Does anyone know any information about the 22nd district cop that was in a terrible accident on Wednesday, early afternoon around 99th and Halstead. From what I understand, while he was pinned in his car people from that area moved the cop and stole his gun? I also heard that he has terrible injuries along with massive head injuries? I couldn't find any information in the newspapers today. All in all the office and his family has my prayers for a hopefull recovery.

From the southtown today:

An 85-year-old South Side man was ticketed after a crash that critically injured a police officer and sent four others to the hospital.

And authorities are trying to find the person who took the officer's weapon before ambulances arrived at the scene.

A Chicago police officer was critically injured Wednesday morning in a two-car crash involving a police car en route to a burglary.

The crash happened about 11:45 a.m. at 98th and South Halsted streets, police said.

It is believed one of the two burglary suspects took the officer's gun, police said.

Police were reviewing footage from a cell phone and other surveillance cameras to see if any captured an image of someone stealing the gun, authorities said.

The cell phone belongs to a passerby who apparently captured someone rifling through the officer's belongings and taking his 9 mm Beretta from his side as he was pinned in the vehicle, sources said.

Other witnesses also tried to help the 16-year Chicago police veteran -- including someone who climbed into the vehicle to use the injured officer's radio to call for help.

"It's a reminder -- that every day, every hour, these men and women face dangers that average citizens have no comprehension of," police Supt. Jody Weis said. "Their lives could be forever changed in an instant, and this unfortunately is what this officer could be facing. We're hoping for the best, and we're keeping him in our prayers."

An elderly couple and two teenagers, ages 13 and 15, were also injured, according to police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

Fire spokesman Quention Curtis said one elderly person was taken to Christ Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition and the other was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park in serious but stable condition. The teens were taken to Little Company of Mary in good-to-fair condition.

Edward Blackledge, of the 9700 block of South Emerald Avenue, was cited with failure to reduce speed and failure to yield to a vehicle entering an intersection, police said.

Attending a CAPS meeting achieves nothing. The sole purpose of these meetings is to allow people to "vent."

If you have a concern and it's newsworthy, contact the media. Adverse publicity is the only way to get results.

Seems like it's the same dozen little old ladies who come and have the same gripes, albeit good gripes many times, but there's SO much going on that the problems are never really solved, just the illusion that things are getting done. I can't believe that if a large percentage of the community step up and attend the meetings that nothing will get done...

There must be some way to find out the name of the firefighter that owns the Sec 8 house. Let the neighborhood know what a great guy he is!!!

Anonymous said...

I hate to be a rumor starter, BUT- I heard the firefighter who couldn't flip that house on Whipple lives in Beverly and since it's not next door to him, he figured it'd be okay to secion 8 the house out to a family from Englewood. I also talked to someone (an officer on scene) who said the 9 year old living in the house bit a sergeant when they were over there last week trying to sort out the melee. Unreal. Coming to a block near YOU if we don't stick together on this matter.

Right. If you're in a taxpaying neighborhood CAPS doesn't work.
The aldermen really do nothing to fix anything either. With such a backlog of calls, there are seldom if any follow-ups on any complaints. I know in the district I work in, they citizens call the district and ask for the tact. office and then the tact teams handle certain complaints directly, e.g. drug sales calls, gang calls, etc.. That may also be a route to try as well.

Sorry to make my post so serious on such a nice, lighthearted blog, however, I feel VERY strongly about this stuff because I grew up here, I chose to move here as an adult and raise a family here. I want it to stay the way that it was when I was a kid and my parents felt safe letting me run about the neighborhood without fear of gangs, thugs, and violence. When I was a kid, the worst thing I had to worry about in Mt. Greenwood was getting picked on by bullies. Times have changed and they've changed a lot.

Also, a large percentage never shows up at the beat meetings either, so that is a large factor in why things never get done. Also, historically, people who show up to beat meetings show up ONCE. They vent their issue and then once their issue is addressed then they stop coming. If people come out in droves every time, I think more would get accomplished. I'm tellin' ya, when the same dozen people show up, that doesn't even constitute a whole city block. A beat is many many blocks and those people need to show up as well for things to happen.

One sec.8 house in the area is just the start of worse things to come. A more serious problem are the outsiders starting to hang around Mt. Greenwood park. More and more every day and they are "NOT" AG students. They are Eastside transports looking for trouble. They sit in the ballfield dugouts making passionate love just waiting for someone from the neighborhood to say something racial to them. Resist the urge,, they are probably wired or a car near by with a camera or recorder. Once they get the park, they get the neighborhood. What happens next is parents will tell their kids to stay away and this is what the intruders want. Stand firm, frequent the park often. There is power in numbers. Never forget what happened to Marquette Park. This is all we have left folks, lets not give up without a fight. If we lose here, where will are kids go! Don't blame the police for all our problems either, their hands are tied too. A charge of racism against a police officer or any city employee could be the end of a career and a mark that will not be erased. We MUST do this as a community for it to become a success. P.S. Thanks for a great blog site.

Anonymous said...

I know the businesses at the west end of 111th don't put up with any of the crap from the AG school kids. I've noticed they've switched to hanging out at the Marathon Gas Station because of this. And sure enough the police were called to the gas station around 4pm. Of course the kids scattered over to the park. People we need to start being vigilant in our neighborhood. We cannot let them get the best of us.

Regarding the officer on 98th and Halsted-I hope he recovers. The people who did that are not human! Also, I did not know 98th and Halsted could be compared to a Third World Country. Where is the community activist/reverands? Why is it when the officer is hurt there is no public outrage? Maybe the community activist should stop performing for the cameras and start some community classes on the difference b/w an animal and human!

Let's plan a community get together.

I see next Friday(5th) is graduation day over at the AG School. I say we all should bring out our lawn chairs along 111th street. That way we can watch the parade of "Daddies for the Day". They'll be wearing their best east side pimp daddy finery coming out to cheer little Kwame Shasheemee Smith on to gadgeashen. Should rival the Bud Billiken parade.

City Sticker Renewals?
Has anyone else noticed that the City Sticker renewals aren't showing up in the mail?

We've been conversing with a number of Officers and it seems that while in previous years the renewal notices showed up by the middle of May, no one has gotten their mail from the City yet.

Our resident conspiracy theorists speculate this is a deliberate attempt by Daley to have as many cars as possible without city stickers on 30 June so he can unleash hordes of Parking Enforcement Agents (and police inspectors) upon the unsuspecting masses and get an influx of revenue. Our gut says that Shortshanks laid off the person in charge of mailing out the notices.

In the meantime, you can go to this link:

http://www.chicityclerk.com/licenses/online_index.html

and order your stickers online without any additional fees. Have your plate and VIN handy.

It is clear that, yes, a criminal took the officers gun. But it is also clear that other passerbys,(note plural), helped the officer even to the extent of climbing in to the squad to call for help and filming the criminal,(at great risk!) on their cell phone. Why do you always have to look at the bad? What about the good (black),people that helped out? Would it kill you to recognize that?

How many have been shot or killed in 60655 area? NONE. Doesn't that tell you something. I agree, many students do work hard and those that do come from families with parents that care, but sorry to say that is only a small percentage. Look at the statistics. Don't let your liberalism blind you from the truth. None of us like the situation this city is in, but it is a cold hard fact, simply read the newspapers even though they do not cover all the crime, they do cover school violence pretty much. What is sad is that you are upset about someone's comments rather than be upset with what is happening to our neighborhood. Be upset that we have to pay over $8000 a year in HS tuition rather than have a neighborhood school for our children to attend. These are the things that should be upsetting you . I have to say that it is a little disturbing to see a number of kids causing conflict around the neighborhood. I work hard, along with everybody else here, to keep the neighborhood clean and to upkeep our houses. It's extremely frustrating when you see somebody walk down the street and just throw garbage on the ground, give you strange looks, and just not care about their surrounding.

I have to say though, I do appreciate all the work the cops do around here. Yeah...we can probably use a few more around, but I don't want to make it sound like we don't appreciate what they do.

Tonight, it seems like there is an increase in police presence in the neighborhood. Awesome... I hope it continues. While I was driving home, I had a cop behind me on 111th. It made me happy. Tonight, I had my BBQ on, and a cop came to my door just confirming I had something going on back there by the alley.

This is the first time in a long time where I saw cops and just wanted tip my hat and say keep up the great work, as well as the other bloggers here. It's because of you and your posts where I am more informed about what goes on in our neighborhood.

Thank You.

Alas, we go back to the I pay $8000.00 - how many neighborhood kids are turned away - please have names. Yes, I am saddened by the racist comments, because the Ag isn't all ghetto bad. I don't like fear being used to promote racism. I have kids, I pay BIG bucks to the catholics, much more than 8,000 a year (by choice), but I am not going to slam a whole school based on a small percentage.

No I don't want my neighborhood to turn into a ghetto. However, I do realize that it isn't going to stay lilly white.

That fireman that is renting that house section 8 outta get his ass kicked. His buddy that relieves him from his shift at the house should show up at 0800 and make it hard for him to get to his second job. And we as a community need to flood the CAPS meeting whether it is useless or not, and any other avenue we can.

You can stick the nice houses in Roseland and West Pullman right where it came out of. I don't want a ghetto, but sitting here whining about it, throwing racist remarks isn't going to fix it. And when the whole thing blows up, and the press gets involved they will come to this site, to quote the racist asses, and fortunately some of you have made it easy and printed your name.

We need solutions. Beverly held strong through work, not bitching on a blog. Be smart. I still am saddened by the comments, and by the people who are sending kids to my school. Go ask your priest about your comments.

Ok, I posted the names, it doesn't have to be an Irish vs Us thing, first off, Englewood was a German Community, the North end was Irish, there were a lot of Lugans and Poles there as well, so before you get on your high and almighty non Irish horse, us white AMERICANS are to blame. I don't run around saying I am a German Pollack, I run around being proud of being an American. They would only be Irish if they had a brogue and were right off of the boat. Not one of these Mt. Greenwood/Morgan Park wannabees.

Mary Carol said...

Names do not have to be printed. The fact of the matter is that only 25-30% of students admitted can be from Mt. greenwood neighborhood. The remaining 70-75% come from elsewhere. WHY????
By alerting neighbors to goings on in this neighborhood, pushing for CAPS attendance, pushing to flood Rugai's office with calls and letters, pushing for increased police presence, this blog and the contributors are providing a great service.
You can cry racism but it is realism. Many readers/posters are city workers who see this happening everyday in other neighborhoods, many have been displaced from other neighborhoods at some point in their lives.
The fact remains, if we are complacent they will overtake this neighborhood. Those of us who MUST remain in the city will have to live in fear and ghetto like neighborhoods. The only thing I agree with the previous poster is that we all have to work together to stop this. But I think becoming informed from this blog is a great place to start.

Heard this morning that another Chicago Police Officer was shot last night. Lets all bow our heads and pray to God for his speedy recovery and for his family to have strength through this terrible time. Being a police officer in Englewood can be compared to being a soldier in Afganistan or Iraq. These hoodlums know the police have bullet-proof vests on so they shoot at the head. They WANT to kill police. If a police officer shoots a hoodlum/gangbanger, the media treat it like its the worse thing that can happen. The poor, innocent HONOR STUDENT, show his picture in cap and gown like he is the poor victim of police violence. The officer is put under independent review till his actions are justified and the Black Ministers protest the police without even knowing the facts. Where are these mail-order ministers when a cop is shot? Nowhere to be found. Where is Father Phony Pflegher the hippocrit, Jesse Jackson etc. Are they holding hands smiling? They want to take the guns from law abiding citizens, but do you think these drug running gang-bangers are going to give up theirs? HELL NO!!!!Pray for this brave officers speedy recovery and the bum that did this is caught and sent to prison to rot....AMEN.

And no one breaks them up because the police stationed at the school have already gone back to the station for shift change. And the staff at the school can care less what happens in this neighborhood.

Not for what we do, not for having to live in the city without adequate police protection, adequate public education for ALL of the neighborhoods children.
And get your facts straight, even if 90% of the neighborhood 8th graders applied to AG only 30% max will be accepted. Why?????
Again, if you feel this area is too racist for your liberal self, Roseland had plenty of vacant homes ready to move into.

Just watched the channel 7 news for the last 20 minutes and not one mention of the Chicago Police Officer who died in the line of duty, but instead a 5 minute segment on Cease-fire, a BLACK RUN organization. And how gangs should stop shooting gangs. Why wasn't the POLICE OFFICERS DEATH THE TOP STORY? The French jet crashing is more important to the people of Chicago? NO. A POLICE OFFICERS death is trivial to the Liberal news media. What is wrong with this picture, any moron can figure it out, these LIBs all hate cops. I hope gangs never stop killing each other, that is the only way society will be rid of them. the LIBS will never allow the police to do it. A cop responds to a call of "shots fired" and responds to 'serve and protect" the citizens and dies in the process and our local news media can't even give him the respect of top story. What have we become to allow this to happen. May GOD have mercy on his soul and when he is sitting at the right hand of GOD in heaven, and the S.O.B. that shot him arrives, he pulls out his NIGHT-STICK and sends him STRAIGHT TO HELL.

Nope, not moving to Roseland, but can't stay on, gotta go have a BBQ with all my black friends, since I am a liberal I LOVE the gangbanger type, it is fun to see my victims, I mean neighbors, stuck in jobs that have better pay and benefits than their counterparts in the burbs, have something new to roast on this site. It must suck to be so miserable that your mind rots.

Mt. Greenwood won't turn into another Cal City. It is the last place that city workers who live on the south side can go that is halfway decent. We have our problems here, but it's not going to go. 20 years ago this sort of matter could have been handled, but now it's called a "hate crime" and everyone is afraid to do or say anything. So now we have negroes coming into the neighborhood and robbing kids walking home from the library and robbing people near the Ag School where they are shipped in for school. It's the last strong hold on the south side. I'm not happy about what's been going on, but stick together. It's ours for the protecting and by gosh, let's protect it!

Not so. The new house on spaulding was on the market at over $450,000 and did not sell. That new house is right next door to the section 8 house so no wonder it didn't sell. I know because I live on the block.

Mary Carol said...

OK Ms Lib, think what you will the rest of us will continue to try and keep this neighborhood nice. As for the section 8 on Spaulding. I took a drive by there and you can easily pick out the house. I am sorry for you. I hope the Sec 8 status ends soon. Shame on those who do this to the neighborhood!!
To the family and friends of Officer Valadez, Rest in peace and may God Bless you!

You know what's gonna suck Pinhead? When your black best friend jacks you up for whatever cash you have in your pocket to go get some more crack. We're not talking about the Cosby show type decent people here. These are the same kind of trash that killed that policeman last night and took the gun right off the injured officer that crashed the other day. Good luck with those new friends bonehead. You'll most likely get a life lesson soon, hope you survive. You bleeding heart do-gooders are completely out of touch with the real world.

Call 911 any time you see these thugs roaming the area. Call in suspicious person and give a discription of the thugs. Your call gives the police the rights to check them out without them crying racist.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully they will move out soon. They are moving in all the houses that the firemen can't sell.

Anonymous said...

There must be a numbet for section 8 to lodge complaints? I feel sorry for the neighbors.

If you see any of these thugs roaming the streets, call 911. They shouldn't be in the neighborhoods. Also learned that the policewoman from the AG school rounded up 3 girls roaming the neighborhood during the school day. No need to say what "nationality" they were. Good eye to whoever called it in.

On Friday night there was a vehicle along w/ 4 male blacks that parked on 110th and Springfield and began walking the neighborhood. An ODPO spotted them and called it in. A detective from the area spotted and grabbed one of them who had made it to 109th and Pulaski. In his waistband was a BB Gun that had the same look and feel as a real one. These 4 from Olympia Fields and 167th and Aberdeen were out looking to score in "Candyland." Candyland is the term that several officers and detectives have heard from these mutts when referring to the 60655. The reason being it is easy pickens and everybody has money and goods. Watch your families and watch these mutts even closer. Call 911 and protect your families and property at all costs!!! Thank you detectives for doing a little homeland security during your busy tour.

Anonymous said...

Neighbors, Keep calling any suspicious characters. If we do this enough, maybe the thugs will move on to another neighborhood.

Come on now folk's, when are we going to put a stop of this black on white crime. The media does not care, the liberal's do not care, and the pollitically correct government does not care. Here in Chicago we are easy pickens for these savages. These mutts know that most of us are law abiding hard working people. They know that there are no patrols in our neighborhoods and they know the chances of getting caught are slim. These mutts come up from the east and invade our homes, we are there for the taking ....... and take they do!! Our families and the older folks are at risk. These savages simply have nothing to loose and they dont care.

Please give me your thoughts, all the good, bad and ugly.

Anonymous said...

These mutts have to know one thing: A LOT of police officers live in this neighborhood and let them take the crap shoot if they want, because if they come in my house I'm not afraid to do what I was trained to do with my gun. I will not be a victim in my own home.

Did anyone hear any more details on this? First I've heard.....

Chicago police have issued a community alert after a man in a car attempted to abduct a 17-year-old girl in the Far South Side's Mount Greenwood neighborhood over the weekend.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, the girl was riding her bike in the 3800 block of West 101st Street when a man driving a red car offered her a ride, according to police.

The girl continued peddling until the man cut her off with his car and grabbed her. The girl fought with him until he released her and fled from the area.

The man is described as a white male, about 30 years old, 5-foot-11 and between 180 to 200 pounds, wearing a t-shirt, blue jeans and gym shoes. He was driving a red 4-door, small vehicle.

If anyone has information concerning this incident, they are asked to call Calumet Area detectives, (312)747-8271.

Mr. Fogarty, you are right on the mark. I have worked the Black areas for the last 30-plus years. In the middle to late 70's it didn't seem all that bad. People would greet each other with respect and go their merry way. No stickem' up, or Honkey. No fear to go to work, then the mid-80's and everything changes. Threats, fires, lots of fires, hate, death, murders. No, the white people were not targets, the blacks were targeting their own and the hate spread to the white community. The tax payer is loved, who else will pay for their health care, food, cells phones, cable tv, cadillacs with the $300.00 a piece spinning hub-caps,gold teeth, gold chains, drugs, wine, beer, booze, illegitimate babies with 10 daddys. And you wonder why the country is broke! And if you listen to radio, these so called black ministers say" If the Illinois Government cuts these programs, cities will burn and there will be riots". Now you know why these politicians want your guns. The working man can put a end to all this in about a week and the chicken-s**t polls know it. Integration never worked, it has been tried and tried again. The Blacks don't want to live with us, they just want to take what we have so they can destroy it. ST. SABINA, ST.LEO, ST.DENIS, ST.THOMAS MOORE, ST.BEDE'S, ST. MARYS, ETC. Perfectly beautiful neighborhoods, well kept, well patrolled, now look at them, after only a couple of years,SHAMBLES, RAT INFESTED GHETTOS. Why? Think about it and you will find the answer. Turn off the liberal news media, listen to TALK RADIO, you will find the answer. MAY GOD BLESS THE BRAVE POLICE OFFICER AND GOD BLESS US ALL....

I always thought that there was a two week grace period and they didn't start ticketing until 12:01 July 15. Does anyone know for sure?

inandaround60655 said...

I looked it up. City stickers need to be displayed by July 15 in accordance with the Wheel Tax ordinance, blah blah, in order to avoid tickets and fines. HOWEVER, for you city workers, the inspectors will be looking for the stickers starting July 1.

Also, for those out there that have residential permit parking, you will no longer need a separate window placard. The permit will be imprinted on your sticker.

Here is the June 1, 2009 press release from the City Clerk - find and print the release and save it just in case you get a ticket...sure way to fight it right?

Chicago, III. (June 1, 2009) - City Clerk Miguel del Valle announced today that vehicle stickers are now available to purchase in person at City Hall, City Clerk Satellite Offices, Department of Revenue Substations, and on select days at Aldermanic offices. In addition, more than 300 community vendors including Dominick's grocery stores, currency exchanges and select banks are participating in this year's vehicle sticker sales.

The 2008 - 2009 vehicle sticker expires on June 30, 2009. City Clerk del Valle provides a 15 day grace period before vehicle sticker enforcement begins on July 16, 2009.

"While buying your vehicle sticker online is the fastest and easiest way to purchase your sticker, I am proud to partner with more than 300 community vendors and all Alderman to make vehicle sticker purchasing as convenient as possible for all residents," said Clerk del Valle.

This year's Dog Friendly Chicago-themed sticker features several new updates and security enhancements. Residents who live in residential parking zones will find their zone number now printed on their annual vehicle sticker, eliminating the need for a second sticker.

As an added security measure, license plate information is now included on the stickers. Residents must know their vehicle license plate number when purchasing their sticker. Additional security features include new barcode technology and reflective particles in the sticker.

Residents are encouraged to avoid lines and purchase their vehicle sticker online at www.ChiCityClerk.com. Using new printing and mailing technology, people who purchase their vehicle sticker online will receive them faster than ever before. There is no additional charge to purchase your sticker online. Vehicle sticker prices remained unchanged from last year.

I know this doesn't affect everyone but it does affect a few of us. My kid goes to a private school in Oak Lawn. However, he attends speech therapy at Mount Greenwood School. This is a program that I am entitled to as a resident and taxpayer living in the city of Chicago. Now I've been informed that next fall, the city is not going to allow non-CPS students to get such vital services.

WTF?!!! So I'm getting double screwed now? I pay taxes so that pieces of crap who don't care about education can attend CPS schools. At the same time, I'm paying out of pocket to send my kid to a private school becaus CPS schools are terrible. Now, the city is going to take away what little benefit I receive in exchange for my high taxes?

There is going to be hell to pay. I encourage everyone in the same situation to call the Alderman, that scumbag the mayor, and everyone else to demand satisfaction. Don't be fooled either. This style of government is going all the way up to the Federal government. Good tax paying citizens that don't speak their minds are getting hammered by liberal thieves.

I'm not an anarchist but this nation is heading down a Marxist road. It will cause states to want to secede from the Union. Citizens may take up arms against their aggressors (government or not). Don't think it can't happen here.

QUIT YOUR WHINING.

Move to Oak Lawn if you're paying for a private school there. Then your taxes will go the school in that area.

I heard the person who helped was a retired police officer, not just an average citizen.

Are you kidding me? Why wouldn't we focus on the bad and have it on the news for people to be aware there are shitheads out there that will stoop so low as to steal an officers gun after he was obviously so injured that he couldn't defend himself? Color doesn't matter....it happened and the primary focus should be on the perp. The real heroes or good samiratins wouldn't want the focus on them if that's truly what they are. Nippsy - Once again you can not make a point without referring to all black people as crack heads. Get out a little more, read the paper, get an education and then maybe you will realize that there are plenty of educated middle class black families that exist. It is not about color it is about ECONONOMICS! You don't live next to or socialize with people that are significantly poorer or less educated than yourself no matter what color they are. That is why I will never find myself "jacked up by a crazy, black, crack head" just as I will never find myself being chased by a "drunk, ignorant, crow bar carrying, tank top wearing, white, hillbilly", but thanks for the nice wishes anyways! P.S. drop the crow bar.
