I don't know about the rest of you but... Hasn't August been one long month? And it seems like we've had Spring, Summer, and Fall all this month. I sure hope Winter doesn't show up in the next few days.

But the weekend is coming up so I hope everyone enjoys it as much as they can.

In and Around....

How 'bout the next poll about cell phone providers. I've had Sprint/Nextel, Verizon and now TMobile.....

I haven't been overwhelmingly impressed by any of them.

I'd like to go to a provider that wins the majority vote.

Just a thought.....thanks!

Sorry guys, I don't check this blog everyday. I'm the original poster of the 115th street post. It was in the alley between St.Louis and Central Park. 3500 block. I've told my neighbors to be on the look out. Everyone has 6ft privacy fences down that alley so whatever they were doing they probably thought it was good cover.

This post positively sucks. I'm just kidding CPMoM. I think keeping it light-hearted and humorous would be nice as well.

With TMobile, keep track of your minutes, especially if your kids have phones. For 2 years the bill for 4 lines, unlimited texting, was always around $123. Then, last month I got a bill for $750. They both got new girl friends and, unknown to me, they were on the phone all the time. I'm stuck with the bill.

I was doing some research after all this talk on this blog about a possible "taste of Mt.Greenwood" about the businesses opening across from the park.

I was excited to see that a Ben And Jerry's Ice cream is opening up and was eager to find out what else was going to open. To my dismay I learned that a JJ Fish is going be open up across from Mt.Greenwood Park in the lower level of the new condos that are built.

Now I hate to make judgements but my husband say's that JJ Fish's are usually in the guetto and are going to attract many, many "canadians" as he calls them. I have never eaten there and was wondering...if anyone has and if the food is good??

Anonymous said...

Isn't it funny - I too have spoken to Blue Ribbon Construction (the developer) and was told that the only food places would be Ben & Jerry's and Scarlet & Grey (which is Au bon Pain and a coffee shop) the two share a large corner store front.

The rest would be more doctors offices like the speech therapist. Doctor's office bring more steady revenue then restaurants.

But, perhpas the leasing company was made an offer they couldn't refuse.

Just read the front page of the Beverly Review and thankfully North Beverly is gettng another beat car to deal with thier recent rash of home burglaries. Poor North Bev, it must be terrible to have to endure all they do. You know like having to pay higher insurance because of where they live - so the alderman gets them a new zip code, don't like certain neighbors in thier yards (they are not racist they are educated) they build a wall.

Thank God MG is stil safe and in no need of police protection for thier recent rash of home burglaries. I will sleep better tonight knowing North Bev is safe. The more sound sleep I get, the more well rested I can be when it comes time to vote.

If you had gone to the Beat meeting you would have learned about this..... you do learn things at beat meetings!

North Beverly received a second car 2221A (adam) since that beat is seperated by the METRA tracks and north Beverly has so many deadends etc. If a squad is east of the track and needs to quickly respond to an incident in north Beverly there will be a delay to get there. Hence, the adam car.

Which, btw, is why Mt. Greenwood has an adam car as well 2211A along with our 2211 car. Much for the same way - railroad tracks bi-sect our community and they try to have one car west of the tracks at all times available to respond in case of an incident and a train has the community cut off from 22.

Why don't you go to the open meetings they offer to hear first hand what is going on - instead of leaping to false conclusions.

I also believe another poster refered to this in their post summarizing the beat meeting.

Nice concept, but why don't you talk to the guys that drive that car and find out how it works? All the dead ends etc that you speak, were self created.

I don't let my children talk to me that way so watch it buddie. Post your name next time you want to "try" to dicredit me.

I'm still hoping for some more food options on the West end of 111th.

What's wrong with JJ Fish?
It's a long way to DiCola's from the west end of town. A good fish place might what we need here.

I wish someone would ask the question where did these 'new' squads 2211a and 2221a come from. At the beat meeting they stated that they did not get new officers or new squads. So, the question remains, where did they come from? They llikely took cars from somewhere else in 22......who's service was cut? Will 911 dispatch honor the adam cars? Is it real? Is it (more likely) temporart?

All these are questions everyone in 2211 and 2221 should be asking.

CPmom said...

We do not need any chains....no offense, but we sell sub sandwiches for alot cheaper than potbelly and subway...and our coffee is only .95. The only drawback we have is no drive thru...Oh, and where else can you get a freshly prepared bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with coffee for $3.00?? at Sweet Escapes!! In a hurry??call ahead and we will have your order ready..pay cash, and we'll bring it to you, just pull up...
Fish shop?? How bout Franks on Kedzie?? Now, if you want to talk about a good chicken place, Harolds is awesome...inexpensive and alot of food...there is one on 118th and Western..In and Around..you mentioned everything that we already have in Mt. Greenwood, they are just not franchises...

Off subject. When I was getting off from CPD 005, beat 2211 sent at 3:20 pm to 112th and Church. man breaking out car windows. Beat 2211 arrives vicious battle breaks out. Offender maced and taken into custody. Officers roughed up. Arrestee claims and acts a mental. Coppers are down all night, therefore no police service in Mt. Greenwood to night because no cars are available due to service calls east of Western. Thanks Ginger, and the alderman want to be O'Shea. The tax payer raped again.

In @ around this is now a DALEY occurrence.

Anybody see any political nominating petitions around the neighborhood? I wouldn't think there would be many now that the 19th ward does business without precinct captains.

There must be somebody else running against Toddler Stroger besides Terry O'Brien from Water Reclemation. The Daley Family has to get a new puppet to be County Board President now that Toddler has revolted against the Daley familly.

Any serious canidate going to take on Pat Quinn for Governor? Former 19th ward resident Danny Hynes sure isn't a serious contendor.

Doesn't seem to be a serious canidate for US Senator either?

Speak out said...

I'm concerned that there was no 2211 patrolling its beat as the blogger reported. Why isn't everyone complaining about the lack of 'beat integrity'? 2211 is one of the largest beats in the city. It should be the last to be swiped East! Are 2211 residents calling enough for service? That's how the bureaucrats determine manpower distribution. Someone suspicious on your block...........call the police! Teens acting rowdy, drinking.......call the police! The more calls, the more the beat car stays on its beat....the more of a deterrant presence 2211 has.

Have you been to 109th and Western lately? That is the heart of the Ghetto. I went into the Pancake House on Western and was the only whitey in there besides my 2 kids. I was glad I was packing my .45 because it looked like I was at a Gangster Disciple meeting. As far as the allegedly prestigious ghetto of North Beverly, we's gots to keeps the constituants happy.

Anonymous said...

Nice to know the store front preachers are getting there followers out it create a presence in the 19th ward. Maybe the white kids will start wearing size 52 white t-shirts and black color jeans.

Much like your analogy of Ben & Jerry's supporting cop killers because something Ben Cohen did years ago.
JJ Fish is a business with individual owners selling to paying customers. Ben Cohen is the owner of a corporation donating in support of murderer. A little research online shows he still supports Mumia therefore he is against the police.
Also as I stated earlier people will do what they want, it is just information.
I don't want the shit in my neighborhood anymore than u do. But it is obvious the police don't have the resources to patrol our area, so we need to be interactive ourselves, call 911 repeatedly, demand supervisors when no one shows, keep pestering Rugai's office with calls and letters.

What do you mean that the mighty 19th doesn't use precinct captains any more? Do the precinct captains know this?

Once again conclusion jumpers - Here is Ben's comments on the matter you claim to have his siding with terrorism and such...

"Scores of American legal scholars, including former United States Attorney General Ramsey Clark, have reviewed the trial of Mumia Abu-Jamal and concluded that he did not receive a fair trial. In the interests of justice, these scholars have called for a new and impartial trial. I am in no position to judge his guilt or innocence. For all I know, a new and impartial trial could find him guilty again. But the American system of justice must be fair and must be perceived as fair. So I have supported the former U.S. Attorney General in calling for a new trial to properly establish Jamal's guilt or innocence. I take this position as a concerned citizen, not as an officer of any company or organization."

Honey, you are, unfortunately, one of the brainwashed liberals who think that quoting the traitor Ramsey Clark gives credibility to an argument.

You proabably trust the current AG Holder because he was appointed by the Anointed One but one day you will regret your bad choices. he is as much of an enemy to America as any terrorist.

The sad fact is that far left liberals love Ben & Jerry's only because they like to stuff their fat mouths with ice cream. They have no other solid supporting arguments.

A message to all you leftists out there: if you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.

I was worrying about getting out of Vietnam in one piece before you were ever born. Ramsey Clark was more of an enemy to me than the people who wanted to kill American soldiers because Clark threatened us from within. He is a product of wealth, power, and a deep-seated hatred for America.

I am sorry for your ignorance, but I will pray for you.

If you recently recall the Primary is now moved up to February 2010 since we moved it up for Obama in 2008. Therefore the petitions have to be FILED by the end of September. So the whole schedule is moved up. If you were a current Precinct Captain you’d know this. But since there are almost no precinct captains anymore , no seems to know.

In the old days with a March Primary yes captains weren’t starting their work until after Labor day.

Do you know anyone who is still knocking on doors(for real) for the 19th ward. There are all but none left after Hynes and his captains were shown the door in 2005?

The only nice sit down family restaurant where you would take out of town guests is Richies. We need a higher class restaurant for important occasions. We do have alot of food places in Mt Greenwood but most are on or are west of Kedzie.

MCD
Frank's
Sweet Escapes
BurgerKing
Lindys
Grants
TaTas
Fat Tommys
Corrigans
Richies
Guilhoullys
Subway
Taco Joe
JR Boz's ( my new favorite )
Magic
Ben and Jerry's- Au Bon Pain
Wiseguys
Rosatti's
Pop's
Popeye's

That is alot of food places but no high end restaurants to have dinner and a bottle of wine other than Richies. We'd like another Richies type of business here with maybe more room for customers. Richies II perhaps? Winery/Restaurant. Something I could take my inlaws to.

We have enough banks, doctors, and auto places. A bakery, a store that sold current style shoes and athletic shoes would be nice. Internet Cafe and clothes shop would be good.

I know it sucks to open a business in Chicago with all its fees, taxes and rules. We appreciate the current businesses but by allowing a few chains in here it can only boost your customer base with more shoppers. Parking is an issue as well. The Yme that went on this weekend clogged the streets. Spreading out all types of businesses in Mt Greenwood may even encourage walking rather than driving. That is if we get our streets plowed this winter, but that is a whole other subject!

Nice spin by Ben and Jerry's. He signed the petition acting as a private citizen. Sorry Ben, nice try. It is your company and your actions reflect on your product. Look at the dates, he allegedly asked for the system of American Justice to followed 14 years after the murder of Daniel Faulkner. It was followed, he was just drinking the liberal kool aid.

If a Police Officer signed something you didn't like he/she could not claim that they were acting as a private citizen.

Sorry Ms Kelly, I will not support this establishment. This community is made up of hard working Police and Fire and we do not have to use our money to support people who sign petitions on behalf of Cop Killers.

August 31, 2009 10:47 AM

No, I don't shop at Wal-Mart. I don't like their stores and I can get anything they sell elsewhere. I drink tea, a habit I picked up in the Far East. I have a large garden and at the end of the summer I freeze and can a lot of vegetables, including those I buy at farmers markets.

Now some questions for you.

Do you know what a RINO is? Don't you think that only a leftist masquerading as a Republican would praise the works of Ramsey Clark? Do you even know who Ramsey Clark is? Have you ever served your country and if so in what capacity?

Before you even try to answer these questions let me inform you that I could care less about Ben & Jerry's. I just won't patronize them because it's against my principles. What is sad is you purport yourself to be a teacher yet you would pollute our children's minds by promoting traitors as good Americans. No wonder our country is in so much trouble.

Village Voice said...

Ben and Jerry's publicly supported the defense of Mumia Abu-Jamal, who was convicted in 1982 of killing Philadelphia Police officer Daniel Faulkner. Despite several appeals, Abu-Jamal's conviction has been upheld. As a result of this alleged support the National Fraternal Order of Police has publicly called for a boycott of all Ben and Jerry's products. The Ben and Jerry's website refutes the notion that there was ever any connection between the company and the case; however they do say that Cohen did sign a petition as a private citizen to have "the system of American justice be followed fully in the case."

Since 1995, Abu-Jamal has been incarcerated at Pennsylvania's SCI Greene near Waynesburg, where most of the state’s capital case inmates are held. In 2008, a three-judge panel of the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the murder conviction, but ordered a new capital sentencing hearing over concerns that the jury was improperly instructed. In April 2009, the United States Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal for a new trial, allowing his July 1982 conviction to stand. A separate appeal by prosecutors to reinstate the death penalty has not yet been heard.

RKMelissa these are the facts ... Not fiction ... Abdu-Jamal supporters have provided none, zero, new evidence to support his claims of wrongful conviction ...

rkmelissa said...

Yes, I do know what a RINO is and who Ramsey Clark is - I'm sorry you have seem to have taken my words and skewed them, I never praised anything that RC has said or done.

Why does it matter if I have served my country? I have not been in the military.

**Yes, my number one goal in life is to pollute the minds of children**sarcasm of course! Maybe, I will just take them on field trip to enjoy some ice cream. : )

Village Voice - I never doubted the facts, not once. All I did was post Ben's own words in response to why he did what he did. His belief doesn't align with my own.

I still can't believe that SXU is moving forward with this Ben & Jerry's store. They could have sold Ice Cream manufactured by dozens of different company's. I would think that the franchise fee would be rather large and if they were going to use this duel purpose space as another dining option for the SXU students, they should have used a brand that won't price the student out of going in there to spend their meal money. Oh yea, maybe a little research on the company and the neighborhood may have been a good idea. Henry Louis Gates will have a scoop of "Yes Pecan" when he comes to SXU for winter commencement.

At least Maureen Connor Kelly - signed her name unlike others on this blog spouted "their" facts.

The people that live in the past and only look at one side of the coin are the same that believe:

* Obama was not born in Hawaii
* The moon walk was faked
* There were three shooters of Kennedy and the Republicans set it up
* Elvis is alive
* AIDS / HIV was created by the CIA get get rid of gays
* Pearl Harbor was allowed to happen to get the US into the war -* Princess Di was murdered
* The Holocost never happened

So because she signed her name her "Facts" are better then anyone elses? Wanting not to support Ben and Jerry's is not living in the past the issue is happening right now. As for the rest of your post nice try in trying to muck up the conversation. Sometimes there is no 2 sides of the coin. Ben signed a petition supporting a cop killer who at the time had already had numerous trials and appeals and was always found guilty.

They are East Mt Greenwood restaurants(Beverly). Parking is not the greatest and like you said, I am not bringing my own bottle of wine to a restaurant. Parking is another issue on Western too. I have had my car hit ( of course no one stopped to admit it) Nothing right here in Mt Greenwood. I will be going back to Orland and Tinley for business meals and special occasions. For as long as it has taken ( and still not accomplished )for our Signature Corner, we will never get elegant dining here. We tell you what we'd like to see here but it falls on deaf ears. Why bother?

I wish I would hit the lotto so I could buy the Irish Manor on 115th and Pulaski ... I would turn it in to a Home Run Inn Pizza ... I think I will check my tickets ... Damn ... lost again ... oh well maybe Sat.

Calabria's is great! Try it sometime. The owner is a great guy too! We catered from there recently for over 100 people at my daughters birthday party and everybody loved it!

so now this person is boycotting beverly establishments? i have said it before some people on here are nuts. beverly is too far but tinley is not?! you wont bring your own bottle of wine? usually restaurants charge double! im sorry but you sound ridiculous. i understand you wish there were more restaurants in mt greenwood, but i dont think you should trashtalk ones in neighboring areas. and please think before you write bc some of the things you say are absurd... but laughable!

Getting involved and putting in your 2 cents on what I would like to see in MT GREENWOOD has been twisted into anti Beverlyism. I would like to see a highend restaurant here in MT GREENWOOD where I could take business clients and have large family gatherings. Parking and yes, I want the wine brought to my table not pulled from my pockets. I am sorry, but I still would rather go to the burbs for a classier set of restaurants. Beverly is going down the tubes. There are a lot of reasons. Crime is up, police presence is non existant, parking is poor. Cars have been hit and broken into. I have been approached several times by people asking me for money. Regardless IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU BEVERLY! IT IS ABOUT WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. For right now the burbs have my business. I'd like to give my business to MT GREENWOOD if they can get businesses I would go to.

Interesting Poll.....

I myself have always been taught by my father to watch people around you coughing and sneezing and nod your head to them during the sign of peace, but don't shake their hand to avoid germs. I don't think it's being ignorant, just careful. With the swine, I tell my kids the same....be extra careful! This year it's said everyone is vulnerable to catch it....not just young kids and elderly.

never said it was about me. if beverly is going down the tubes then so is mt greenwood bc they are right next to each other. i live in beverly but also love mt greenwood. dont park on western, i never do for the same reasons you had said. i also frequent suburban restaurants, i am not arguing with you so please dont take it that way. why are you so ANGRY!? maybe bc i laugh at you.
