Attempted Child Abduction

Chicago police have issued a community alert after a man in a car attempted to abduct a 17-year-old girl in the Far South Side's Mount Greenwood neighborhood over the weekend.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, the girl was riding her bike in the 3800 block of West 101st Street when a man driving a red car offered her a ride, according to police.

The girl continued peddling until the man cut her off with his car and grabbed her. The girl fought with him until he released her and fled from the area.

The man is described as a white male, about 30 years old, 5-foot-11 and between 180 to 200 pounds, balding, wearing a t-shirt, blue jeans and gym shoes. He was driving a red 4-door, small vehicle.

If anyone has information concerning this incident, they are asked to call Calumet Area detectives, (312)747-8271.

What is a 17yo girl doing riding her bike at 1:30 in the morning? Where were her parents?

Thank God nothing happened to this girl.

Summer is just beginning, kids need to be looked after, especially in these times.

i don't know...sounds kinda fishy to me...sort of like the palos park incident with the restaurant...what do you think?

Sounds like the girl was late coming home and needed a story. I'm not trying to be cynical. I'm being logical. Nevertheless, watch your kids and teach them how to kick someone in the nuts.

Regardless if it's fishy or not people, this is a wake up call that this stuff happens and yes, even in 60655! 20 years ago the same thing happened to me riding my bicycle at 10 p.m. in the middle of a lit up well traveled street in 60655. The guy was never caught. This is awareness so that parents don't lose sight that this stuff happens and it could be their kid one day. Especially with the economy as bad as it is, people get desperate and crime sky rockets! Know where your kids are, set curfews and NEVER let them walk/ride a bike home alone. Get up and drive the 6 blocks to pick them up and make sure they are home safe.

Sort of like calling the area west of Central Park and south of 111th,
Mount Greenwood Heights. Where did that come from?

On May 20th a juvenile was arrested and charged simple assault following an altercation on the 10600 block of south whipple at 2 pm. police said. The victim relayed to the police that two offenders were arrested a day earlier and came back to retaliate, police said. the offender stated, " We are going to shoot you and shoot up this block." Cass Hood,34, of the 10800 block of southof Whipple, was also areested and charged with obstructing the police in performance of duties, police said. He attempted to stop police from arresting the juvenile, police said. From Police Blotter of the Beverly Review. These "people" need to leave our neighborhood now. We cannot feel that our kids are safe until they are gone.I know if they try to come to my house they will be greeted with my glock 17. I'll gladly use it.

I still like bugging Beverly by calling it East Mt Greenwood.

Isn't there some type of ordinance that if a renter of Sec 8 origin is arrested, the Sec 8 lease can be negated?? If so, why are these mutts still here?

tO: This is a program that I am entitled to as a resident and taxpayer living in the city of Chicago. Now I've been informed that next fall, the city is not going to allow non-CPS students to get such vital services.

WTF?!!! So I'm getting double screwed now? I pay taxes so that pieces of crap who don't care about education can attend CPS schools.

I LIVE IN 60655 , AM CONFIDENT IN MT. GREENWOOD ( A CPS SCHOOL) AND MY KIDS GO THERE...I CARE ABOUT EDUCATION, AM NOT A PIECE OF CRAP ( AM WHITE AND A CITY WORKER IF THAT MATTERS)....VERY HAPPY WITH THE SCHOOL & THE PROGRAMS FOR THE KIDS THAT GO THERE ....THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF DEBATE ABOUT CPS V. PRIVATE ON THIS BLOG, BUT EVERYONE KNOWS THAT IF YOU HAVE A SPECIAL NEEDS KID, A PRIVATE (MOSTLY CATHOLIC) SCHOOL WILL NOT CATER TO THEIR NEEDS (DESPITE ALL THE $$$$ YOU PAY)... IF IT;S THAT VITAL..EITHER SEND THEM TO MT. GREENWOOD, AND GET THE SERVICES NEEDED OR PAY FOR PRIVATE VITAL SERVICES...YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO ANYTHING...GET OVER THE CPS STIGMA..YOU MADE A CHOICE...LIVE WITH IT..

Sorry screamer with the caps on, as tax payers WE are entitled to CPS services, we pay taxes, we receive services!! And you know damn well that the original poster was not referring to you and your children attending Mt. Greenwood School, rather the Julian, Bogan, inner city students, so get off your indignant horse your riding.
She does not have to transfer her kid to a public school to be entitled to the services offered, she already pays for those services!

And you know damn well that the original poster was not referring to you and your children attending Mt. CAPS ON :I KNOW DAWN WELL THAT THE ORIGINAL POSTER DID SAY THE CHILD WAS RECEIVING SERVICES AT MT. GREENWOOD, AND NEXT FALL THAT HER CHILD WOULD NOT GET THESE SERVICES AT MT. GREENWOOD ( A CPS SCHOOL), SO WHAT PIECES OF CRAP IS THE ORIGINAL POSTER REFERRING TO? WHAT DOES BOGAN, JULIAN ETC. HAVE TO DO WITH THE CHILD? THE KID IS NOT BEING CUT FROM THOSE SCHOOLS. WE ALL PAY TAXES AND ALL FEEL WE SHOULD BE "ENTITLED" TO PROGRAMS WE ALREADY PAY FOR, SO WE ARE ALL ON EVEN GROUND ON THAT ISSUE. NOW THAT BEING EQUAL, THERE'S ONLY A FINITE AMOUNT OF SPACE FOR THESE PROGRAMS, SO THE QUESTION BECOMES, WHO SHOULD GET THEM FIRST...THE KIDS THAT ACTUALLY ATTEN MT. GREENWOOD OR THE ONES WHO GO TO SCHOOL IN THE SUBURBS...HUM, LET ME SEE..I SAY THE KIDS THAT ACTUALLY ARE ENROLLED GET 1ST CRACK IF NEEDED,,THEN IF THERE'S ANY ROOM, WE TAKE NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS...SOUNDS FAIR...NOT A SCREAMER, NOT ON A HORSE...NOT INDIGANT...THE SCHOOL IS ALREADY OVERCROWDED AND PROGRAMS ARE BEING CUT..NOW I WILL AGREE THAT WE NEED EXPANDED PROGRAMS AT MT. GREENWOOD SO WE COULD ALL BENEFIT OR HELL, EVEN A NEW SCHOOL, BUT THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN ...UNTIL THEN, WE LIVE WITH THE CHOICES WE MAKE....THE ORIGINAL POSTER ALSO SAID THEY SEND THIR KID TO PRIVATE SCHOOL BECAUSE CPS SCHOOLS ARE TERRIBLE...SO THEY ARE SAYING MT. GREENWOOD IS NOT TO THEIR LIKING,9AND THAT'S FINE - WE ALL HAVE OPINIONS) OH EXCEPT FOR THE SERVICE THIER PRIVATE SCHOOL DOES NOT OFFER....I GUESS THEY'RE NOT TO TERRIBLE FOR A CPS SCHOOL....and by the way, how do you know it was a "she" that posted the comment? Just wondering (in small print)...??

...................................If you pasted the rest of my post it would include that parents need to set curfews. 1:30 in the morning at 17 is rediculous, but it happened to me at 10 p.m. It doesn't matter what time it is! Whether the incident really happened or not is not the point...my point is that it CAN and as parents we are responsible! If my kid got hit at 1:30 a.m. and it was because of my carelessness, I would blame myself and never forgive myself. I'm not saying the perp is innocent, but the law can deal with that.

hi people...

i have 2 little ones...still in pre-k...but i have to tell you...i'm afraid what the price of brother rice, marist, rita etc...will be when it is time for my kids to go to high school.

the cost is out of control! i don't know how these parents do it. i do know no one can afford to pay this tuition...but they do it anyway. we really need to rally together and get some answers about why our kids are being turned down at the ag school.

the school is a fantastic one. and for every neighborhood kid that does not go there...a non neighborhood kid does.

i know for a fact that a kid that lives 8 houses away from the ag school got denied...so it is bull shit that if a neighborhood kid wants to go there they can...not true...they are on a lottery basis..kids from bridgeport are going to the ag but a kid that lives across the street can't...that is pretty f-up!

we should rally together...i know there are lawyers that live in this neighborhood and they can give their time and fight to get their so called lottery system over-turned...the only way cps ever listens ... is if people lawyer up! in 10 years from now these private schools are going to be more than our mortgages. then we will all be screwed.

yes. i know all about the scum that goes to the ag...but if we fight to get it a neighborhood school ... use and treat it as such...there will be less room for the scum...

there are scum in every high school...have you ever driven past brother rice when the kids are getting out of school...you'd swear you were in the leauge of nations...same with mcauley, marist, and rita. we are paying big bucks...no...huge bucks for that...if we can get them out of the ag...we would have a great school..and will be putting our tax dollars to good use!

lets pull together and fight...call the media..news papers...lawyers...

there are 2 new schools that i know of going up in the next year or two...they are at 55 and st. louis and in the backyard of nabisco. tell cps..let the scumbags go there to the new highschools and give us our ag school!

Um, what is wrong with a League of Nations? Hello, you live in America, the "melting pot". Your ancestors came here from another country and so did everyone elses that you know. Unless you are American Indian or Hispanic,(the first occupants of America before Europeans drove them off their land), or unless your relatives were shackled and dragged here in the bowels of a feces infested ship you are the descendant of IMMIGRANTS! The League of Nations!Embrace life and all it's interesting differences, embrace the world, embrace diversity or pack it up and go back to what ever country your ancestors came from or better yet go to an island and start your own single nationality commune. I bet you can't do that! I bet your mixed, your husbands mixed and your kids are already mixed!

I love a League of nations:
Apparently you have an issue with people on this blog enjoying their current negighborhood and wanting to keep it . There are many League of Nations neighborhoods in this city that you can enjoy. Don't presume to tell us how to live and think. We are entitled to want to convert the school into one that OUR children can attend rather than non neighborhood students.

OK, so who is "US" and who is "OUR". Who is included in your little group and who is excluded? OK, so I figure your excluding black people, what about mixed race people? What % of white does one need to be? How about Hispanics, Jews, Asians? Have "you all" formed a committee and decided who is part of the "neighborhood" and who is not? Is there a report? Is it published or posted at the perimeters? Will there be blood testing? DNA? Do you hear your self? You can't possibly think you can maintain this line of commentary in an intelligent world? Maybe I live in your world and I don't agree with you? Who are you to say how things should be? Look around you, the world is moving, people are progressing not regressing. Holding on to the past and "the way things used to be" is like holding on to a twig in a hurricane. You are eventually going to get blown away. In regard to the AG school, fine, try to convert it into a school that is more reflective of the make up of the neighborhood,(that would be the 19th ward, no public high school is reflective of a couple square miles around it). Maybe you should talk to the committee that was formed to accomplish that at Morgan Park HS. They are taking steps and making accomplishments to do just that. Contact BAPA and get their contact info. Maybe they can give you some advice. Do something and do it intelligently, don't just b---h about it. P.S. I love you to!

I'm new to this blogging thing, but I thought I'd give everyone an FYI that 2 garages were broken into last night (Sunday, 6/7) around 109th & Trumbull. Thought you'd like to know.

Sorry Mixer, get off your high horse. Because I disagree with you I am not intelligent and cannot carry on an intelligent conversation? Remember you are the one who has now resorted to insulting posters to this blog. I hate to burst your pompous little bubble, but you are a troll, a race baiter. The Ag school should be a NEIGHBORHOOD school, not a 19th ward school, there is Morgan Park for the eastern part of the ward.
Apparently you dislike this neighborhood and the vast majority of those who live here. You are very welcome to join your big moving world and live happily ever after in Lincoln park, Hyde Park, South Holland, Glenwood, Lynwood, etc.
And thanks, but no thanks, I don't need your love!

MIXER said...

I don't need to race bait. You set yourselves up with your ridiculous, backward comments then those of us that disagree are just supposed to sit back and not respond? It's funny, for people who don't like black people, you all sure talk about them alot and want to blame everything on them. Tell me, where does a "public high school" exist that only pulls students from a 10 block radius of the school? How is that serving the "community"? Sounds to me like you want a "private school".

MIXER said...

FYI, I was just sitting next to a very nice black family at the park today and as we were talking they mentioned to me that they were told to stay out of Barnard Park,(105th and Longwood) because the police told them there were just some gunshots there. They also said that when their young son and older brother went to Longwood Foods on 111th St a few days ago, early in the evening, that a man came up to them and asked them to help him "find his lost cat". The children got away and they reported it to 911. They were concerned because they just moved here from Texas and didn't feel they had to have these concerns as much there. These types of things happen to everyone in the neighborhood, and all decent people are concerned. It's wrong that this stuff is happening to everyone in our neighborhood.
