Posting New Topics on This Board

If anyone is interested in posting a new topic on this board, please email me at
inandaround60655@yahoo.com with your post.

Send me your "bests" and I will put them to a poll if there are more than one in the neighborhood, such as grocery stores, videostores, ice cream parlors, best place for a hot dog, etc. Each week there will be a different poll. The winners will make the "best of 60655" list.

Thanks for everyone's support and for helping to get the word of the blog around.

Ace is overpriced and the worker are rude and ignorant go to Mount Greenwood hardware. Wash your dog at home and save your money. All the grocery stores are overpriced, but Fairplay on 111th has the best prices for lunch meat for everybody who has kids in school, just dont go around the first of the month. 111th and kedzie is the best place for an accident.

Believe it or not, the best place for lunchmeat is the liquor store next to Bourbon Street, $3.99 lb for Krakus and $3.99 lb american cheese. I like True Value on 111th Street. I agree with 111th and Kedzie as the best place for an accident as it seems like there is ALWAYS an accident there.

Because we all have different ideas what is the "best," I have done the poll to be unbiased. The winner of the week gets their name on the list (maybe a link?).

In the Ghost Town of 111th St. between Pulaski and Kedzie. A nice bakery like Naples, a liquor store cheap as Kenwood, a Dunkin' Donuts. There is money to be made here, too bad city taxes keep the good places away. We are pretty much all city workers, with a good income, let's get rid of this alderwomen who's priority is east of Western Ave. and bring some pride back to our community!!!!

Does anyone know of the origin's of the social club that moved into the space just east of La Fiesta?

I have nothing against these types of clubs and a majority of them are around for good reasons and do good work in the area.

Just wondering where this one cames from and what they are all about since they are in our area

The club next door to LaFiesta's is the Antler Dancer Social Club (ADSC), a men's social club for hunters and outdoorsmen. There are two more similar clubs on Kedzie. One across from BK and one south of currency exchange at 111th.

I agree with the comment that 111th looks like a ghosttown and needs some new businesses. However, I'd rethink the suggestion for a kenwood-like liquor store. Yes, prices are good, but we don't need that crowd here. Let it stay in oak lawn where they have the resources to address traffic overload, shoplifters and bust-outs flooding the place for cheaper courvasier and malt liquor. If we are going to lobby for a new look and new businesses, let's be smart in our choices. We're already surrounded by places that attract undesirables. Let's try to tune that up and improve our neighborhood!

Some new and viable businesses need to come into the area. With the waste land that is 111th & Kedzie and the soon to be vacant Unreal Florist we need some help.

Also with Ginger have a iron grip on the development in the Ward, what is up with the approval of the condo building across from the park? I have no problem with condos going up there but what is up with the approval of that design????? The could have been a million better looking designs available to go in there.

It would be interesting to hear what we, as people who live around here, would like to see over on 111th. What type of stores. Definitly not a liquor store. The last poster is right...too many bust outs. I thought the Starbucks was a great idea...maybe some other coffee/lunch/hang out place that's not a bar.

Best Chicken Salad in the world: County Fair's Deli-a scoop of this stuff on white toast is like a hug from Jesus, trust me
Best place for boys' haircuts: Cutrone's (Formerly 'John's) next to the firehouse on 111th & Whipple-It's the only place I take my little guys for cuts. You might have to wait a little while, but it’s so worth it.
Best place to get away from him & the kids for a few hours with the gals: La Fiesta-great mood, great food, and the platinum margaritas will have you up dancing & missing work the next day
Best optometrist: Dr. Brad Clodfelter-corner of 111th & Sawyer-Beautiful offices, knowledgeable, kind, and accommodating staff, minimal waiting time.
Best place for last-minute party food: S&T Deli 111th St. & Hamlin Your son/daughter wants a sleepover party for their birthday? S&T's individual pizza set-ups are much cheaper and (in my opinion) better tasting than most pizzeria fare. Slice & dice some toppings and set up a 'make your own pizza' table. It's fun for the kids and will keep them out of trouble for an hour or so. (Lock up the liquor cabinet!) Also, S&T's meatball mix is a thing to behold. We always have a couple of pounds in the freezer.
To the people of 60655-Peace, Health & Joy to you and your families this holiday season. Have fun and stay safe!
