Just an FYI - the dog bite issue has played itself out. It has become a personal attack of neighbors in a public forum. Please, no more comments regarding this issue. Knock on your neighbor's door and talk to them in person.

I was walking by where the crescendo music used to be and was suprised to find an enormous bush growing by the sidewalk there. looking at it closer I noticed it was an out of control Maple tree. All it needs is some trimming and it would be real nice. Hope they work it into the new mall, if it don't die of old age by then. Just thought that was kind of strange because I can't figure out where it came from if the buildings were standing there less than two years ago.

Let's keep track of how many times the west end of Mount Greenwood loses power this summer.

Didn't we hear Ginger a while back grandstanding on how she was going to take ComEd to task on all the power outages we have?

You can bet they haven't lost power in North Beverly where Queen Ginger lives.

I don't mean to beat this dead horse, and could not comment on the post that you want, but please listen, File a FOIA if you think I'm wrong and dispute me.

Last month there were 4 arrests connected to and/or involving 10819-10822 S. Whipple., Within a 12 hour period. An on duty Police Sgt.in full uniform was bitten by one of these fine residents.

Another subject approached people on the next block the next day and stated that they were taking over the block, and that they would light it up that night.

You will not see this in the times or southtown.

The MSM only tells one side of the story.

Has anyone else come across the young lady with the wind chimes wandering around the neighborhood telling folks "Jesus loves you"?
Fine if she is just spreading the good news but honestly, the city cynic in me wondered if I was being distracted by her while an accomplice was rifling thru my house.

Took my kids to MGP pool... uggghh. While I was waiting for the girls to come out of the locker room, the tall gray haired guy with the glasses locked the back entrance to the park, and opened the side gate to the pool to allow people out, seemed reasonable. Less than 5 minutes later here he comes through the girls locker room taking out a big bag of garbage, like it was from the front office. Yes there were girls in there changing. I didn't know what to say, I grabbed my kids and got out of there. Will pay to go to a burb pool...don't let your girls change, or go to the locker room at the pool.

Just out of curiousity, how do we know for a fact that 10819-10822 are Section 8. One poster mentioned this address range. These homes are across from each other. Are we just assumming they receive federal funds? Trust me, not starting a race thing here cause I'm tired of it too and glad to see they get there own thread. But curious as to what is factual. Anyone know for sure?

inandaround60655 said...

Good question. We do know for a fact that one family was placed in their home temporarily by their insurance company (that was the family in the paper). The other family, I don't have the answer to that one, whether they are just renters or actually Section 8.

Just an f/y/i in case it hasn't been mentioned already. Went to the ward office on Western Ave. on Wednesday to get 2 city stickers, one of which is for a pick-up truck. I found out you will now need to display a special permit in order to park a pick-up truck or van on the street in front of your home. The sticker is free, as of now. One of the workers in the office mentioned they will start giving out tickets if you do not have this special permit displayed. Apparently, it has been an ordinance and they will now start enforcing it.

Just FYI, that's probably in relation to parking a truck on a residential street. If you have B-Truck plates on your pickup, you technically are in violation of a long existing city ordinance. Therefore, you need the "special" permit to park it on the residential street. Maybe they will begin enforcing it now because they're looking for money and they know what neighborhoods to hit with tickets to generate revenue. Does this sound accurate to you? Does your pick up have a "b truck" plate on it?

i believe thats if you have the B-truck plates.. get some other plates..wildlife/f.f./p.v./ r.v. and you wont have to worry bout that. technically you were never allowed to park pickups with b plates before

I rec'd the following e-mail from a Morgan Park resident today and thought I should share it with all my neighbors. I hope this will open a few peoples eyes as to what our media outlets are like today and what is REALLY going on around us. Don't believe everything you read!........Thanks
***************************************

Hi Jim,
I am also frustrated, as many are around Beverly with the local media, such as the Southtown Star. Last week they headlined a story about a black mom getting her garage marked with racial graffiti. Other garages (Whites) got hit by these vandals as well, but the media focused on the one black family. They ran and ran this story for a week.

Meanwhile, a young man that I coached in grade school, now older and studying for the Air Force Officer School, was driving home from his grandmothers last week at around 1:00 am. He was at 71st and Western when a couple black thugs ran out in front of his car as he was approaching a red light. One of them faked being hit by jumping across the hood of his car. Fearing he might have hit this punk, he stopped. The rest of their group then emerged from hiding and attacked him. They beat him to the point of leaving him for dead. He was hospitalized with a broken nose, staples across his head, both eyes closed, and too many bruises across his body to count. They stole his car, his wallet and his phone. These thugs, were continually calling him by racial names throughout this beating.

Yet, not one word in the media. This kids father contacted the press but nothing. The Star continued to write about the racial attack by graffiti (where nobody got physically hurt), but nothing about the vicious hate crime committed on Western Avenue. Our community is sickened by this reaction (or non-reaction) by the media. I sat in Kennedy Park for two little league baseball games and just listened to the outrage by the neighbors. Enough is enough. We need balance in the media. If not, we need an alternative source to get a balanced press.

Talking about the city sticker issue and the city needing the money. They could start with enforcing the goofing driving being done in and around 60655. No one stops at stop signs, 103rd st. with drivers using the suicide lanes near every stoplite. 103rd maplewood, 103rd california. I know the police are busy but can't they do something before some child/adult gets killed. Especially during the school year and this happens up and down 103rd not just the two corners I mentioned. 103rd is only 2lanes not 3. I'm sure you have witnessed drivers not stopping at stop signs near you houses.

Anonymous said...

I will say that the stop sign issue has been a problem for awhile. It has gotten so bad by me that now, blowing the stop sign, AND trying to drive around a stopped school bus is the problem. This has happened three times by the same person...and she stops every time (after I yell at her) and says "Oh, I'm sorry". WTF!! She has temp license plates that are taped to her back window. I am not sure if she lives around here, but it happens every morning at 6:45am...
To all the others who fly down Sacramento, if u don't have a siren on your vehicle, then there is NO reason why you should be driving like fools and blowing stop signs, they are there for a reason. I hate to say it, but some officers have been seen rolling thru the stop signs too...

I brought up this issue at one of these traffic study meetings that Ginger Rugai had a few years ago. It was laughable hearing all their dumb ideas about how to "Calm" traffic in Mt. Greenwood. They had all these stupid ideas like the stupid traffic circles, the even more stupider speed bumps and the ever so convenient one way streets. So when I got a chance to say something I suggested that maybe they should have the police do something radical like maybe write some traffic citations. all these goofs looked at me as though I was nuts! Why the heck do you think people drive like they do around here? Duh, it's not rocket science, the police do not write tickets. People don't drive like they do in Mt. Greenwood in Oak Lawn, Evergreen park or Merrionette park. I know all the coppers will be chiming in saying they have to much going on to make traffic stops. So do them when you can. These alternative solutions suck!

Anonymous said...

I gotta confess, I do the rolling stop sign. I really didn't realize it, until a few friends pointed it out - it is a bonehead move, I am working hard to change, and I never realized I did that - my husband says it's a "Beverly thing" LOL. However, I don't pass school buses, or drive in the suicide lane, so maybe there is hope.

We were playing softball yesterday in Mt.Greenwood Park and this tall, very attractive girl was walking her dog and not more than 10 feet from us her mutt stops and takes a good, healthy steamer and she made no attempt to pick it up and just walked away. What nerve. I believe I heard somebody say something but she ignored him and kept walking. I just wanted to thank her for the horrible smell, the wind was blowing pretty hard and we were down wind and had to move. Whoever you are, thanks for your ignorance and laziness. I can only imagine what your home looks like!!!

Speaking of stop signs...Is there a reason there are none at certain intersections on Ridgeway (ie 110th and Ridgeway)??

She's probably a mom in a minivan too. They think that just because they drive a minivan they don't have to use their directional signals, stop at stop signs, lane change whenever they want. Basically they feel they can do whatever the hell they want when they're behind the wheel of that minivan. Laws don't apply to them.

Robber holds up a Mt Greenwood Bank
June 29, 2009 10:35 AM

Chicago police were investigating a bank robbery that occurred this morning at a TCF bank branch in the Mount Greenwood area on the Southwest Side of the city.

The robbery happened about 9:55 a.m. and the man left with an unknown amount of cash, said Chicago Police Officer JoAnn Taylor. She said the man appeared to have fled on foot.

An FBI spokeswoman said the robbery happened at the bank branch located at 3128 W. 103rd St. (Jewel?) The man was identified as an African-American. No other details were immediately available. FBI officials were investigating along with Chicago police, officials said.

Nippsy Russell said...

Both the TCF branches around here get hit like once a month now. The one at 127th and Ridgeland too. Do you think it's about time to beef up security a little, before customers end up getting killed. That's just one of the reasons I closed my accounts with them. That and all their rip-off fees for everything. It's a very poorly run bank. TCF will be the next bank that Obama takes control over.

There are far too many stop signs in Mt. Greenwood. They are so numerous that they've become meaningless and a real impediment to getting anywhere.

I'm convinced that they're just a way for the alderman to buy votes. A stop sign or a speed bump is about the only thing an alderman can provide for a constituent. The requestor thinks the alderman is doing a great job and votes for him/her time and time again even when the alderman's performance is grossly deficient.

Bottom line: Don't sell your vote for a stop sign!

I would like to respond to Jim McMahon and the letter about the Southtown Star Paper, part of the Sun-Times Group. On Sunday there was the most offensive cartoon commentary that I've seen in my life. In a time when race and skin color should not matter here comes one more can of gas on the fire. They have an agenda to fan these flames at every opportunity. I have contacted the paper and will never purchase it. Ever. They treat the police and fire in this city horrible. We should not stand by and take these attacks, speak up and be heard. Call, write, stop buying it. Are we racist as it suggests? Why can our children be targets held at gunpoint in a school zone and beat in a park, targets of thugs that travel because "white kids don't fight back" not to be charged as hate crimes? It is time for our voices to be heard, it's 2009 for heaven's sake! I was born in 1968 and lived entirely under "affirmative action" and minority set assides yet I'm a racist? Jim had questioned Fr. Phleger only to be called a racist now we need to question those who blanket cover us as racist. We all work together in harmony why can't this all be behind us already? Why must they always have some need to rally the race wagon? Why is it always race? What can be done?

These pretend news shows like the Dumb-ass John Stewart "Daily show", and that other jerk that started out doing skits on the "Daily show" Steven Colbert have most of the 35 to 18 voting base by the balls. They take little snippets here and there of conservatives making them look like fools. Throw in a couple jokes that with some profanity in them to get the bone headed college graduates all fired up, (The college graduates that believed every word of the liberal professors they had, not the smart grads.) and boom, we got the worst President in this countries history. Obama makes Jimmy Carter look like a genius. HOLY CRAP people!! We are in deep shit! Someone's got to tell these misguided kids that these shows are satire before we lose everything.

That explains the no show for the domestic that was called in that nite...drunken young couple arguing, he drives vehicle up lawn to block young drunk ladies path. then leave the vehicle running blocking alley as they argue in the middle of the street. After waiting for 45 minutes, they most have fell back in love, cuz they left, I went back to sleep and the police never showed.

I'm not the one that called you an ass, but your post has no validity. How can anyone prove any of your statement is wrong when you can't prove it's right! Women in minivans are the only offenders? C'mon....that's being chauvinistic! I agree women for the most part are typically in more of a hurry getting the family going in the morning, but my experience is that men by far are more aggressive drivers and tend to be less careful. Just my opinion.

I agree with the ass. Women in minivans think they own the road.

Both men and women, mini vans, compact cars, trucks, cop cars...are all guilty...there are not too many sign up in this area...the corner of 104th and whipple is a terrible 2 way stop. The people with the stop signs do not stop, nor do they look to see if anyone is traveling east or west, they just fly through the intersection...It's the people without the stop signs that are stopping. I don't care if people are running late and need that extra 3 seconds that it takes to stop at a stop sign...it's better than taking a risk and getting hit by another car..Slow down....

Anonymous said...

Agreed.....everyone is guilty of it!

My son just got his license and one of the conditions with him taking the car to school is ONLY if he leaves on time. If he's running late he gets a ride to avoid him from rushing and picking up these same bad habits!
