Well I just found out about the poor little girl on homan!!! I find this to be a disgrace to any police officer, 45 minutes for a car to respond??????If I was a police officer and had any pride in my job, I would be extremely upset!! I know the police officer say on here that they can't help it , that its their bosses??Well I say BS!! Show some pride and maybe step up!! Talk to your supervisors!! Protect or community from this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Football practice is taking place in Mt. Greenwood park. Out of all the little football players on the Colts I think I saw maybe 10 to 15 white kids, the rest are black and when they practice they bring their Mamas and sisters and brothers to watch to make sure no honkey messes with them. This my friends is the problem, the Colts were organized for the neighborhood kids not the entire city. I propose this be the last year for the Colts in Mt. Greenwood Park. Move the team to a east-side park since thats where the majority of the players are from. Maybe the 60655 blogger can put this up for a vote. I am not saying this to be mean or not have a team for our kids, but when the original purpose of this team has lost is purpose and the draw is to bring none neighborhood kids and their criminal ilk into the park then it is time to stop. This one jerk from the east-side was wearing his pants down below his butt, you could see the sh*t stains on his underwear and a cocky little b**tard. Is this what we want in the park for our kids to see because of a lost cause football team..HELL NO, THEY HAVE TO GO!!!!!

I am far from being a liberal but some of the comments regarding the park are just stupid. If someone see something illegal call the police and tell the dispatcher you want to make a report, if no car arrives in a timely manner 10-15 mins for a non emergency call back and ask for a supervisor. If you live across from the park and everynight there is a problem videotape this behavior and send it to the police/alderman/beverly review/youtube it will get a response. I am up at the park 3-5 afternoons a week yes their are more minorities than years ago but most are there watching their son or daughter play football/cheerlead, in my experiance this parental involvment is a good thing. The kids whos parents are involved and care enough to sign them up for sports and to go to practice are not the kids who are out raping robbing and stealing. It's not the 60's segragation does not work enjoy the park and call 911 multiple times if you have too if you see an illegal act, but dont spread malicious lies. Get involved and try to make things better dont stand on the sideline and whine about how bad something is you just sound like a child who hasnt gotten their way.

What happened on Homan?

Anonymous said...

Why is it that they can send their kids wherever they want and we have to stay in district and cant even get our kids in neighborhood schools.
And since when is bar b q'ing allowed in a city playground. Shouldnt the rules apply to everyone?

Anonymous said...

The problem is not with the police officers in the cars. It is with the OEMC (911 center). The OEMC sits on the calls before dispatching them to the cars.

In the 1940's when my parents moved into Mt. Greenwood my grandfather said not to move there because the neighborhood wouldn't last. In the 1960's when they wanted to build the fieldhouse people said don't because it will bring the undesirables. In the
1970's when some people wanted a swimming pool the cry was don't because the neighborhood will change. Why should we always be afraid to have nice things in our area? So many people complain that we never get anything and that it all goes to the east side, but when we finally get something nice they don't want it for fear tht it will attract people that they don't feel belong here. We have to keep working at getting everything that we can for our neighborhood and remember "Use It or Lose It"

The 7-11 at 111th and Kedzie sold me a propane tank with about a half hours worth of propane. This is not the first time they have done something shady. I suggest you do not go there.

An overwhelming percentage of the Mt Greenwood colts are kids from the 60655 area and are white. Quit being a fearmongering racist and get a life. Ignorant statements are what hurts the reputation of this community.

Drunken softball players drinking in the park (illegally) are a much bigger problem than 7-14 year olds playing football and cheerleading.

Yeah because at your job if you have one the workers tell the supervisors what to do all the time. If the dispatcher doesnt give a call out over the air for 40mins because no car is available no one knows what is happening. call the district to complain Commanders ofc# is 312 745 0710. The TACT Boss is Lt. RYAN from the neighborhood but a stroke who keeps all tact cars on the east side his office # 312 745 0373. Call the aldermans office and ask about police service be prepared to be lied to Ald Rugai #773 238 8766.

yeah it would be nice to get some police service but until the alderman and police bosses feel the pressure they will keep sending the Mt greenwood cars east to handle the overwhelming calls for service there. keep your eyes open be aware of your surrondings and what is going on around you and call 911 whenever you see something the police only come when called out here sorry its not right but thats just how it is right now. Oh yeah keep voting for Rugai and Daley they are doing a wonderful job.

Anonymous said...

There is no 10-15 minute response in 22!!Maybe if you leave on the eastside where I work you would get a minute to 3 minute response like I see everday over there!!!! I mean come on? What the hell do we have to do? We goto caps meeting, we call the aldercreatures?? Not a thing works?? I think maybe some news media needs to get involved??? Seems like that all that works in chicago?? CALL THE MEDIA!!!!! WE NEED PROTECTION!!!!!!!!!!!

To 9:57 a.m.-

You seemed to forget one key point in your criticism. You mentioned that you are at the park at least 3 afternoons a week. I go up there with my daughter quite a bit. In the afternoon as well. The key word is AFTERNOON. I think most of the comments are directed towards the park at night. As far as your comment on calling the police repeatedly. I'm guessing you really don't read all the comments

I keep reading on this blog that you want the AG school to become a neighborhood school. Only grammer schools in the city of Chicago have neighborhood schools. High schools are district schools. So if the AG schools were to become a district school the boundries would be the same as Morgan Park High School and the racial composition would be the same. Since only about 150 students enter in freshman year and about 1000 apply your chance of getting them in is better the way it is now because of the percentage of Mt. Greenwood students that qualify for the quota system. First siblings then neighborhood than minorities and then open enrollment.

August 13, 2009 11:14 AM

We don't sit on calls, we have no cars available to dispatch to calls. Trust me, alot of us live in Mt. Greenwood and would love to give priority to the neighborhood's calls for service, however, unfortunately the east side is like a bunch of wild animals on the loose and most of the cars are always over there. We do the best that we can with what we have to work with each and every day.

I want to thank the lovely kids who just stole my sons bike from 7-11 at 2:05 today... Your parents must be SOOOO proud.

Anonymous said...

In the real world - shootings, armed robbery, other violent crimes, and B&E with perp still inside the house take a priority over urinating on slides or kids hanging out.

The 911 center has a priority list and while you may think something is the end of the world.. in the larger scheem it isn't the big of a deal.

Chicago, nor most big cities have enough police to sit around and wait for something to happen in low crime areas. They can barely staff areas of the city where crime is rampant - let alone areas that have a low incidence of violent crime.

lets not only watch intruders in the neighborhood, lets watch those among us who affect our childrens lives[teachers and coachs. I think St. Chris was lucky to get the 2 guys they got to run football. Lets make sure sports continues to improve. No more coachs ( you know who u are) trying to push their own agenda of having their kids be the star. There are those who say if you dont like it coach. Its hard to coach when you cant get the job becuase some of the worst coachs have relatives on the st. chris board!!!!!

If you want to do something that will get the alderman and mayors attention. Run a petition in the 19th ward and get a few thousand signatures on a NO CONFIDENCE vote on both of them. Show them that as taxpayers we are aware that we are not being properly represented with enough police protection and other city services and hold them 100% accountable. That will get their attention, and the medias too. I don't know how to go about starting one of these or what the legalities are, but someone in this neighborhood should. I know the police just had one on j-fed and got several thousand signatures from the police alone.

I would just like to compliment the hard working, caring person who maintains this blog. God bless you and your efforts.

It is heartening to see people discussing ways to keep this neighborhood enjoyable and vibrant.

Its my understanding the in the 10 sector of the 008th district a meeting was setup were a couple hundred citizens showed up to complain to the commander. I really think something like this needs to happen here, whether its a beat meeting or a scheduled gathering. The cmdr of 008 now has beats 811/812 only assigned to their beats, can not leave to other beats jobs, and also has a rapid car assigned also.

Its time to organize something like this if we want police over here.

Regarding comments about "coaches" at St. Chris and Q of M...these coaches put in A LOT of their time and thanks to all coaches who coach. It's a thankless job. NO THANKS to coaches who just get involved so their kids can play more!! I've seen it at both schools and don't get me started on CCD kids playing. Why don't they go play at their public schools sport activities? I've paid a lot of tuition and sport fees for my kids and then you see all the CCD Cardnials and Raiders, it's a joke! There's politics at all schools and I've seen it all in the last 18 years of grade school sports, parent's coaching to make sure their kid & friends kids play, don't get me wrong NOT all coaches think this way from what I've seen most do. Maybe parent's should not coach then ALL the players would have an equal opportunity at tryouts. Just wait till high school, you play if you have talent, not if your mom or dad coach. Good luck to all of you in grade school sports this fall, it does get better in high school.

"Pillow biter?" Really? Grow up!

And people are supposed to believe that Mt. Greenwood isn't racist and intolerant? The euphimisms on this blog are getting more offensive every day.

So when you called Ginger did you voice your concern in a civil manner or did you sound like the raving jerk you do in you post

Despite the efforts of the blog owner to make this blog a service to the neighborhood - it seems as if this blog is going to be like many others that have come and gone in this neighborhood - full of hate, mis-information, lies and more.

It seemd as if rarely do people in this neighborhood get together to do anything but whine and complain. They would rather listen to the pot-stirrers and jump on the bandwagon of hate then lift a finger to do anything. So, while they bitch and moan and threaten the world in reality their words accomplish nothing.

Perhaps Macbeth said it best.. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing

There is truth in this statement. When I am posting, there are some comments that I hmm and haw over because the language and racial slurs are a little over the top. There is a way to express your opinions without the colorful name calling. If you want your comment to be posted, please really watch the cursing and name calling. Thanks.

Please reconsider editing comments based on one pasty-faced liberal whiner. It will ruin your blog.

Frankly, the writer referencing Lincoln Park is correct. Not POLITICALLY CORRECT, as the liberals and Speech Police would like, but correct nonetheless.

Tom Tunney, the openly gay alderman, wants contact set-asides for gays and lesbians. Daley concurs. The media applauds.

Rich liberals are being invaded by the savages, and the news media trumpets story after story.

Mt. Greenwood gets no media coverage.
MtG residents are not eligible for special set-aside contracts.
MtG residents pay huge real estate taxes and get no police service. MtG residents pay thousands a year to send their children to private schools even though they are taxed more and more every year for a failing CPS.
Anyone in MtG who dares say that blacks ruin neighborhoods (which is the sad TRUTH) is branded a RACIST.

I don't blame people for showing their frustration. If someone gets their diapers in a bunch because the words are not "correct," then they should go watch NBC or CBS or WGN or CLTV, where they are so "correct" they won't even name the race of the Lincoln park savages.

Let the liberals move to Lakeview where they wave their white hankies, mutter the "correct" phrases, and shake with fear at night. MtG is facing some tough challenges that need tough language and tough people.

Don't get me wrong, most of the comments make it through, and as I have said before, freedom of speech, however, you don't see the comments that don't make it through (most posted by the same idiots) that are just downright obnoxious. You can make your point without a string of obsenities and unnecessary euphimisms.

to August 13, 9:57 You say the black parents are there to watch their kids play football and cheerlead and that is a good thing. My dear liberal friend, they have the same programs and even better ones in their own neighborhoods, in the vast amount of city parks that are viewed as some of the finest in the country due to their location ie. the lake, museums, golf courses, etc. So why come here, to this postage stamp of a park? GOOD OLD FASHION BLOCK BUSTING!!! They are not watching their kids, they are watching you hoping you say some racist comment. Then they will bring down the hords of liberal news media talking about Mt. Greenwoods Hate filled Neighborhood. Jesse Jackson hasn't been too busy lately, he is desperate for some racial stuff. Remember Marquette Park, Martin Luther Kings march, who believe it or not, I wish was alive today because this is not the black americans he envisioned, he was a great leader for black people. The blacks today have no leadership, All they have is hate, guns and drugs, sorry to say, and we don't need that here yet, it will be here soon enough...

I have to disagree with you on this information, and not that it cares. Just read on. My two sons played for this man the past three years, and the teams went 5-2,1-6 and 3-5. So the total was 9-12 in three years. You know what? I did not care, and neither did my sons. Also, the sons of many of the parents I talked to said that they did not care because this man took the time to teach them football and many more things, important things. How many QM kids are even on the local high school teams now. You can't make chicken salad without the chickens. That man, who does not even have kids old enough to play has won the coach of the year award four or five times now. Who votes for that? The kids — so they must like him. In fact I know that one year he turned the award down so another coach could win it. You sound like one of the small minority of bad apples at QM that always try to raise hell and always, always complain. Did your kid not turn out to be the all-star you though he was?

Regarding the comments about coaches at St. Christina and Q of M. If you are not happy with the coaches or board I'm assuming you mean the Athletic Board then stop paying tuition and go play with the Colts, they need more kids in OUR NEIGHBORHOOD to play for them. I've heard a lot of people are transferring to MTG because of economy which is bad for catholic schools but good for MTG, keep the student's in our neighborhood attending our public schools. There are several public schools over east, why the heck do they attend St. Chris. and Q of M??? I have kids in high school now and I remember all the sport politics, high school is much better there is more at stake and kids play because of talent not because they know the coaches or their parent's coach as I've seen in grade school. Good luck to all the MTG football teams.

Hello all-

I mentioned in last weeks open post that I was having a hard time finding the entire healthcare bill presented before congress. I found it! As for the comments about Martin Luther King, I agree 100%. However, their are some wonderful people out there for blacks to aspire to be. 3 names come to mind- Thomas Sowell, Larry Elder, Walter Williams. All of them have 4 things in common.

1- None are lawyers.
2- None are preachers.
3- I would vote any of them into any public office.
4- They are all BLACK men.

I should mention though, these men preach education, hardwork, civic responsibilty, and respect. For yourself and other people. The rest is up to the black community.

Have a nice weekend.

Don't know why I bother posting since you never publish my posts, but what difference does it make if they accept Link? They're already here in the neighborhood and going to the 7-11. Nothing new, just makes it more convenient for "them" to shop there. Mt Greenwood business district is soo tired looking. It needs a co
omers overhaul. It just looks ghetto. We don't need a lamp store, comic book store, vacum cleaner shop, and all the oter run down looking businesses. I appreciate that those owners need to make a living, but the neighborhood needs new modern updated stores and decent food establishments. What's up with the Walgreens? So they're not putting up a new one? Obvioulsly not since they just painted it. Mt Greenwood is going down the tubes.

Football is fine. No one on the st chris board is related to any coachs. The problem is when you get a coach who no one wants out there for sports, and their are others who would take the spot, but because a friend or spouse is a board member the situation does not change. This individual bullys the community. It is time to say enough. When can we elect new members. Why cant ballots be mailed to each family who has kids play. A ballot should be secret just like any other ballot in the democratic world. Allow people to list their qualifications and elect people we all want. This system of having the votes only at meetings that are run by the board is crazy. It has kept this person coaching when most do not want their morals, sense of fairplay, lack of respect for others and others families to be taught to kids by such a person. No names have been brought up. However, if you think you fall into the above desription, shouldnt you throw in the towel.

To the Aug 14th, 4:55pm poster:

My two sons played for this man the past three years, and the teams went 5-2,1-6 and 3-5. So the total was 9-12 in three years~~~~~~Sorry they were 2-5 last year.

Also, the sons of many of the parents I talked to said that they did not care because this man took the time to teach them football and many more things, important things.~~~~~~~Like what, how to swear at people and get "hurt" every football season to get time off work?

That man, who does not even have kids old enough to play has won the coach of the year award four or five times now. Who votes for that? The kids — so they must like him~~~~~~~~~~~Right, he sends his grammar school kids to another school. And can you do the math for me, how many kids on a football team compared to a basketball or volleyball or soccer team--seems to me the numbers are overwhelming towards football, so he might have an advantage in coach awards.

You sound like one of the small minority of bad apples at QM that always try to raise hell and always, always complain.~~~~~~~~~Sounds like your a parent who sent his kid to practice for a babysitter for 2 1/2 hrs, never got involved in the school and believed everything is peachy, because if you got involved you would realize what problems they are at that school.

Did your kid not turn out to be the all-star you though he was?~~~~~~My kid is just fine, he is a strong young man who started in grammar school, played in high school, but realized what a moron the coach is/was.

And how many are on a high school team? Its not as high as you think.

You sound like you work with the man or is a Tallys neighbor~~~~

Alcoholism has just killed one of own Mt. Greenwood residents. I don't know how many families alcoholism affects but please don't let another person die.

The information below is taken from http://www.niaaa.nih.gov
(National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism)

If an alcoholic is unwilling to get help, what can you do about it?

This can be a challenge. An alcoholic can't be forced to get help except under certain circumstances, such as a traffic violation or arrest that results in court-ordered treatment. But you don't have to wait for someone to "hit rock bottom" to act. Many alcoholism treatment specialists suggest the following steps to help an alcoholic get treatment:

Stop all "cover ups." Family members often make excuses to others or try to protect the alcoholic from the results of his or her drinking. It is important to stop covering for the alcoholic so that he or she experiences the full consequences of drinking.

Time your intervention. The best time to talk to the drinker is shortly after an alcohol-related problem has occurred--like a serious family argument or an accident. Choose a time when he or she is sober, both of you are fairly calm, and you have a chance to talk in private.

Be specific. Tell the family member that you are worried about his or her drinking. Use examples of the ways in which the drinking has caused problems, including the most recent incident.

State the results. Explain to the drinker what you will do if he or she doesn't go for help--not to punish the drinker, but to protect yourself from his or her problems. What you say may range from refusing to go with the person to any social activity where alcohol will be served, to moving out of the house. Do not make any threats you are not prepared to carry out.

Get help. Gather information in advance about treatment options in your community. If the person is willing to get help, call immediately for an appointment with a treatment counselor. Offer to go with the family member on the first visit to a treatment program and/or an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

Call on a friend. If the family member still refuses to get help, ask a friend to talk with him or her using the steps just described. A friend who is a recovering alcoholic may be particularly persuasive, but any person who is caring and nonjudgmental may help. The intervention of more than one person, more than one time, is often necessary to coax an alcoholic to seek help.

Find strength in numbers. With the help of a health care professional, some families join with other relatives and friends to confront an alcoholic as a group. This approach should only be tried under the guidance of a health care professional who is experienced in this kind of group intervention.

Get support. It is important to remember that you are not alone. Support groups offered in most communities include Al-Anon, which holds regular meetings for spouses and other significant adults in an alcoholic's life, and Alateen, which is geared to children of alcoholics. These groups help family members understand that they are not responsible for an alcoholic's drinking and that they need to take steps to take care of themselves, regardless of whether the alcoholic family member chooses to get help.

You can call the National Drug and Alcohol Treatment Referral Routing Service (Center for Substance Abuse Treatment) at 1-800-662-HELP (4357) for information about treatment programs in your local community and to speak to someone about an alcohol problem.

What is the deal with the nes start time at Cassell? 9:15am and get out at 3pm. How do you get to work by 9? Or doesn't anybody work?

Also, with school getting out at 3pm the kids can't do any after school programs at the parks - the 2:45pm dismal was hard enough to get the kids to class/lessons at the park - now it will be impossible?

I heard it was the bus company's fault. I thought the only bus that went to Cassell were for special needs kids. That is like 20 students.

Who makes these decisions?

Anonymous said...

If you attended athletic association meetings you would know the rules on how to become a coach or board member. I have been involved over 8 years with coaching and a board member and I am still waiting for a big mouth like you to come and take over my spot. All of the coaches and board members put alot of their own time to have successful programs and good equiptment to play in.

So, if people are meeting at the park, how are we supposed to know who's part of the "group?". I don't want to stand there like a dork!

Pappy said...

The only interest for the park meeting so far tonight seems to be from Mary, j.o.b. who cannot make it today and an anon poster who brought up a good question about how we will recognize one another.
Unfortunately, j.o.b., I will be out of town the 22nd.
My plan to be recognized was to wear a plain white tee with Pappy written on it! Or we could all wear the same color shirts or whatever. Thats how other organized groups do it. They have some kind of identifier. Any suggestions?
Hey, ya know what else would be great and a great way to get to know everybody who's interested-go the CAPS meeting! It is the 20th. I will be out of town but I will definitely be at Septembers meeting, which will be the 17th. Come one, come all. Have a damn voice! I agree with the one poster who stated something along the lines of don't just be an armchair quarterback and complain.
However, I would like to see us figure out a way to get together sooner at the park.
UNITED WE STAND!

The Chicago Board of Education revamped bus route schedules to save money by consolidating bus routes and altering times. Unfortunately, this means affecting start times for schools. Although there might be only 20 students, likely students with special needs, at Cassell School that are affected are on the bus, it will affect the entire school. You can contact the board to complain, the principal and staff are probably not happen about it either. Maybe if you get enough parents calling in, there might be changes. What parks have programs at 3:00?

Hey Pappy, I just took a look at your profile. Your favorite book: To Kill a Mockingbird. How interesting. That doesn't seem to fit you somehow. Great literature? Absolutely. but it's message is so contrary to what you post. just asking.

I'm sorry, I just saw the post for tonight at the park! JOB, I can meet on the 22nd to walk the park. Possibly we can do other Sat. nites and Pappy and whoever else wants to join can meet with us. I think wearing the same color shirt or carrying a flashlight or something could help us "know" each other.

It is very true that beats 811/812 are to only handle jobs within their beat! It is called Beat integrity! Wish we could have that in 22. Also, stop blaming the dispatchers for the amount of time it takes for response. Blame the criminals. Dispatchers dispatch as soon as a car is available.

Mary Carol,
Your invite to meet, walk and discuss issues concerning the neighborhood is great. I see you've opened it up to others besides just yourself, Pappy and j.o.b. Well, I'm considering coming, but I'm married to a Mexican and I don't know if myself or my spouse would be welcome. The reason I say this is because of something you wrote about "mexicans" in the park. I'm sure you recall. So, what say you Mary? Are we welcome as well?

Anonymous said...

To the board member, all the current board members are good people and coachs. this may not hold true for friends and families. You cannot pick family,we all know relative's actions do not reflect on the board members. We just ask that you ensure that those coaching should be coaching. If you think your relative or friend should not be working with children, let them know and send out a postive message. Others will step in to fill the spot!!!!

I quit sending my kdis to the park district programs once I figured out that I was spending three times the rate for classes than majority of other areas in the city. It seems like the areas that are classified "low income" or "minorities" meaning black/hipanic areas pay only a couple of dollars for the programs. I will say that I loved all the teachers that are at McKiernan Park and at Mt. Greenwood Park teaching the kids. They do a great job but, why are the hard working class areas always getting slammed with the higher rates? I don't get it. So, all in all I have ventured out of the city for programs and go to Alip Park District and Oak Lawn and have made new friends and met some really nice families too! Any one who works for the Chicago Park District, please explain why !

Hi everyone-

How was the walk patrol last night? Did anyone make it?

Pappy- I got your comment about being out of town on the 22nd.

Mary- I got your comment too. I will have to get back to you about the 22nd. Something came up where I might be there later. I will leave a comment no later than Thursday (08/20) regarding details.

August 16th 12:04 a.m.- Are you serious? Your comment reminds me of a funny story. One day, I went out after work with this black kid. We didn't know each other very well, but we both wanted a beer. We step up to the bar, and he says to me "You want a shot of Jack?" I said no. He comes back with, "I thought irish people loved whiskey". I said, "You're right, but I'll buy." He asked why." I said, "Because blacks don't tip".

Moral of the story? First- stereotypes are mostly true.
Second- If you get past them, you can make good friends. I worked with Martin (named after luther king) for 14 months. Even though we lost touch, I consider him a good man, and a friend.

I'm not going to speak for Mary Carol, or anyone else for that matter. But for me, if you and your wife are decent, respectful, hard-working Americans. Then I don't care what your nationality is, you're more than welcome.

Pappy, Mary, and anyone else-

I will be at the park tomorrow @ 2:00 p.m.(Monday- 08/17). I have a tattoo of flames covering my right arm. You will definitely be able to recognize me by this. I am also there usually, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, between the hours of 4:00 & 6:00.

Please feel free to come talk to me. My daughter is 5 now, so i am pretty much just a ride to the park. I usually just sit at a table reading books, while my princess makes friends w/ your kids. I would love some conversation with adults, especially PAPPY, MARY, or whoever else wants to bulls##t about whatever.

Hope to see you there! Really, I do.

First of all, The Quarterly is being hand delivered to every residence in the 19th ward -

The lot for sale is NOT part of the Walgreens project it is the lot adjacent to the Walgreen project.

Originally, Terraco WAS going to build on those lots as well but decided against it. And various other projects have been rumored to be going in there but, none have gotten past the rumor stage.

The new Walgreens is being built in the parking lot just west of the current Walgreens.

I have a question. I live in 60655 and I have a new neighbor who seems to be running an auto repair business out of his house. Cars all over the place fill the yard and driveway, on the street in front of neighbor's houses and I have actually seen 2 cars parked on his front lawn. He has a tow truck and is constantly bringing in cars and then jockeying around the others he has. Sreaming motorcycles coming and going all hours of the night. There are skid marks on the street from their antics. I am scared to approach him - all skinhead and tatooed. He actually moved my garbage cans from in front of my house so he could park a car there. I was always taught that 911 was for emergencies and matters of life and death. I will not say what street I live on because I may have to move and it would be harder to sell my house. The noise is ridiculous. Often a large crowd of guys drinking and a televison outside blaring all the games. Another neighbor who confronted him was just shouted down. Any advice?

Finally, someone in the know? As for the newletter/quarterly, I again state that I have never received one or any other piece of literature from the 19th ward, mailed or hand delivered. They must not like my block?

As for Walgreens, why did they tear down the three houses on Sawyer for the Walgreen's project? Plus, all those buildings between Walgreens and Fat Tommy's? If they build the new Walgreens in the current west parking lot, that's going to be one small Walgreens, as there is also supposed be other stores east of the Walgreen's plus a little park area, at least that's what the picture shows. Maybe my understanding of the project is wrong (I've been wrong before), I know Starbucks is gone, but wasn't that supposed to be north of the Walgreens? Between Burger King and the current Walgreen's corner parking lot? Just asking. Thanks for the insight. Fingers are crossed that ground breaking with be in the decade. We need something there BADLY!

WALGREENS project...

The walgreens is going in the parking lot west of current walgreens and on the street that runs between the parking lot and the vacant lot (Sawyer).

The old camera store propety will be part of the final project.

The Walgreens will have a drive through so it will be on the far western edge of the development.

As to the lots west of the Walgreens project....
Terraco paid for the demolition of the now vacant lots as that was originally designed to be a part of the phase 2 design.. that propety was never part of the original project. Terraco backed out of that contract (guess that is ok because vacant lots are better than boarded up empty buildings)

Currently they are looking for a buyer to develope those vacant lots.

Anyone have any good ideas?

To the person w/the 'alley mechanic' neighbor- call 911. Call call calll! It is illegal for him to do that and to leave cars there in disrepair. This might not seem like a police emergency to you, but believe me, it is a police matter and you need/deserve a response. By not notifying police of an illegal activity, you are allowing it to continue. We DO need police service and patrol in our neighborhood and if the politicians don't see the calls, they take away our resources. Please call, don't feel guilty about it!

Anonymous said...

I agree it should be a police matter, after all, it IS illegal activity. But when they ask "What is your emergency?" I think they'll just laugh. Someone said there is an office of neighborhood relations. Is anyone familliar with that? Or, is there a city office that monitors business when the location is not zoned for that purpose?

Blogmaster, I have an idea for you to consider. I agree with the poster that said this blog has great potential as a resource for our community. How about referrals and reviews for local businesses and tradesmen? Right now, I need a mechanic and I don't know who to trust. Mt. Greenwood auto was good - way too expensive, but competent. Last week I had an electrical problem and I had no idea who to call. I know there are many electricians in the neighborhood who might do side jobs. I had to get the yellow pages until luckily a friend had a friend... Just like the poster who said 7/11 ripped him off with the tank. I decided to boycott them as soon as I read that post. This is a positive way we can support each other. Mechanics, plumbers, electricians, lawn service, plasterers, carpenters and so on. Sure, there are lots of ads in the local papers, but that is nothing like the recommendation/reference of a neighbor. What do you think?

Second, the coaches receive nothing from the water bottles. If you even knew what you were talking about on this issue it would be scary.

Third, you appear to complain, complain, complain about the Athetic Board and the coaching staff - sour grapes? I never told dispatch I was the police and the response time was great. I had a black man in his probably late 40s ring my bell. The car was in the garage and my other half wasn't home. No car in front so it appeared that nobody was home. Same with my neighbors house. He rang their bell too. He skipped over houses with vehicles parked in front. I found that odd. So I called. Keep your eyes open. Call on suspicious people. He told me he was from Harvey and looking to offer services. Could be a front. Just be aware. Thank you 022 for the good service.

You know what - If someone is not happy with the ways things are, they have every right to change it -
Regardless of someone's views, I applaud the passion behind it.

The PARISHONERS of QM have every right to be heard - even if those views are not always popular

BTW - Are you Parishoner?

To the cowards who use this forum under anonymous signatures to bash the QM Varsity Football Coaching Staff:
***********************************

I actually posted a comment defending St. Chris coaches, but had to comment on your response. "BillPayer1958" tells us nothing other than the year you were born (if thats what the numeric characters in your post name represent). So you too are a coward my friend. I could easily post myself as BillPayer1973....that sure narrows it down, huh? I'll give you 1,000 guesses to figure out who I am and you still couldn't.

To Anonymous concerning my comments.

Why would I be bitter? I'm not spending every breathing moment criticizing someone else.

Second, YES, if you bother to read all the postings there was a reference to the fact about the head coaches injuries.

Obviously someone cares about the water bottles, it was brought up enough times.

Yes people have the right to change things. But to slander an individual/group isn't the way to do it.

You are the bitter one. You aren't getting your way and are acting like a child. You obviously have lost the battle and the war.

Once again, if you don't like QM athletics, the board, principal, or pastor, which has been stated on this blog, leave.

Yes I AM A PARISHONER.

Perhaps you can offer to head coach at one of the many other schools in the area.

Oh, BTW, if the views are not popular then they are not the views of the "parishoners who want to be heard", they are the views of a choice few, hence unpopular.

Kudos to you...it's getting old and has been for years about people complaining about the QM coaches. How do the players from past years feel about these coaches? After all they (players) are the one's dealing with these coaches NOT the parent's. If they are happy isn't that what's important? Maybe parent's need to set aside their feelings, comments and judgements and listen to the players.

I also read a comment about "water bottles" a sarcastic comment, what's that about?

Good Luck QofM and St. Christina this fall and thanks to ALL the coaches.

Good luck!!

This goes out to all the hard-working, dedicated individuals at QM Athletics. I, as a parent, truly appreciate all you do, the time you spend, the relentless effort you put forth to make QM Athletics the quality program that they are. Kudos! I invite anyone who would like to add to this, please do so. I think it will be a nice change to all the "bashing" that is published here concerning QM.

From a reliable source.....one of the reverends in Beverly (was posted earlier who was preaching for his commisioners to "be seen" here in mt.greenwood)is now planning on having outdoor mass here in Mt.Greenwood park every Sunday. Expected will be 45-60 black church go'ers. Which mostly consists of older african american's. The BIG problem is that they ALWAY's have a brunch after mass. So take that 45-60 and make that well over 100 black family members who just show up to the free brunch!! So when Pookie and Tookie wake up from from a night of gang violence they show up for the free brunch.

I'm sorry...the bar-b-cue at the park by these people we can probably stop, the random black kids that spark trouble we can probably stop. But try calling the Aldercreature and the police about an outdoor mass / brunch. Mark my words that NO ONE WILL STAND UP TO THEM ABOUT THIS ISSUE. My source also tells me that the reverend dares ANYONE to try and stop him. (I guess he is a "distant" cousin of our great Jesse Jackson)

No one will have the balls to stop them on this issue. And if someone does then Jesse Jackson, rainbow Push, News media and EVERY surrounding black fake church will ALL start showing up to make a point! ITS OVER. I AM SO THANKFUL MY KIDS ARE GROWN UP SO ME AND THE WIFE CAN GET OUT OF HERE!!!

I would like to know which church the alleged reverend is from. Please share.

Why does a certain group of people want to use our park when they have the best parks in the city on the east side? Because they can but what would happen if MTG families went over to the east side parks? Yes, shootings, rapes, drugs and thugs are all around, it' obvious not safe and they can't even enjoy "their own kind". This is a respectable neighborhood, let's keep it that way, you don't deserve to use this park. Maybe we'll all go to Dan Ryan Woods with our families, someone bring the bean bags to play...it's time we took BACK our parks.

This week is recycle pickup in Mt. Greenwood... for those in the trial program with RecycleBank.. did you activate your account online?

You must activate your account to get the points to redeem for rewards.

Lot of people recycle already - might as well earn the goodies too!

August 18th, 4:29 p.m. and anyone else who maybe involved-

I am not a lawyer, but I believe you would be able to sue the organization for separation of church and state issues. The funniest, most ironical part of this? I guarantee the N.A.A.C.P. would represent the residents of Mt Greenwood in the suit. The only thing they care about more than minority rights, Is keeping religion out of public venues.

So the solution is simple. Bring your kids there. Then call the naacp. Trust me, they'll stop them.

to J.O.B.
Don't you mean the ACLU? The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People most definitely would NOT represent MtG in this matter.

And doesn't a large group have to have any kind of permit, or at least permission from the park?

I sure hope parents are wise enough to keep their teenagers away from this event. That's what the media LOVES. They will get some great photos to plaster all over, maybe national media as well. They are baiting us. Be smart. Stay away. They are doing this for attention and media coverage. Are we not smart enough not to hand it to them? Then they win. Ignore them. If there is shouting, etc. they will do it every week.

J.O.B. Are you kiddin? the NAACP is probably organizing this from behind the scenes. You'll be one of the idiots screaming in front of the cameras giving them them the sound byte and photo op they came for.

JOB you are an idiot. Sounds like you want nightline, dateline and Lary King up here taking video of an angry mob shouting at "innocent victims" who just want to use a "PUBLIC park". Then watch your home value TUMBLE. You don't even see that you are playing into their hands. Sounds to me like "they" are a lot smarter than you. Look what happened just this summer at that swimming pool in, what it Philadelphia? It was on every channel and in every paper for DAYS. And what was the result? They were INVITED back to the pool after they were asked to leave. Take a breath, stand back and give this some thought. Don't let your anger, although justified, color your judgement. We must consider the repercusions of actions - repercusions can be long and costly.

Me too! I would love to know what minister this is. Maybe I'll bring some friends and join his flock some Sunday.

It is no easy process to hold an event on CPD property - just ask any group that has gone through the permit process.

For instance - If a group is planning to have an event / gathering on CPD property a permit application (which is 30+ pages of applications and rules) must be filled out if the event is going to have 50+ people or tents will be used or amplified sound or liquor or several other reasons. It is a rather long document to fill out and is very involved.

Your group must submit the permit, the application fee, and cerificate of insurance for a $1,000,000.00. And a larger fee and security deposit must be paid (it is not cheap)

If large tents are going to be used (larger than 10x10) a special permit is required for that with architectural drawing and inspections.

If alcohol is going be involved a special permit is needed for that from CPD and the city and state.

The red tape goes on and on. If your group is in violation of any of the rules and regulation there is a whole list of penalties and fines.

This is not something that can be thrown together at a drop of a hat - so I question the validty of the gathering.

You are both right. My apologies. I did mean the A.C.L.U. The funny thing is that I was surfing their website for info just 2 weeks ago. I always get these liberal orginizations mixed up. Again, my apologies, but I do beleive all other info holds true.

In & Around-

2 questions. First, For the poll suggestions, would you like neighborhood only? Or would city, state, and federal stuff be o.k. too? Second, when you mentioned closing the bbq post, was someone passing themselves off as Jim McMahon again? Thanks.

***so if one - or one's views - are unpopular, they don't have the right to be heard? Does not matter how many or how few - QM is made up of PEOPLE - and we ALL deserve to be heard.

Perhaps if the retribution was not so great, others would speak up.

Dear 10:26,
thanks very much for that. It sure sounds like you know your stuff and I for one will sleep better tonight. There are some that are stirring the pot and I'm embarrased that I got caught up in it. Fear peddling can be very powerful and this is another healthy reminder to not listen to a lot of the crap some troublemakers want post here just stir up. This is a wonderful community and I'm not going anywhere. Go ahead, poster, name that church and reverend out loud. dare ya.

No problem, if you want to know who the COWARD is that's posting comments in other peoples names, just send me their ISP number.

I'll not only tell you and this entire neighborhood who this spineless piece of shit is, I'll also tell you where they live.

If you are concerned about all the going on at the park - why don't you ask the Park Advisory Council to hold an open meeting on the topic?

They can arrange a meeting with the park supervisor, the regional manager, the police, and invite representatives from the other civic associations and the ward office.

The open forum meeting could be a starting point to discuss things in a civilized manner and figure out what to do.

This would also be an opportunity to seperate fact from fiction.

In the past CAPS meetings and park advisory council meetings have been very poorly attended - do you think people would actually come if someone organized one this time?

Can someone tell me why I paid
$45 for soccer at Mckiernan Park. I looked up other park like Brooks Park ($14), Calumet Park($15), Hale Park ($25),West Lawn ($8.50),and Senka Park ($14)??? I called our friend Ginger and "they would look in to it"??????

I'm not angry, but thank you for the concern. I don't remember telling anyone to form an angry mob. I also don't remember telling people to act in such a way, that it would get the attention of local or national media. My point was simple. Continue going to the park. I am an idiot though. Reading all the different comments about the park. I thought the point that most of the commenters were trying to make was to keep going up there, hold people accountable for there actions, and call the authorities if need be.

I took my kid up to the park on Monday. I was sitting at one of the tables reading. Two ladies sat down at a table next to me. One of them just got back from 7-11 w/ some big gulps and doughnuts, for there kids. A little later I took my kid to the bathroom. When we got back, the 2 ladys had left. They must have "forgotten" to throw their garbage away. So I threw it away for them. You're right. I'm a f###ing idiot.

So to clarify, if you go to the park and see people using it as a parish (which I doubt would ever happen) simply ask them to stop. If they don't, call the authorities. If the sunday (park) sermons continue. Get a hold of the aclu. I think they would intervene based on the "religion" aspect. Nothing to do with race.

***************************

That is because the good folks at CPD feel that some areas can handle a larger price tag to help cover the cost of depressed areas. Many park supervisors were vehemently opposed to this but it fell on deaf ears.

Part of this could be to do the fact that some parks are very well represented at budget hearings for the park - they make the concerns / wants / needs heard and sometimes the park district listens.

There is an upcoming south region budget meeting coming September 10 at the South Shore Cultural Center.

Why don't you get a group and go and complain - let them know if this continues you'll go somewhere else. They can't expect some parks to pay for all the others

How about referrals and reviews for local businesses and tradesmen? ******** This is a positive way we can support each other. Mechanics, plumbers, electricians, lawn service, plasterers, carpenters and so on. Sure, there are lots of ads in the local papers, but that is nothing like the recommendation/reference of a neighbor. What do you think?

********************

It's hard to maintain a list like that, it gets pushed and down and forgotten. When anyone is looking for a recommendation, they can just post the question in the open comments section. People have done it before and have gotten recommendations. I will work on finding a way for a recommendations page or something though.

To comment on the prices for the Chicago Park District fall programs. You can not beat any of the prices compared to the suburban park districts. The park that my children attend has had a sign up about the increase since the beginning of summer. This was not a local park decision but an administrative one. As for paying $45.00 for a soccer program. Did you ask each park what is included in their soccer program? Is it just instruction? League Play? Awards? T- Shirts? Please gather your information before bashing my children's favorite place to play!

You are the bitter one. You aren't getting your way and are acting like a child. You obviously have lost the battle and the war.---IT WOULD BE NICE IF HE WAS INVOLVED IN THE SCHOOL IN OTHER FUNCTIONS, BUT THEN AGAIN HIS KIDS DONT GO THERE SO WHY WOULD HE

Once again, if you don't like QM athletics, the board, principal, or pastor, which has been stated on this blog, leave.WHY DONT YOU ASK AROUND AND SEE HOW MANY FAMILIES HAVE LEFT QM OVER CERTAIN PEOPLE OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS--AND NOW THE NEW RULE IN THESE HARD ECONOMIC TIMES, IF YOU ARE LATE ON TUITION YOUR KID CANT BE INVOLVED IN SPORTS. HOPEFULLY NO ONE YOU KNOW AT QM LOSES THEIR JOB OR HAVE MONEY PROBLEMS, KIDS IN HS & COLLEGE, AND THEIR KIDS GET EMBARASSED OVER IT. WHAT HAPPENS TO CCD KIDS & FREEBIES THAT DO NOT PAY TUITION.
SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT BUNCH OF GUYS AT QM.

So when your facts are straight and know what is really going on, attend a athletic board meeting, school board meeting, see the response you get from them, then talk your crap.

Ask your son, I did. My son it was because there are so many kids on the team this year that they needed a solution to come up with for water break times. Kids are told to keep them with them and drink when they are thirsty. Really not much than that, and I have no problem with it. Plus it was a free bottle, and my son likes it.

YOU PEOPLE ARE SO GULLIABLE--mY GOOD GUESS WOULD BE THAT THEY WERE DONATED WITH THE PROMISE THEY WOULD MAKE THEY KIDS BRING THEM TO EVERY PRACTICE, GAME, ETC...GET THE PUBLICITY FOR THE COMPANY THAT DONATED THEM--MOST KIDS HAVE THEIR OWN WATER BOTTLE. INSTEAD OF ASKING THE KIDS, ASK A COACH. QUIT MAKING EXCUSES AND FACE THE TRUTH. THE JV TEAM HAS 52 KIDS, WHERES THEIR WATER BOTTLES IF IT SUCH A CONCERN?
