111th and Kedzie Project

Thanks to the commentors who sent the link regarding the 111th Street Walgreens project that has been 12 years in the making. I'm posting the link to the article because it is copyrighted and very lengthy.

I'm confused - I thought they already bought up private property. So, basically this may NEVER happen! It's a shame, Evergreen Parks new construction came up over night and we are just stuck looking at weeds and rocks.

Our community has such potential!

the funny thing is that there area has been a TIF for years!!!!! So why do they state that they are creating a TIF?

The private land that needs to be bought is owned by the MT GREENWOOD DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. They are the ones who have bought the land along 11th street along with a few of the house north and south of it/ They are partially to blame for the years of vacant land along 111th. They are the ones who bought these buildings and forced exsisting businesses out so they can tear down the buildings in hope of selling the land for a fast profit to the developers. But it never happened.

Wondering why the 7/11 and the Walgreens is exempt from having to erect an iron fence while every other business around there has to.

You might want to know who is in the Mt Greenwood development Corp....... Could, possibly, they be connected to the 19th Ward? I wonder.....

Don't hold your breath.

The Mt. Greenwood Development Corp has had plenty of documented differences with the Rugai office. They can hardly be connected anymore.

start a garden,or better yet use the land to park the trucks that will be used in 2016,hired truck races.

The delay in this project had/has NOTHING to do with Ginger she has pushed through every bit of anything needed for this project.. the delay falls squarely in the laps of the MGLRC and the developer Terraco.. please put the blame where the blame lies.

106th--107th and Western is in Beverly and has been vacant for years. God bless the two firemen who lost their lives there. Why hasn't this property been developed. I'm sure it's because no restaurant can build there without a liquor license because it's a dry precinct.
But come on, put something there.....at least you guys have something at 111th and Kedzie. This eyeore on Western is crazy!!

The delay at 111th and Kedzie is not the fault of either Ginger or the MGLRC. It is directly the fault of the developer and walgreens. Both of whom are just trying to get a better deal.

Find another developer and invite CVS in. You will be shocked as to how fast things move then.

Where does one apply for the paid position on MGLRC? It is the the LRCs job to work in the best interest of the community? The delays should be worked out with the developer and Walgreen's much quicker. Bad management and an LRC that would rather have empty lots and ghetto corners than get off their buts and actually do thier job. Ginger. please push for a new LRC board.Get someone qualified to broker deals in a timely manner. We are not happy.

Male black crawls through window, surprises elderly victim, goes through her purse and takes some money and her home/car keys when grandaughter interupts he runs out the back door. Please folks, do not let your guard down, watch your doors and keep an eye out.

I'm a retiree that lives out of state now. I drove down Western Ave this past weekend and it looks like absolute hell. There are so many empty lots around and I too can't believe they haven't done anything with the lots where the firemen died in the fire. Even if they can't sell right now, couldn't the property owners put in a garden or dog park for now? 115th and Western STILL has the deserted corner! You folks are paying some of the highest taxes in the city (block by block) and are not getting near your dollar amounts back. It was good to be back but sad to see not alot of progress.
