You must be from another state, the media in Chicago doesnt care what white folks do to each other. There has to be a minority victim to make the news

Moe Berg was born on Sunday, March 2, 1902, in New York, New York. Berg was 21 years old when he broke into the big leagues on June 27, 1923
Moe Berg played for the Chicago White Sox from 1926 until 1930.

Berg was a catcher and coach in Major League Baseball who later served as a spy for the Office of Strategic Services during World War II. Although he played 15 seasons in the major leagues, almost entirely for four American League teams, Berg was never more than an average player, usually used as a backup catcher, and was better known for being "the brainiest guy in baseball" than for anything he accomplished in the game. Casey Stengel once described Berg as "the strangest man ever to play baseball".
A graduate of Princeton University and Columbia Law School, Berg spoke several languages and regularly read 10 newspapers a day. His reputation was fueled by his successful appearances as a contestant on the radio quiz show Information, Please! in which he answered questions about the derivation of words and names from Greek and Latin, historical events in Europe and the Far East, and ongoing international conferences.

As a spy working for the government of the United States, Berg traveled to Yugoslavia to gather intelligence on resistance groups the U.S. government was considering supporting. He was then sent on a mission to Italy, where he interviewed various physicists concerning the German nuclear program. After the war, Berg was occasionally employed by the OSS's successor, the Central Intelligence Agency, but, by the mid-1950s, was unemployed. He spent the last two decades of his life without work, living with various siblings.

Since this is an open Post does anyone on here have children in Mt Greenwood Grade School? The reason I ask is that my children go to the local Catholic School and, quite honestly, the level of teaching has degraded over the past couple of years. For what I am paying I feel I am not getting my moneys worth anymore. We sit with our kids and do homework with them and what they are learning seems to be below their grade level. When we try and contact someone at the school to talk we are blown off.

I am interested to see how parents feel about Mt Greenwood School.

Thank you.

What does "godless" information mean? I'm not catholic...so if I send my kids to a public school are they not God's children? They are less loved by God than your children are? Wow...such a concept!

I can't vouch for Mt. Greenwood school, but my kids go to Cassell seeing we live south of 111th. I am more than pleased with my sons performance, reading and math skills. I send both of my boys to CCD because it sure beats the overpriced tuition when I end up only paying 150 for the religion class.

Dangerous topic on this blog, but have 2 over at Mt. Greenwood and am very happy. There's good & bad teachers everywhere, whether you're paying a lot or not, but money aside, am very happy with the teachers so far, and the principal....

As the Catholic v. Public topic has been argued to death, let's drop it. The person who posted the comment regarding Mt. Greenwood school only wants to know how the school is, not what a terrible person he/she is for not going with a Catholic education. If they are Catholic, I am sure they will still enroll their children in CCD. I have kids in a Catholic school (high school and grammar) and if my son wasn't going into 8 grade next year, I would probably put him public school too (like a lot of the kids that transferred out of Catholic this year as they just can't afford it). The tuition between both schools is like a mortgage payment and is killing me in this economy. I am so sick of hearing people put down parents for wanting their kids to go to public school. Like they are the worse parents in the world. Mt. Greenwood, Sutherland, Clissold and Cassell are probably some of the best public schools in the City and their "report cards" show that their students place high in testing. Give the public school parents a break.

Why? I think they need to eat lunch at the home. Thats why our country is lost we have a brainwashing of the kids that they are the end all, they feel they rule there is no higher power.
I think they should learn about MLk at home too. I think they should learn about spanish at home.

If you are not catholic then what are you wooried about?? If think there Gods children then they are. If they are not baptised into the church then they are not Gods children wehn they are judged. Thats what catholic law says. If you dont believe then whya re you talking about it all?

I think its aways the Public school people bringing up this issue. I mean to each his own. If you are not into the catholic school thing then dont do it. But to say that the catholic school is some how under educated the kids is wrong . Check the websites of St.Rita nd Ignatius as well as Bro. Rice etc. the senoir scholarships are listed and the grammar schools are also listed of the scholarship winners, 70 percent are catholic grammar schools many from our ward.
We have many great schools in this ward catholic and Cps, end of story. As far as Gods Children, whatever "your" God says is good for your kids.

Godless means just that: without God. When you enroll in & pay for a Catholic Education, your children are taught the ways of your faith as part of the curriculum. When you opt for public school, you are opting out of the teaching of faith & morality as it pertains to your beliefs in a school setting. Where did anyone, but you, say your children were not children of God? If you choose not to send your children to private Catholic or whatever faith you are, then you are choosing a Godless education for children. Not sure why you took such offense to the poster's statement.

OK class time for "Math through Gods eyes" give me a break! Who has been brainwashed? Sounds a bit like an extremist religion " those who are not baptised are not God's children and will be judged....." I don't know what kind of Catholic you are but I'm embarrassed that you think you are one of us. Where in the bible does it state that one has to go to a Catholic school to be a good Catholic? Um...no where! This was a insane manmade rule to religion. God loves us all Catholic, Muslim,Baptist,Atheist etc....It is not our place to judge or place judgement on others.

Call me what you will. Go ask your priest if a person ,"not baptized" will get into what we call, heaven. Ask the priest what the church says. I am not saying it, the church and the pope say it. Maybe at some point they will enter but nor right away. Why is that so hard for you to understand? It a sacrament, the one that invites you to Gods church and God. This is first grade stuff here. As far as catholic schools go thats your option send or dont , I dont care what you do, really I dont. You can think or believe what you want its America! "All Gods children" I agree. Just last year I facedthe same decision. I took my kids out of SC and went to Mt Greenwood. I am happy with the choice so far. SC has a much better athletic program and more parent involvment. I to was unhappy with the actual teaching there and am very pleased with Mt Greenwood. The education is very good the teachers are good and you can talk to them. The atheletic program is small but growing and more and more parents are starting to get involved. Mt Greenwood school is turning into a nieghborhood gem I just pray it stays that way. I would suggest going and getting a tour of the school and talking to the principal Ms Reidy.

just wondering why a comment regarding important iformation regarding neighborhood kids who go to the Agg. school is deleted but goof with the baseball posts is up here all the time. I think its important for parents to know whats going on at the school their children may attend. Kids selling and buying marijuana brownies in our neighborhood to our neighborhood kids seems more important then how many days to opening day.

Above you will see your comment. The reason it wasn't posted right away is that I was trying to verify it before I started "freaking" people out or accused of putting up false stories like in the past. Sorry for the delay.

Fiction: Marijuana laced brownies being sold by Ag kids to kids in Mt. Greenwood.

Truth: Ag.student found selling marijuana in school and immediately expelled.

Drugs are a problem in all of our high schools, whether they are public or private, and thank goodness that the principals and teachers in our area are very proactive and will not tolerate it.

Pot brownies being sold at the ag school is true!

If anyone cares to try and verify look on the CPD public page which will show arrests. It will not give exact location but will say something like 38XX 111th and give the crime.

For those who care, posts about crimes in the area are done by people in the know but for reasons, like their jobs, they can not say I am a PO an I know this information.

I live in the area why the hell would I try to scare you with false inforamation about crime? I would only do it to make you aware of things so people know what is going on and what is being hidden or not reported!!!

When was the last time you say a police blotter in the Daily Southtown? Gee I wonder why? Do you really think crime is not happening here?

The problem with the CPD public page is that it is always a week or two behind (right now it is updated through 2/26). Yes, if a PO wrote on here that it was true, well they would knew a heck of a lot faster then the average joe. IS there a cop out there that can verify this? One poster (a cop maybe) said that a student was arrest for selling the actual stuff, not baked goods...

There was nothing about the incident yet on the CPD website, but here's what was listed in our area...2211 and 2212

Retail theft at 7-11 on 103rd, theft at Mt. Greenwood park >$300, retail theft at Jewel on 103rd, retail theft at Walgreens, Robbery from school at 10000 S. Pulaski (Brother Rice?), Robbery with handgun at 10900 and Hoyne.... Nothing on pot brownies or pot altogether.

Since it was a student at the ag school, do you think they grew it themselves? They do learn hydroponics you know!!! (My attempt at humor)

Anonymous said...

Brownie story is true, I have a kid at the Ag. The kids were arrested as many students turned this person in and let the school know what was going on. The school followed proper channels and got all involved. Air tight case. I went to school during the (K?)Cappas scandal at Marist. Every H.S has it problems. Many of my friends at McAuley followed the Greatful Dead "traditions". How many of us catholic H.S kids knew where to get alcohol for the St Patrick's Day parade? Keggers in the cemetary...... It comes down to parenting not a high school.

inandaround60655 said...

There you go...Ag School story is true. They are right though, every school does have a few bad apples.

I think the issue of schools comes up quite often because many struggle with the decision. I myself had struggled with this and after hearing many good things, decided to pull my kids from SC and give Mount Greenwood a try. I am very happy we made the choice. I had no ill feelings or problems with SC, and the kids do atend CCD there.
I think the curriculum is very good at the public school, the athletics is growing and could be better with more involvement. Many have made a seamless transition and as more do, good thins will happen.
From seeing both sides of things, I really feel that it's the parenting that will affect whether or not the kids make wise choices. I've encountered many ill behaved kids at the park and they are not just the "public school" kids.

Taking a tour of the school and meeting the Principal was definately helpful in making our decision.
Good Luck to you!

Haven't we hashed out the Catholic v Public thing long enough. Mine are catholic school. I have to tell you when I was at the park with my kids a bunch of Ag school kids were goofing around and knocked my son over by mistake. They stopped, apologized, and helped pick him back up.

Today, on my way to pick up my kid from school some little puppy got out of the yard and was being chased by its owner, it obviously had gotten out. About 6 care stopped to help the lady and get the dog. WE ARE A NEIGHBORHOOD, lets let GOD do the judging PLEASE

hi all...
i was at mt. greenwood park today with my 3 and 4 year old. there were many teenagers up at the park on bikes as well as skateboards. the teenagers were riding their skateboards down the hills in the park and nearly took out a couple of little ones in the process. i told the teenagers to leave and of course i got lip from them. us adults have to keep on these teenagers or the park is going to go to crap. if you see kids riding their bikes, skateboards, monopolizing the swings .... etc....we as adults must tell them to leave or you will call the police. once the teenagers see that their nonsense will not be tolerated they will go somewhere else. the one kid told me he had every right to ride his skateboard in the playground because he paid for the playground...i really wanted to belt him ... but instead i stood my ground until he left. at the age of 44 i'm not going to be bullied by a 13 year old! i really hope other parents step up to the plate when they see this stuff happening!

thanks!

I think the question is, can your children get a good education in the public schools? The answer will always depend on your child and how much you are willing to help them succeed. Another thought is if you cannot afford to send your kids to private schools, then don't worry about what the debates or majority rules of this neighborhood; you need to do what's right for your family!!! God will not judge you whether you send your kids to Catholic or Public School, only if you were able to feed your family and love your family and take your family to church on Sunday. You can always read to your children and play math games like shopping with your children and leave everything else to fate. Good luck in your decisions as they are yours alone and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.
