This is your chance to address teen drinking in the park, fights, teen drinking behind the Ag School lot, BBQ-ing, speeding on 103rd, beat integrity...........in a pro-active way.

I hope more than the usual 6 people show, besides 'ginger's rep' and the officers.

6 Policemen conducted the meeting last night, and maybe 15 to 20 residents in attendance. CPD is offering a program for in home “Burglary Prevention” education to homeowners. Sounds like a good idea, but a gun is more dependable. The Sergeant went through the 22nd District crime statistics, and the crimes that have been reported are down slightly. There has been a new Beat #2211-A added to this district.

Another Officer talked about an incident involving the career criminal that beat the Rusch boy half to death at one of the local parks a few years ago; Offender was originally sentenced to 7 years, has been released from prison, and already arrested for 2 more savage beatings in Beverly using a pipe. Nothing will happen to this monster until he finally kills some innocent victim. My opinion of this is that I hope one of two things happens to this savage. He either jumps someone smart enough to be carrying a gun and gets what’s coming to him, or his next victim is the person, or someone near and dear to the person responsible for releasing this piece of shit from jail.

One woman talked about kids drinking behind the Ag school, no mention of vandalism or property damage, so that just looks like kids are doing what kids do, have always done, and will always do. No mention at all about BBQ’s, public drinking, goings on in the park or any of the other common complaints many people seem to be whining about. If residents don’t have the time or interest to go to these meetings and voice their concerns, how could they ever expect to make a difference or get more police protection? Complaining on a blog isn’t going to help. Remember, “The squeaky wheel gets the oil.”

When I asked what can be done, if anything, to get additional police protection in our neighborhood, the response was pretty much what most of us already know, and what I expected. The CPD is short manpower, and the city is not hiring new recruits fast enough to keep up with attrition. As far as leaving Mt Greenwood unprotected, the Police in this city have to go where they are sent, this is NOT the fault of the Police Department or our Policemen. Some are quick to criticize our Police Officers and seldom miss the chance to bash them whenever the opportunity arises. To those that do this, try to keep in mind that most of these people are our friends, family members and neighbors who live here too. They are just as concerned about the safety of this neighborhood as any of us are, if not more. Who knows better than the Police what kind of hideous shit goes on in this city, that we never even hear about?

The bottom line here, is the fact that the only people that can change any of this is our elected officials. So if you really want to make a difference, contact them and voice your concerns. They are in these positions because we put them there, and they are obligated to represent us. It’s my personal opinion that our Police Officers do a thankless job, and considering their limited resources, are doing pretty damn good.

Until something changes, I’d recommend that we all be extra vigilant of our surroundings, watch out for one another, and arm yourselves.

Next CAPS Meeting on September 17th at 7:00 PM in the Mt Greenwood Park fieldhouse.

in & around very important

thats the third reference to arming people in your post, Jim. Let me remind you... a private citizen (you and most other readers on this blog) are, under penalty of law, not... let me repeat that... NOT allowed to own, carry, or transport a firearm within the city limits of Chicago. Illinois has no conceal carry laws. I suggest you stop encouraging unlawful behaviors. This is not marshall law. We have laws and are obligated to follow those laws. As a police officer in MTG, I am obligated to enforce these laws. I have zero discretion when it comes to someone carrying a gun in the park.. I WILL ARREST YOU! Let me remind all of our readers that carrying a gun is an arrestable offense. Carrying a gun upon a public way (sidewalk, street, PARK) is a felony... You will be arrested, you will be charged with a felony, and you will be sent to 26th/California with no bond! So, JIM, next time before you decide to post nonsense encouraging others to break the law, PLEASE inform the readers of the possible consequences of their actions! So PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THESE MATTERS INTO YOUR OWN HANDS AS JIM MCMAHON HAS SUGGESTED! Following his lead will get you arrested...

Thanks for the update Jim. I agree with your comment about letting the police know our concerns. It isn't enough to complian on a blog or to our neighbors. And thank you for your support of the CPD. We can use all the support we can get.

Thanks Jim, but just one correction. Earlier this week vandals destroyed the irrigation system at the ag school. Nozzles broken off and hoses were sliced and cut to the tune of over $6000. That's the second time this year. There was also extensive damage to the corn fields this past week, I'm not sure how much in dollars. They will fix the irrigation system - again. And as a taxpayer, I will pay for it AGAIN. The school did make a police report.

I remember a few years ago some Marist kids damaged the school soccer field sprinklers for a prank. The school put up a reward for info, the culprits were found out and the parents had to pay. Now, THAT'S the way to do things.

When I play softball in the evenings I see tons of teenagers heading to the ag school field carrying cases of beer. I saw a squad in the park parking lot and I told him. He said "I aint goin back there." Now I'm sorry I didn't get his name.

Frankly, if you ARE a PO, go sell your crap elsewhere! Go to your blog SecondCityCop and add your comments to all the other posts about how PO's should do NOTHING! And read the TENS OF THOUSANDS of posts from the PO's who openly encourage the other dog cops to do nothing.

Then you can read the posts here by the PO who says he'll sit and sip his free coffee and allow our children to be slaughtered while he waits for SWAT.

There are many good CPD PO's who want to do their job. And they are harassed by the moron dogs that permeate their ranks. I am guessing YOU are one of them.

Face it. CPD protects NOBODY. You know, we know it, and people like McMahon know it. You won't keep me, my spouse, or my children safe.

I am VERY familiar with the lack of training and leadership in the CPD. By comparison I am a decorated former Army officer with proficiency on weapons sytems you could only dream about. And I know I am not alone out there.

Some of the sheep will blindly follow idiots like you. And they will suffer. As for me, God help the savage if it tries to rob or attack me or my family.

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Thanks PO for your post. This is not the wild west. You carry the gun, I'll carry the cell phone. Keep up the good work.

Don't you just love the Daley machine just stompin' all over our 2nd amendment rights. I was under the impression that federal rights could not be taking away by local governments. I guess unless you happen to be the almighty "King Richie". Daley is now calling the gangbangers "Urban Terrorists". Well now if he really believes that's what they are, don't we have the right to keep a fire arm in our own homes to protect ourselves from "terrorists"? I'm sure old Richie is not in violation of his own firearm ban, would he? Just in case the "terrorists get past the coppers parked out in front of his houes 24 - 7.

sorry Jim, but MTG PO has a very valid point... we do not need anarchy and marshall law! People already think we are hill billies, lets not give them more gas for the fire!

Either you want to address these teen behaviors, drinking, vandalizing.... as a community or you don't.

Its not OK to 'let teens be teens'. Don't allow this. Call the police and report it. It can become a 2211 priority if enough of you care enough to call. If one of these kids gets killed driving after drinking behind the Ag School, or from binging, we've all failed.

Shotguns can be registred and owned by city of chicago residents, so can rifles. Handguns aren't allowed per the city ordinance. If you do own a handgun and it is found in your home by the police you would get charged with a city ordinance violation and released at the station, as long as that was the ONLY violation. If you're picked up on the PUBLIC WAY with ANY firearm you would then be in for a bit of a longer stay.
In Jim's defense, I didn't see anything in his post stating to go out in public armed with a firearm.

I would rather have a gun and not need it, than need it and not have it. That's my take on it.

Please dont risk loosing everything with a gun arrest in a public park, or on a city street.

Illinois must become a right to carry a concealed weapon state.

Start with the state legislature.

While I am not so sure where I stand on the handgun issue to carry, bear or own... I must say I like the way people are addressing the issue, not the people. Kudos

STFU You ignorant P.O.S. you are obviously NOT a Police Officer! Phony!

Had you been a P/O you would have known that it is perfectly LEGAL for any law abiding citizens in Chicago to keep "long guns" (rifle/shotgun) in their home. Tool!

Anonymous said...

FYI, it is perfectly legal to own a handgun, the problem is that you can not register it in the city of chicago (thanx king richie). You can have a gun in your home, as long as you have an FOID card, which you would need to purchase any gun. If for some reason the police were to arrest you, inside your own home, they will charge you with Failure to Register, and they will take your gun. You can get an application on-line at the IL State Police website.
