Hey, to all the families out there that have more than one kid. By 2015 you will need to drive two cars to where ever you are going. That will be convenient. Obama "Ruler of the world" told U.S. auto manufacturers that their fleets will have to average 35 miles per gallon by the year 2015. Has anybody ever seen those pieces of crap death traps they drive around in over in Europe? Where does the government get off telling any of these companies how to run their businesses in the first place. And it's not just the auto industry, Obama's gonna be coming for everything. I was wrong, he isn't a hard left socialist, he's a full blown Marxist! In 2010 everyone needs to vote these moronic "Chicken little" buffoons out of office so we can block the Communist garbage this administration is ramming up our butts. And by the way in, 2015 when when your heading on your vacations to your cottages in Michigan, or to the water parks in Wisconsin etc. etc. in two cars, (With one car towing a trailer for your luggage.) Thank Mr.Obama for making life so much better for everyone on the planet. What a jerk.

CAPS meetings are the 3rd Thursday of the month over at the Mt. Greenwood Park Fieldhouse at 7PM. So tomorrow is the next CAPS meeting.

Speaking of the 2211 Beat Cop. Most of the businesses are lucky to see him once a week. If he is on furlough, we have NO replacement for him. Also last summer when he was almost the whole summer for surgery, we had no replacement for the entire time he was on leave. So you can complain all you want, it doesn't seem to do any good around here. I bet this NEVER happens along Western Ave. or on 95th Street.HMMM I winder why???

inandaround60655 said...

22nd district doesn't have one for tomorrow on their monthly calendar, so it may or may not be proceeding.

Anonymous said...

Mount Greenwood's Beat Cop will be on vacation after Thursday the 28th of this month. I suggest the residents start calling the commander down at 22 to request a replacement. Maybe if enough of the residents call with their concerns, there will be a replacement beat cop.

Maybe they should raise the Canadian flag over the AG school. Pay attention folks, more and more in the park everyday, not students either. They are looking for a confrontation. Resist at all cost because if you don't, the ministers will be in the park like flies on crap. The other day, two extremely large canadians were making passionate love right on the walk path, heavy gropping and all. They are doing this for a reason and you know what that reason is, they want this park too.

Having a business along 111th, I see the garbage walking down 111th every afternoon. And yes they are getting more bold and outspoken. And you bet that they are harassing anyone who is white that is walking down the street. People you need to start noticing what is going on in this neighborhood. I hear they are closing the LeClaire Court housing project at I-55 and Cicero and they're giving them housing vouchers. Guess where most of the people displaced by public housing are going. The SOUTHWEST side of Chicago.

Drive by the AG School when school lets out. Those kids will walk right out into traffic daring you to hit them. And do you think anyone from the school will do anything about these kids. HELL NO, it's not happening on their propert. They can give a damn about anyone or anything is this neighborhood. They collect their paychecks and leave at the end of the day.

You have to understand, all that has to happen is a charge of racism be labeled on the Mt.Greenwood area and the liberal news media will converge on us like locust. This is all we have. If Daley will allow city workers to live out of this crappy town then as far as I'm concerned, the chosen people can have it all, that's what the democrats want, this way they are guaranteed re-election, thats all they worry about. I grew up in Marquette Park and went through this once before. It ain't pretty and they will always win, take it to the bank.

What should you do, when you see people intimidating, baiting, and acting rudley because they can get away with it? I'm not into confrontation, so should you call the police, what would you say?? Loitering?? I don't even think they would send a car over in 2211 for loitering??

Suggestions?

Call down to the commander at 22 and start demanding more police presence on 111th when the "little darlings" are getting out of school. If enough people start calling, they're going to have to do something.

The thing about 2211 at 3:00 is that it is shift change that's why the beat car isn't there. Go by the other CPS H.S. on 103rd ST. and you will find alot of CPD babysitting those darlings while they leave school. If you want the police to do something about it, call them and let them know what is happening. The police can't be everywhere at once and if you don't call them and tell them what is going on how are they suppose to know. Just call and make something up and say they are checking door handles to see which cars are unlocked.

Anonymous said...

Call the police and say that they are checking door handles? They may show up 35 minutes later. If and when 2211 rides down the street and "if" they see something they will keep driving. All I have to say is that I had a horrible incident over at my house when a "unwated" was roaming the neighborhood pounding on cars, being combative and trying to get in my house and It took 3 calls to get help. Neighbors were even calling in and complaing. Even with two screaming very upset children and two dogs going nuts in my house. Their is more detail to this story but, not willing to share to protect my family who are also police that had to get involved. The young guys on afternoons need to either start protecting their own or turn in their badge/gun and go sling burgers and McDonald's!

What we have to do is overwhelm the park with our presence. When they see a empty park, it becomes their playground. Morning, noon and night come to the park, there is power in numbers. Don't say anything, just stare. Never take your eyes off of them and I promise you they will leave. They have become a creature of intimidation and they don't understand what it means to be intimidated. Verbal threats are our worst enemy. That brings the news media and exposure and that is what they want. Deny them that and we have won half the battle, show up in numbers daily and the battle is won!!!!!

Luckily, I went door to door to warn my neighbors about the street sweeping. 19th ward, boycott the 19th Ward fundraiser. Let Ginger know we are not happy with her in 60655. Everyone put out NRA signs on your lawn. Even if you don't support the NRA make 'em think twice about entering your home or car. 2211 suports us but is constanly being told by their supervisors and above to service other parts of the 22nd district. Help them out, take pictures, write down every detail and contact the media if necessary with your video and photos. If downtown (35th street) needs reason to have cars here, let's show them. Contact the AG school and see if the principal can do anything to stop vandelism and lewd behavior in our park after school. Work with him and respectfully. Call the park disrict and have them post park security at the park when school gets out. They had tem out for the park opening, why not now as well? We all know Ginger will do nothing so go directly to the sources. Call Father Flager and tell him to show up and see why we have racist thoughts.

How come when I write a pro-police post you don't publish it, (e.g. the last open post you had). BTW, how many officers do you think are working the street exactly? Do you or others understand, there is nothing special about 2211's beat. Sorry...to burst your bubble. We have police living on 2212 and 2213's beat as well as every other beat in the district. Everyone thinks you call 911 and a beat car miraculously arrives. Sorry, doesn't work that way and it has nothing to do with the District. Your fight is with the Mayor's lack of hiring and the creation of specialized units that takes officers away from the patrol division. If say you have 2211 and 2211A working and one is on a traffic accident and the other is on an arrest, who do you think is covering your beat? If or when something would occur, another beat has to give up its car to take care of 2211's beat or the dispatcher will hold the call til your beat car comes clear. Oh and then the allege off-duty P.O.'s poke shots at the officers when they see cars having coffee. Well...hate to say it, but those cars or officers having coffee aren't all from 022 and wherever these complainers work, you can bet they have their spots where they enjoy a cup of coffee or lunch. And BTW, our contract is just like other officers. We're allowed to take lunches and personals. How bout the officers who work in an outside unit and take 2hr. lunches in our district. Gee nothing is said about them congregating which is against department orders or how they're cheating the tax payer by taking extended lunches. Why don't you write about your neighbor who is the police, and has no special job, but is connected and has that nice new take home car? Who do you think is paying for that car and gas? Yep, you are. Ya know the guy or gal who drives that nice Crown Vic and takes it on shopping trips or to the gym etc. Or I love when I do get the chance to venture off my beat and patrol 2211 and when you pass a homeowner or someone in the park, they won't give you the time of day. Then you constantly get bashed on this blog. Yep, makes me want to work even harder. Do us a favor and post your occupation or have the readers post theirs so we can tell you how to do your job.

No it's easier to publish ignorant posts that dump on the district officers. What's really funny is as much as the allege off-duty officers hate their beat officers, everyone expects favors and are their best friends when they need something. They love us then when they need a favor.

Garfield Ridge is not much better . The enemy is here too. Some even live on the main streets now and sit out at night like they are in Cabrini Green courtyard. Then when they come here for sporting events, they destroy the parks. It must be nice to be able to come to a safer neighborhood and have a good time. I wonder how we would be received in their neighborhood, who knows but the odds are we would leave via ambulance if we even dared walk one block there. What is frustrating is that we pay our taxes, buy our costly city stickers, pay our tickets (which is why Dept of Revenue is riding around our neighborhood on bikes, we take care of our property and go to work everyday and we get nothing! Minimal police protection, streets that are falling apart, no public high school, overcrowded public grammar school, a lake as a park. How much more are we supposed to take? Nothing beats a cheap day at the beach.
But in a sour economy, some local beaches are cutting back hours and others are not so cheap.

Chicago has reduced its beach swimming hours by 30 percent, citing the cost of lifeguards.

The Chicago Park District will save $700,000 over the summer by trimming hours for the city's 800 or so lifeguards, said Park District spokeswoman Marta Juaniza. Lifeguard times will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. instead of 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Swimmers face fines if they enter the water when lifeguards are not present.

Chicago's approach is unique for a major city and is "manifestly unwise," warned U.S. Lifesaving Association President B. Chris Brewster.

"The reason you've had lifeguards providing services at the time they have is because that's when history shows they're needed," he said. "The failure or absence of lifeguards means potentially death or serious injury. It's a bit unrealistic to expect that laws are going to resolve your public safety problems."

"We did do the research and discovered a lot of people weren't coming to the beach until noon," Juaniza said.

Chicago expects 20 million visitors to its lakefront path and beaches this season, and opened a new beach Friday at 39th Street.

To pay for its increasingly burdened lifeguard staff, Lake Forest will charge a $10 flat fee to non-residents, officials say. It used to be free.

Along with shorter hours and higher fees, area beachgoers face the annual concern over high bacteria levels and closings.

Among the factors that contribute to beach closings are rainy weather, in which water runoff gathers pet waste and bird droppings to feed bacterial colonies in the lake, said U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regional beach program manager Holly Wirick. Other factors include the heavy presence of birds, trash, warmer water and beach shape.

Swim bans due to high bacterial counts have increased in recent years, Wirick said. So has monitoring, which in many cases has increased from once a week to five to seven days a week. But confirmation of dangerous bacterial counts takes 18 to 24 hours, meaning that swim bans are instituted a day too late and often unnecessarily, critics say.

One of the next to use SwimCast will be Chicago. The city this year will collect data to make the system reliable at 63rd Street Beach, Juaniza said. But it will take at least a season of readings before officials start making closures based on the data.

What the f is Mayor Daley thinking???

Cut the beach hours by 30%... how much can lifeguards cost???

And let me be clear here... watch when some teenager dies in the lake. Some slick politically connected attorney will sue saying that had a $9.00 an hour lifeguard been on duty, this child will be alive - The cost will be a few million dollars for every child seriously hurt or drowned!

When are people going to stop taking this bullshit??? Whoever heard of a major city like Chicago not being able to afford lifeguards so kids can enjoy the lakefront and beach in the few months that the beaches are opened!!!!!!

WILL EVERYBODY WAKE UP PLEASE!!!! This f---ing midget stealing c--- sucking asshole Mayor Daley is robbing this city blind while telling everybody we can't afford a beach lifeguard!!!!!

Actually, Chicago Police Commanders are told to give out their blackberry numbers to the community. The last 2 Commanders in my District have given them out at numerous beat meetings over the last few years and told the citizens to call them at any time of day or night.
Don't feel sorry for them. They sold their souls for the gold braid pension and this is part of the deal.

where is there section 8 in 60655?

Why didn't my post get published here? I spent a lot of time and put a lot of thought into it? Why bother posting if you're not going to put it up? I spent 1/2 hour putting together a response which had no racial slurs, no profanity, etc. I thought this was an OPEN post?????

Section 8 is ALL over Mt. Greenwood. 10822 S Whipple to name just one.

Hello, I wanted to address a few of the issues that are happening on the site.

1) posting issues, as this is the age of technology, this site is run through a computer, which sometimes doesn't work right. There have been instances were I actually do not receive some comments and therefore they do not get posted. It is not intentional. Yes, there are some posts that do not get posted because of the obnoxiousness of them or for obvious reasons such as you are using this blog as a place to comment about someone you don't like. You can't say "Joe Blow you lazy idiot." I WILL NOT post negative comments calling people names (not including any public officials as public officials are in a league of their own). If there is a post regarding a recently deceased person or a benefit for someone and someone decides that they don't like that person, well then hell no those negative comments will not make it. That's just wrong.

I will also not post any addresses, phone numbers, email addresses of any third party. If someone wants their own email address or phone number posted fine, but no third party information.

There are fun facts and misc information tidbits that are here because they are part of 60655. Not everything posted on here has to be doom and gloom. If people want to vote on the best shake, so what...it's part of 60655. Should my next poll be whose house should be burned down because it's section 8? (I'm not serious).

The above is just to reiterate what the rules have been since the beginning and will not be changing. Thanks!

Thank you for posting your comment...I was just thinking the same thing about some of the bashing...I clicked on your vacation post and there was alot of words that had nothing to do with the topic.. I wanted to read where the lucky neighbors would be going on vacation. Instead I was reading about "Irishman"

I am a life long south side resident, 43 years old and a city worker. I started at a young age working with my dad in "Black" areas and learned that these F-in savages are a blight on society. I truly wish that these liberal people that come on this blog and chastise and label people as being racist would open their homes and welcome these animals in with open arms. Let these savages date and impregnate thier daughters and pay for all of their useless behavior. Until these drastic measures are taken these Liberal people that live with blinders will never understand normal thinking. These savages contribute nothing to mankind but crime and ghetto breeding.

The neighborhood watch idea is a good one. I remember in the old neighborhood it worked. Everyone had a sign in the window that said, "NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH, WE CALL THE POLICE". Everyone on the block had one in the window and believe it or not the punks would see this and move on, especially when the police would show up repeatedly. This might not be the answer but it's worth a try. Something must be done before this problem gets out of hand.

Maybe our neighborhood needs to have another town hall meeting. Why should we let "others" take over the neighborhood? We need to come together and let the teenagers who cause problems, the passers by who try to burlagrize our elderly in broad daylight, the undesirable neighbors who cause trouble that this neighborhood will call the police and not let it get run down and turn into another Blue Island. The idea of having this type of meeting was also discussed on the Southwest observer site, but due to scheduling conflicts, the meeting did not happen. If Rugai won't hold this type of meeting, then maybe we should ALL plan on attending the CAPS meeting.. with enough concerned neighbors attending, we can get something accomplished...then maybe, just maybe the word would get back to Rugai, and she will finally realize that Mt. Greenwood is as important as Beverly.

Everyone should be attending the CAPS meetings in Mt. Greenwood. The squeaky wheel gets the grease! We won't get beefed up patrol in this neighborhood unless we say something. The less people say, the less patrol we'll get because they'll think everything is status quo and all the cars will be sent over to the other side of the expressway as usual! If you see activity in the alleys at night or something that seems out of the ordinary, or someone who clearly doesn't belong, CALL THE POLICE! You can call in anonymously if you feel the need, as long as you call though! Phone it in as a suspicious person in the alley looking into backyards, or looking into cars. Show the thugs that we aren't going to stand for it! Keep our neighborhood safe!!!

As I have mentioned on here before, Garfield Ridge is no more. It is nice that all of you at least have this blog to communicate. I would do the same over by me, unfortunately I would have to make it in Spanish by the looks of our neighborhood lately. I call the police on issues, however everyone else seems to not think it will help so they don't even bother.

well if you watch and read this about sotomayor , she is a racist? Or maybe you could change my mind? White firemen pass test and black firemen dont? So throw out the test? Tell your kids good luck getting a job if they are not some special race!!!!

Anonymous said...

Whatever happened to we are all created equal? This minority stuff is crap! It disgusts me that they didn't promote because a certain race didn't pass the test! They already get extra points for being a minority and they still can't pass? And that's our fault? Us caucasians are now the minority.....we need to fight back! What next? They already took over and abused social security, welfare, etc.... I'm not racist, just being honest. It sickens me!!!

Sure, let the insult about "this isn't Secondcitycop" go through, but my post doesn't. Why bother posting in an open post if it doesn't get posted.

Just because it is an open post, doesn't mean its open season to say what you want. If you posted a comment today, everything went through. As you are anonynomous it makes it kind of hard for me to find your comment and see if it was indeed lost or just rejected. Re-post your comment. If it doesn't get through then it was probably rejected.

Wake up MGLRC! We want some chain stores here. Yes,the local businesses will *itch, but if you want us to shop Mt Greenwood, bring in stores and businesses we want to shop at. I don't need special sized shoes, bring a a shop with current styles we can afford. I don't need another doctor so stop bringing their offices in. My accordian.....wait don't have one, don't need one. Car shops, my insurance dictates where I go. None of you are the lists. This meeting is useless and just brings in mom and pop shops. If we want to move Mt Greenwood into the current times, add some chain stores and good G*d build Walgreen's already or let someone else take the land and build there. Spring is almost over, you said spring for demolition. Spring of 2010? Did the TIF $ go to Daley aready and we are out of cash??? Build more schools! We need more preschool programs and elementary schools. Move the bus stop off of 111th and Kedzie. It is far too conjested there and unsafe. Is anyone listening to us here? Maybe we can get a Beverly person to speak for us as they are the only ones heard.

Heard the fireman is in the process of trying to evict his tenants on Whipple...any local residants verify this???

The renter has more rights than the landlord. You need to go through the courts to get someone evicted.

I blame Mayor Daley. Because most of us wouldn't even live in this stupid city if it wasn't for residency requirments. I overpaid for my house - I am so close to my neighbors who party way too much - my whole house needs to be updated -if I bought in another suburb i would get more house for my money. I can't get my tree cut down because of the "tree lovers" here -even though its a danger to my house, my neighbors and roots are going into my pipes.

and how much we pay for city stickers???? unbelievable.

there aren't very many affordable "safe" neighborhoods here in the city anymore. Mt. Greenwood is about the only one left. But there is a lot of hill-billy type people who refuse to take care of their lawns, homes etc... The city is out of control!

Walgreens is NOT getting rebuilt. That fell through over a year ago. No Starbucks either. We could do without a Starbucks anyhow. Personally I'd rather see a Dunkin Donuts. Nothing seems to do well here anyways unless it's a bar. I do admit, 111th and Kedzie needs a makeover. Not like the one on 95th and Kedzie. That is useless. The mirror place is now another strip mall. If we get anything nice it'll just bring in outside influence that isn't wanted. I drove out to Orland to go to TGIF's and for a second I thought I was at 79th and Cottage Grove.

If you make your own blog you can post whatever you want. in and around 6065 does not even owe you an explanation as it is their blog-it is nice of them to at least take the time to explain to you though. On another note, does anyone know if there is anything being done to help out Officer DC who was in an accident yesterday and also robbed? I cannot believe someone would rob him after such a horrific accident. Had the poor officer woken up and shot the offenders the media would of said they were just TRYING TO HELP. Help themselves to his stuff that is for sure. As a police wife I am outraged that this is how the citizens thank the officers that come to their aid and put their lives on the line for. Some neighborhoods should not even have police service.

Anonymous said...

Secondcitywife, as a CPD officer in my 18th year,( and the poster of the comment you criticized by the way)my missing post was pretty much exactly what YOU just stated. We don't want this neighborhood turning into THAT. So whether or not this is the secondcitycop blog (which I frequent by the way) it all boils down to what a neighborhood is doing in terms of keeping an open eye and making sure that we're doing everything we can to keep Mt. Greenwood as the last little safe haven for us city workers as we can before it turns into a crime ridden area. It's a shame that people stood by and watched as he had his service weapon robbed and also other personal effects. I'd like to think that if that happened here someone would come to his aid rather than steal from him.

Anonymous said...

You dont have to question that. If that happened here Nobody would of thought to steal from him. We were born and raised to be Savages.

First off, I want to say that I have no affiliation with Second City Cop. I think the blog is great but my name is just that-my name. There is also Second City Sarge etc.

Secondly, I can only comment on what was posted on here by you. I don't know what posts said that were not approved.

However if you are a police officer as you say, I want to thank you for doing the job that most would never consider. I did not mean to criticize your post but I know as a blog owner it can be hard to keep everyone happy. I won't lie and say I was being nice either. I was very irrate this morning thinking of Officer DC.
As to why your post did not go through when it was similar to mine, maybe it never made it. In and around has said sometimes they never get the post to begin with. If you get many at one time, I know I have accidentally deleted some. If you want to hop on over to my blog, I post just about anything anyone writes. Not saying in and around should do the same but I am more tarnished than most police wives and I am frustrated that the job, and the city life is changing before any of us can do anything. Unless we stick together, which I don't think will happen, we may as well invite the undesirables to our block parties.

My apologies, stay safe and again thank you for the job you do.

hey...please give me more info Re: the house on 10819 s. whipple? you people seem to have all the answers. especially putting the name of the owner on the website! what was that going to do? let me know what all of you have planned? maybe having one of your cop friends calling the owner of the house and pretentding that there was a huge ordeal over there? or maybe you can figure out a way to have the house rented. its sad that some of you people on here have nothing better to do than complain about something like this. you all should be ashamed!
