Days gone by - Southside Irish Parade

I was sent this video of the 1958 Southside Irish Parade..(79th Street).

As you will notice...there were floats, yes, actual floats. People standing on the curb waiving their hands, not their cups overflowing with beer. No fights breaking out.

It looks like the actual Mayor of Chicago (Daley, Sr.) actually had enough pride in his Irish heritage to show up.

WOW... take a peek at the good old days.

Thats when Americans had pride, class and grace. America is lacking in the dignity it once demanded. Thanks for the vidoe.

If the parade continues it will only get worse. Fewer families are going and more drunks are taking their place. Just so some bars and liquor stores can make a buck? Even 7-11 at 103 and Artesian was selling single beers with a free cup, and the store. That says it all.

Some tradition.

Did they say everyday is Paddy's day and everyone's a guest... So long Moe's, I'm going to Western Ave. and I'm taking Barney, Lenny and Carl with me. WooHoo.
