value, even at $8K+.

Business owner, I know the kids are destructive. How does Blue Island, Beverly etc do it? I wish there was a way.

I couldn't agree with you more about the principal should be fired. It's not like he has the years in to be grandfathered in. I believe the man is only in his mid 30's. But from what I've heard about him. He is good friends with the old principal David Gilligan. David Gilligan was promoted from the school by his old friend Arne Duncan, who in now part of the President Obama's Cabinet.

Does anyone know of any plans for a dog park in Beverly / Mt greenwood/Evergreen Park area?

Anonymous said...

It's May and soon the "SOUTHSIDE IRISH PARADE" also known as "SOFT-BALL SEASON" moves into Mt. Greenwood Park. If the people around Western Ave. think it is horrible for one day, try it over here every day for months. Drunken ballplayers who have no respect for the homeowners in this area, not all, but most. The park district does not supply port-a-pottys because they are tipped over, so our driveways or the nearest tree serves that purpose for male and female alike. When they arrive they fly down the street to get a parking spot and won't hesitate to block your driveway. Dust, trash and foul language is the norm. Standard gear for the player is spikes, bat, ball, cooler. Granted, the park should put more garbage cans out, but kids or dogs tip them over and wind blows trash all over. Sports are great and thats what the park is for and should not be stopped, but when you come to the park, have some respect for the people that live here and the people, other than yourself, that use the park too. So all those who dread March 17th come spend the summer around Mt.Greenwood Park..

For the love of God - stop complaining! You bought a house across from a HUGE park, that has had softball going on for at least 20 years (that I am aware of), if not longer. You and the people who live near the airports and complain about the noise need to pack up and move to the country!

The phrase is "In like Flynn" as in Errol Flynn, the actor. It was a reference to him and his lifestyle and carer.

I'm sure living by the park has it's good and bad days, probably more bad. I visit the park regularly to walk and see the mess left behind and wonder how homeowners in the area put up with it. The person who blogged that you "moved there" so live with it is probably one of the culprits. When he or she goes home garbage isn't blowing on his property and if it were, would be the first to complain. Parkside homeowner, did you camp out by the park before you moved there to see what goes on day and night or did you buy thinking it would be a nice place to live and raise the family like most of us. I'm sure you didn't realize the hundreds everyday around your home being inconsiderate, I personally feel sorry for you, those are pretty nice houses there and very well maintained. Hope the day comes when people will be a little more considerate about their neighbors and neighborhood. GOOD LUCK !

Anonymous said...

"FOR GODS SAKE" you try living near the dust-bowl. The HUGE PARK as you put it is small compared to East side parks. And those parks are well maintained compared to Mt. Greenwood. Maybe if we stopped paying taxes we would get better service.

If your kid goes to the catholic school you have no chance of getting in. The only people I know that get in have siblings in the school.
