Property Tax Increase (again) to fund the CPS.

The City of Chicago will be raising property taxes for the 13th time in 14 years to help bail out the budget of the Chicago Public Schools.

Okay, I have a CRAZY idea to save some money, how about they stop paying all that money to advertise that school starts the day after Labor Day. How dumb can someone be? It ALWAYS is the day after Labor Day for the traditional public schools (not including year round).

Here's another one, how about you no longer offer incentives for going to school, like "show up on the first day of school and get free Bulls' tickets" or "get $100 for every A." Or, free lunches only for the student, not the whole family, all year long. Or, stop giving out free uniforms, school supplies, backpacks, and G-d knows what else the give out. If you do the math on the free giveaways, that will be probably balance the budget, please leave a little extra as a cushion.

Below is the article explaining the details.

I agree, I don't mind helping people out. But some of these people will never get jobs and why should they, we buy their food, pay for their house and school. Why would they want to work.

I already pay 8000 for my kids to go to a Catholic school. The public school is very over crowded now. What would Daley do if all the people paying to send their kids to the private schools enrolled them in the public school. He would really be over budget then. But go ahead raise out taxes.

REGARDING DALEY=SOON VERY SOON.

As a CPS teacher I can honestly tell you that money is wasted, esp on free lunches. Your tax dollars are thrown out daily! How about making them bring their own food? Oh no that would be expecting way to much! People can afford luxery SUV's but are on the free lunch program. Or instead of raising taxes make EVERYONE in EVERY neighborhood pay a registration fee. But that would actually make someone cough up some money for their childs education. These handouts are ridiculous and making the middle class, who pay for everything, go beyond broke

I know for a fact that quite a few of the AG School kids don't even live in the city of Chicago. So guess who's taxes are paying for those kids to go there. Walk down 111th when they get out of school and check out the vehicle stickers on the cars waiting fro the kids. You'll see Dolton,Hazelcrest,South Holland, suburban towns.

I have an Idea use the property tax money for what it was supposed to pay for Schools police fire city services. But no Mayor Daley and the city council including alderthief ginger have diverted hundreds of millions in property taxes into TIF funds that are being used as a slush fund for daleys developer friends instead of paying for the services that they were supposed to. TAXES HAVE TO BE RAISED BECAUSE TIFS DIVERT TAX MONEY AWAY FROM THE SCHOOLS AND CITY SERVICES.

Call Alderman Rugais office and tell her no more taxes.

Stopped at the grocery store to get a chicken to roast for dinner. Babymomma and two young girls gets in line ahead of me. Cashier totals up her order for a bunch of groceries including a beef roast and a big bag of dog food. Momma pulls out a Link card. Cashier says, "You can't buy dog food with a Link card."

"Take it off the bill," she says, and tells one of the girls to run back to the meat counter and get two more roasts like the one she already had.

Girl returns with two big beef roasts. Momma tells the cashier to add it to the order and hands over the Link card. "I'll feed this to the dog," she laughs.

That's where our tax money is going. How do you like that?

When did channel 11's Chicago Tonight become a platform for city hall? Watched the show tonight, and thought I was watching Daleyvision.

Please do not get me started on this - I am one of those displaced CPS teachers - students get breakfast, lunch, and dinner for free! Registration is hardly ever paid and the residency thing is a joke. I would say that 5 out of my 32 kids lived outside of Chicago, one even outside of the state! I contacted downtown about that lovely Indiana student. Nothing was done!

Well, after all, somebody has to pay for those 2, yes TWO, big brand new schools in the african american community-South Shore HS is getting a brand new HUGE high school on 75th and Jeffery right next to their perfectly good HUGE high school and the elementary canadiens are getting a big brand new school on South Shore Drive near 77th st. Meanwhile, Cassell is bursting at the seams and starting to turn people away and rumor has it considering mobile classrooms to accomodate the sudden surge in students.

As you drive by the Ben & Jerry's sign at 111th & Lawndale. Don't you get a sick feeling inside. I don't want to hear you dopes saying "Ben & Jerry's was bought out by Unilever, so it's not a big deal." Bull F**cking S**T!!!!!!! He is still on the board of directors, still profits from the stores, has input on new product development, and also is still a big liberal-cop hating, dope smoking, activist who hates anyone that does not think like him. We don't need this business here. St.Xavier might be wise to cut their losses with the ice cream half of their shop on 111th. Make the sandwich shop a cop hangout to help out with the thugs that are hanging around the park. If St. Xavier cared about this neighborhood, they should really reach back to the day's when they actually practiced what they preached. Bring back the sisters of Mercy!!! This is a Catholic founded University. Stop trying to be everything for everybody. Teach Catholic values. Stop bringing in liberal activists to speak. These things are shameful.

I thought St Xavis was run by the good sisters. Are they not there? What happened to them? Who is running the place?

White people don't get none of those free things. That is why I am quitting the CPD after 7 years and moving out of this jacked up state and this jacked up city. You all can have it.

The Sisters of Mercy run SXU and are some of the most liberal people around! They don't care about this neighborhood.

Anonymous said...

you guys are a bunch of ignoramuses. none of you have posted any hard facts about anything, just anecdotes and angry, poorly-informed opinions.

Anonymous said...

How come we can raise the taxes to save the CPS budget again but we can't raise the taxes to settle the CPD contract and who ever else is due for a new contract????????A good majority of us are city workers and due to the lack of school choices in this neighborhood we send our children to private schools. It is amazing to me how many choices there are for schools in some of the poorest nontax paying neighborhoods. We have 2 high schools in this area and one good luck getting your kids into and the other one well lets not even go there. We can all sit here and complain but until people quit voting all the same politicians in nothing will change. So start reading become educated and pay attention to who you are putting back in office. This shit has got to stop.

How do you know that the Sisters of Mercy are extremely liberal? Please give me examples.

I don't support liberal causes of any type. I was thinking of sending my kid to Xaviers next year but if they are teaching liberalim, forget it. There are plenty of traditional Catholic options out there.

I agree. Who runs this neighborhood, city, county, state? Democrats. They've been running things for quite some time and look what they've done. You don't like it? Keep voting Democrat. Change you can believe in.

If it is passed, your property tax would go up about $18-36 per year assuming you live in a decent house...which you probably do. It is probably the same amount that you would pay for 1 case of beer!. Considering that many Mt. Greenwood residents are teachers of the public school system, I would think you may reconsider some of the negative statements about the tax increase when they will be faced with a loss of jobs. You can expect that next year if we don't figure out something. Public schools are good in Mt. Greenwood...if you dare say they are not, you do not know much about them and the professionals that work in them. We need to get together as a community to advocate for ourselves. When will we unite? How can we unite? Are you willing to unite or do you just want to complain about all the problems?

To Think out of the box---I guess that is what you are trying to do. I am assuming from your post you are a teacher. I work in the private school system & would not want to be a teacher. My opinion was not about the teachers but about the administration who gee doesn't King Richie & his puppet boy Huberman run! My point was that until we get rid of this totally democratic ran state, county & city government we are screwed. My point was to pay attention to which candidate you back and vote in because until we start with who is running things it won't change. And finally in my opinion I would not send my kids to Mt Greenwood I would beg to differ with you as to how wonderful it is. I know enough teachers & principles to know the wiser end of that story.

Yeah, same old argument..."it's just what you would pay for a case of beer." Except that in ten years it has gone up enough to pay for more beer than I could ever drink in a year. Nice try, Democrat.

You want me to forget about the Cook County sales tax increase too? It's not that much. How about my income tax increase this year? And if I want to buy beer I better do it before Sept 1st because that's when the tax on that will be going up. Hey, don't forget the tax on my phone bill. That went up a "little bit" last year. Oh hey! I forgot about the tax on gasoline. That's going up next year. And so's the tax on my electric bill because of Cap and Trade.

Next time I stand in line at the store behind the Mama who is paying with her Link card I'll think about how all those tiny little "insignificant" tax increases are so important.

IF CAP AND TRADE PASSES OUR ELECTRIC BILLS WILL DOUBLE,THANKS LIBERAL DUMBACRATS!GLOBEL WARMING MY ASS.

Think outside the box-

Let's assume some people on this blog don't work for the cps. Let's also assume property taxes will increase no more than the cost of a case of beer. And maybe the majority of people on this blog will be sending their children to a private school. I know my future in-laws sent all four of their children to private schools.

My point is, I would rather buy a case of beer or even a case of water instead of helping balance a budget for schools my children will never step foot in.

I think alot of people on this blog have earned the right to whine. In fact, can we raise your property taxes for, let's say, a price of gum. The increase can then go to me to pay for typing classes at the local community college. Why? because this typing s##t takes to long.

Have a nice weekend everyone.

People the problem is not the free lunches, it the teachers pensions. CPS has to come up with over 300 million dollars to fund the pension plan this year and over 500million next year. Wake UP!

Anonymous said...

The teacher pensions are not the problem. They pension fund has been robbed. When a teacher retires they have to pay $2400 per month for health insurance if they want to cover their spouse. That's the whole check. Teachers do not get medicare or social security unless they bought into it with a second job. They don't get the same deal as the police and fire dept.

Like I've said before. Walk down 111th by the AG School when the kids get out at 3pm. You'll be surprised how many of the vehicle stickers are from Dolton,Posen,Harvey,South Holland, Markham. If you do, take down the plate number and report it to the AG School principal. God knows he'll never "do the walk". That would mean he actually would have to come out of the school and see what his students do in the neighborhood after school. Maybe if he did, the local businesses would not have as much trouble with the kids as they do.
