Baseball in Chicago

We have our favorites. MOST southsiders love the Sox, a few southsiders love the Cubs, along with the northside transplants. But when did America's favorite past-time get so expensive. You can't take a family to a game anymore and not spend a couple of hundred bucks easy. I think it may be cheaper to take a vacation somewhere. Who actually watches the games anyway?

I was looking on line and here is the wallet saving alternative for a night (or day) of baseball.

The Thunderbolts, they are closer to home being located in Crestwood, tickets are $9, and the food and drinks are CHEAP. They have special promotions and events and you can have fundraisers and parties there too.

I actually live in Crestwood. Alot of residents go see the Thunderbolts. Not only are they reasonably priced, from what I understand, they have kid activities that you just don't see at the big league parks. Plus they have $1 BEER THURSDAYS.

I know people who have done the kids b-day party package there and LOVED it.

Be careful what you ask for... Was at a T-bolts game earlier in the season... Now in all fairness, I am not sure if it was invite the gang banger night or if this was status quo at this place... In the section I was in (off right field not too far up) men, women and children of the AA society were taking in the game... no problem early on (aside from louder than usual banter and rude acts)I noticed throughout the game a bottle that read "red pop" being passed around from patron to patron. Problem was the liquid was clear, not red. I switched places with my sons so I could bear the brunt and I immediately got the target... I became a target of their jokes, innuendos, and sarcasm. By the 5th inning, I had had enough. So I went to security to report thse thugs who were now swearing, spilling, littering and not even paying attention to the game! SECURITY WAS THE ONE WHO LET THEM IN!!! The head security guard knew the head aggressor almost intimately... enough was enough... I grabbed my kids and walked past the half hug affair between thug and "security" As I passed I simply said "you should have some pride in your job sir... good people are trying to see a game with their family ... " and before I could finish, security called for backup, apparently also friends of the original thugs, and I was accussed of not voting for Obama... Several kept repeating "what ya goona do? what ya gonna do when a republican come to you" I was scared. Finally, a different security ran up the ramp and yelled PO PO FO REAL... DUMP YO SHIT DROP THOSE POP SICLES NOW!! I dont know what it meant but they all fled and left my sons and I to peacefully make it back to the parking lot and GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!!! Any one have similar? I know last season there was a pretty nasty gang brawl in the bleachers over non sense... anyone with that story PLEASE inform us

Odd story! Never heard of such a thing happen there. I go to games all of the time there and I have never had a problem. My family has always felt safe there!

Unfortunately Brian, we all have problems with "eastsiders". Next time, call 911. From what I've seen, Crestwood doesn't mind being accused of racial profiling.

Really Baseball is as affordable as you want to make it ... The White Sox have the best deals going for Families if you want to go ... Monday night games are half price night ... so that puts bleacher, and upper deck ticket prices just slightly more that the Bolts ... On designated Sunday's kids days you can buy a full price ticket for yourself and the kids tickets are just $1.00, if you get there when the gates open, the kids can get in line to grab a picture and autograph with their favorite player, and then run the bases after the game. One hour before game time ball park franks hot dogs are just a dollar. When I go with my son we have a spending limit $20.00 TOTAL. That means no beers for me but so what I am there to spend time with him and watch baseball. We bring peanuts from Dominick's $1.50, the one with the Sox Logo ... of course and we bring two sealed bottles of water (per person), usually frozen to start ... if the seal is broken security will not let them in. You can bring sandwiches from home or Subway is a big hit ... No cans though. And unlike the baseball bar on the North Side, the Sox have cracked down on goofballs. The new program is Rise Above ... "If you can't say it in front of a six year old, don't say it." Profanity is a big no no and I have seen people ejected for continued use of the "F" bomb. I have been to about twenty games this year and have had a blast ...

Brian-

I forgot to mention earlier. If you want to have some fun. Next time you are confronted by a black man, woman, or kid about not voting for obama, or having some conservative (republican) values. Simply ask them who the first republican president of this country was. PRICELESS.

Have a nice weekend all.

If you do go to these games (this can happen anywhere) USE CASH!!!!! My sister-in-laws c.c. number was stolen after she made some purchases at the game.
