Great Super bowl this year! The only thing I don't understand is why the last play of the game was not reviewed. The officials review plays all the time with under 2 minutes left in a game during the regular season. This is the Super bowl! Maybe the NFL wanted the Steelers to win.

i understand that the Catholic school in our area is asking people in the parishes to send money so the kids can stay in Catholic school.because the tuition is so high there is alway public school or get a second job

Anonymous said...

Maybe the priests who were bailed out by its parishners could get jobs and payback the money we had to give to settle the lawsuits.

Anonymous said...

There are many Catholic schools in the area, which one specifically are we talking about?

Anonymous said...

Do you think that the catholic schools are going to start basing your tutition on your households income and asking for copies of your W2 forms?

Anonymous said...

Do you mean that last TD? They did review that, over and over and over...maybe you were too drunk to notice???? LOL

Anonymous said...

went to catholic gs and hs. if i ever have children want the same. but i cant even imagine how much tuition will be in 10-15 years. are catholic school teachers making that much money? or are parents paying for lawsuits and lawyer fees for accused priest molesters?

The cost is going up and up becuase people send their kids to Cps brain washing camps, I mean schools instead. The enrollment is down and therefore better education, less kids in the class but higher prices. As well as gas and maint. prices ahve gone up.
I cant get over the dismay on here over the catholic schools?? I mean what would this neighborhood be without catholic people and the schools? They are the foundation of a great family neighborhood. Ask the old chicago folks that moved out to the burbs, they all say its nice but there is something missing. The church has sold off much of its millions of properties to pay off theose suits, its not your tuition thats paying them, get a clue.
Cps has a mission and it is to fill your kid with godless education. No f's allowed in there. A for efforts. No white male can be a principal anymore. Its an education fit to make new dummycrats, with much white guilt built into the studies. I would work ten jobs to avoid these dumping grounds. Even the mayor and his dad the mayor avoided them, the great leader and King Obama avoided them, learn from them.

6:11, 11:03, 11:15, 12:03 molested by a priest ???? maybe since you seem fixated with tearing down the the catholic institution you are reaching out for help ??? It is sad and tragic when these incidents occur ... truly tragic ... and I hope they get what ever they have coming to them ... But is Daley gonna give the tax payer money back for all the money lost by tax payers as a result of the Hired Truck Scam ... and all the other scandals well documented ... how about the public schools giving money back for not teaching kids how to read and write and promoting them as a result of the "No child left behind program" Of course not ... and of course I am being sarcastic about all of this ... the thing about all of this is we have choices, and we all have to make the right ones ... and teach our children to make the right ones too ... you have a choice ... don't like the Catholic schools ... send them to public ... don't wanna pay or donate to the Catholic church ... Don't ... raise your child as a Lutheran, Baptist, a Jew, or be an atheist ... you decide ...this is still America people ...

Anonymous said...

The tax payers never pay for lawsuits against any public school teachers. Let the priest thing go. We know it was wrong. Please don't use the catholic priest to justify the fact that you will not sacrifice any time or money to allow your child to attend a catholic school. You can find a wrong in anything if you want to find it.

wow!! i think i touched a nerve. i was asking a question not making a statement. i just hated to see several catholic schools close down on the southside because of the archdiocese always complaining about no money to keep these schools open. is it based on the finances of each parrish? schools like tommy moore and dennis really tried to raise money to keep them open but its always we dont have enough. it wont suprise me that chist the king will shut down in the next 10 years.

I hope this blog does not become another priest bashing site.

None of the Catholic schools in this area are asking for money to keep the schools open. They are all holding their own, some betters then others. There was an article in the paper this past weekend regarding loans/scholarships for Catholic schools. Looks like none of us are eligible, and most of the money will be going to the intercity Catholic schools. A lot of us can't AFFORD to send our kids to Catholic school, but we sacrifice and do it anyway, it's our choice. That's the great thing about America, we can be free thinkers and make our own choices. I don't knock your choices, don't knock mine.

Been a police officer thirty years
four as a youth officer. Not Catholic but sent my four kids to Catholic grade school and high school.

Why: never had a child sexually assaulted or gang banged like the eleven CPS females 7 to 14 that were raped on CPS grounds that I had to investigate. My heart still bleeds for the poor female students.

Never wanted my children to go through a metal detector after Ben Wilson basketball star was gunned down in 1984 on 103rd Street. In 2008 a student named Blair Holt was gunned down. How many Public school kids where killed last year. (35) When does it stop?

Guns,Gangs, violence. CVS was called Chicago Violence and Sex.

Also had two occasions to lock up a Catholic Priest. I blame the parents for letting the sons have to much contact with a man with out parental supervision.

I am grateful for St. Thomas Moore.
Provided great primary educations and thankfully my children are all successful today.

I consider myself a LutherCatholic.
Peace of mind is well worth it, we can replace property but we cannot replace a life or a psychological injury.

I only wish sucess to the public schools and hope one day we can use them but my grand children living in Chicago will always attend a Catholic school.

This is why the Catholic bashing occurs! "The fact that you will not sacrifice any time or money to attend a catholic school" NOT EVERYONE IS CATHOLIC! You think you are sacrificing for your kids to get a better education but in reality you trying to buy self perceived status of having a child in a private school. You feel that if you pay for an education, it must be better. For those of you who chose to send your kids to Catholic School because you honestly believe in combining education and religion, I do not fault you. That is your private choice. For the others who have the perception that peole who choose to go to public schools in Mount Greenwood are less of a parent, you obviously did not get a good religious education. Are you of a religion that looks down on others who are not of your religion?

Well said. I am Catholic but some of the things you mentioned are reasons why my children will attend a Catholic school. There is so much more parent involvement at the catholic schools.

i dont know if i started this or not but first thing is i'm not a priest or catholic basher. in 12 years of catholic school i have met some outstanding priests and christian brothers who have really made a difference in our society. but as members of religious organization we do have the right to ask questions regarding the church that effect us. there is a difference between a devout catholic and naive one.

I doubt the public grammar schools in Mount Greenwood ever had a rape case. Does anyone remember Kappas or Cappas incident at Marist or the gambling rings broken up in the Catholic H.S.'s? Every school has it's problems. I know quite a few girls from the Catholic schools who ended up pregnant in H.S. Drinking, drugs and cigarettes were all available in my Catholic High School. This "better than thou" attitude from the parents and the kids who attend these Catholic schools is really getting old. You can't "buy" a better kid.

February 3, 2009 7:31 AM, February 3, 2009 1:08 PM

Do you two live in a cave .... the reason alot of kids end up as druggies, pregnant at 15, 16 are because the parents think that once the child hits 13, they are old enough to start thinking for themselves and do not want "hamper their indepence" A LOT of parents I know do not question kids about their friends, their whereabouts, because "they do not want their child to rebel", wake up .... for you public school parents who want to bash the catholic schools in the are area ... shame on you ... two reasons you do this !!! 1. you can not afford to send your child, children there, so your recourse is to bash the catholic school ... 2. You are just plain jealous ... so you try and justify your inablity to send your child there, so you bash the school ... and one more thing having said that ... Mt. Greenwood is a damn fine school as well as the other public schools in the area ... check their rankings against the other schools in the city and the state ... and see how they stack up ... If I had it to do all over I probably would have sent my kids there and to CCD at St. Christina ... as it happened I did send mine to St. Christina and was overall satisfied with the results ... although there were a few wacky teachers, but then that is the case no matter what school you send your kids to ... you are the same cry baby parents who bitch about Keller and you can not send your kid there because of the "racial quota", The same thing is said for the Ag. school ... You know who you are ... you complain that you would not send your kid there because there are too many of "them" there. So you send your kids to the Catholic Schools ... because "the Ones" that go there must be "OK" because they pay to go there ... you make me laugh with your petty fears and racist attitude ... you try to justify your insecurities by always blaming some one else ... also if this peaks your curiosity ... Catholic schools also do not have to post their scores and rankings compared to the public schools because they are private. Brother Rice also touts itself as one of the top 50 Catholic HIgh schools every year. Thazt is based on a survey they participate in with those the other schools who participate. Marist, McCauley, St. Ignatiius, and other schools do not participate, so as a result they are not ranked ... for the record my son is a Crusader ...

The public grammar schools are good in the area but you have to go to a Catholic high school. Christina /martys aren't any better than Mt. Greenwood /Clissold but the big differance is in high school. No matter where you send your children what is most important is that you are involved and aware of what is going on at the school and with your child.

Dear Blogger, I have tried several times to bring to you and your readers attention the problem with Mt. Greenwood Park and dog walkers that refuse to clean up after their animals and refuse to leash them and my comments are never posted, but you do post racial comments. It leads me to believe you are one of these dog offenders who believe that your dog is more important than the health of kids that play there. I love dogs and they have a place in the park, on a leash and the owner with a bag! A very simple solution to a very smelly problem. I hope you read this and I'm sure this won't be posted either..

It is posted and as far as I can see from looking back at past post comments that I have received, I have posted all comments regarding your issues re the dogs and Mt. Greenwood park. Maybe some of your comments never went through because I didn't receive them? As you are anonymous I cannot tell for sure if they were your comments or not. If you don't see a comment, email me and ask me why.

As for me being one of the offenders, no, I am not. My dog's have a large backyard to play in and go to the bathroom in. If I take my dog for a walk on a leash its either on the city streets or up north at the doggie park (and I always bring a baggie)!

So what is up with Central Park? You have to have 4WD to get down this street from 103rd to 111th. How is it south of 111th? Any other very bad streets in the area? Let's here about them. Could the company supplying the road material be using inferior material to cut cost and make a few extra bucks or are they just creating their own job security?

Offseason Blues

by Steve Pellikaan ©

It's cold outside. The wind is harsh.
There's snow upon the ground.
You put on your coat, your gloves, your hat,
And go toss the football around.

It's just not the same, though. The session is brief.
In no time, you've gone back inside.
You turn on the TV, or get on the net,
In search of any news they can provide.

You look at the calendar and shake your head.
The time is surely not short.
You count up the months, the days, the hours,
Until pitchers and catchers report.

You dream of Spring with the grass so green,
And the temperature on the rise,
When the fortunate few get together again,
To seek that ultimate prize.

The holidays come and go. Your family takes pride,
In the dinners over which they strove.
While the turkey is cooking, a smile hits your face.
You're reminded of another "hot stove".

The talk of free agents and trades being made
Gives you hope for the upcoming year.
You dream of the slugger, the pitcher, the coach
That this year you'll get to cheer.

So, during this winter, when you're thinking of baseball,
And it makes you want to groan.
Cheer up. Fans like us can take solace
In knowing we aren't alone.

I was surpised to see so many people vote against the Olympics being held here. Just think of what a great opportunity this would be for everyone including our children and grandchildren. I know that I will never have the chance to see the Olympics except for on tv unless they are held here in Chicago. This would be a great plus for our economy and a great way to get our city cleaned up. Employment opportunities and more police out on patrol. How great that would be.
