I see Ben & Jerry's is putting an ice cream store across from Mt. greenwood park. Leave it to the compassionate liberals to squash the little guy's business. Funny how there's a need for a big corporate ice cream store as soon as a family owned shop just gets it's legs. Stay away from Ben & Jerry's, they contributed tons of money to Obama's campaign. Go open your crappy-hippy store over on Western they can appreciate you for what you are. Or better yet stay in Vermont with all the "Cherry Garcia" eatin', burnout, dope smokin' do-gooder libs. Support J.R. Boz's and the rest of the family run business's in our community.
Cook County schools chief's office, home raided July 1, 2009 10:05 AM | No Comments Cook County state's attorney's investigators raided the home and office of the Cook County regional schools superintendent, a spokesman for the prosecutors' office said.
Investigators executed search warrants on the home of county Regional Supt. Charles Flowers, as well as the Westchester offices of the county superintendent, said state's attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
There is an active criminal investigation into Flowers' office, Conklin said.
The raids came in the wake of a "no-confidence" vote by the County Board last month that called for criminal investigations in the wake of a highly critical audit that alleges misuse of public funds by Flowers' office.
The no-confidence vote itself came after the state auditor general forwarded to prosecutors an audit showing debt in Flowers' office last year soared to nearly $1 million as he made personal charges on his office credit card and gave a $6,000 cash advance to a relative who worked for him.
In a reply to the auditor general, Flowers said he personally covered more than $9,000 in credit-card charges unrelated to his job.
In addition to asking the Illinois attorney general and the state's attorney to launch criminal investigations, the no-confidence resolution also asked the state's attorney to seek recovery of $190,000 in county funds the board lent to the superintendent's office last year. The loan is due June 30.
CAN SOME OF THE TEACHERS IN THE AREA CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG ON THIS BUT WHY DOES THE COUNTY HAVE THIS OFFICE?
On 30 JUN the east side of 022 hade another murder 94th and ADA. Maybe the brain trust running the 22nd dist could assign another police car to sit there for a few months and deprive us of even more police service. It is time for Rugai to go she has done nothing to help 60655 recieve police service. I would like to see a police car on my block every now and then so I dont get robbed or my house burglarized or my kids injured but that is to much to ask from the city of Chicago and Ginger Rugai. What do we pay taxes for? Hell no to the olympics you cannot even provide regular city services.
I went downtown to get my city stickers. I waited over 1 hour to get them. Once again I never recieved any renewal notice for a car I've owned since 2000 but got one for a car I sold over 6 months ago. I bet you the farm if I did not buy the sticker for the car I didn't recieve the notice for I would have gotten the fine and late fee charges.
In case you don't know, this animal was convicted in the 1981 killing of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner. The act was an especially brutal and sadistic murder that still haunts the family, friends and coworkers of Officer Faulkner. (The New York Shields presented Officer Faulkner's family with a Medal of Valor at their 1999 Police Memorial Breakfast).
Convict Abu-Jamal has written a book, "Live from Death Row," and attempted to place himself in a celebrity status as a result of his criminal behavior. Others have supported his pathetic attempt to gain stardom and freedom, all the while spitting in the face of Officer Faulkner, his family and every single law enforcement officer in the United States.
The F. O. P. has announced the formal boycotting of the following: 1 Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Products who are donators to a defense fund for the killer. 2. Actor Paul Newman, an outspoken supporter of the killer. 3. Actress Susan Sarandon, another supporter of the killer. 4. Filmmakers Spike Lee, Oliver Stone and John Landis, supporters of the killer. 5. Writers Norman Mailer and Joyce Carol Oates, supporters of the killer. 6. Supermodel Naomi Campbell, supporter of the killer. 7. Musicians Sting, David Byrne and Michael Stipe of REM, supporters of the killer. 8. The Backstreet Boys who performed "free" benefit concerts for the killers defense fund. One of their "benefits concerts" schedule for Baltimore, MD had to be canceled when Baltimore police officers refused to work the overtime shifts for security at the concert.
On April 6, 2009, the United States Supreme Court ruled that his original conviction of 28 years ago would stand. A separate appeal by prosecutors to reinstate the death penalty has not yet been heard. In 2008, a three-judge panel of the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the murder conviction, but ordered a new capital sentencing hearing over concerns that the jury was improperly instructed. Since 1995, Abu-Jamal has been incarcerated at Pennsylvania's SCI Greene near Waynesburg, where most of the state’s capital case inmates are held.

And for a good portion of the third watch 2211 was at Christ with the dead guy and at the time of the shooting 2211A was detailed to 1320 W. 111th ST where they went in with an arrest(s). So now even less police service in 60655 because of another detail. Just remember to protect yourself, family and friends. It's better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.
I will not be patronizing Ben and Jerry's nor will I allow my kids there. Thank you Village Voice, I had forgotten that they backed this scum bag. Visit this site if you would like more info:
Village Voice thank you for the reminder I had forgot about Ben & Jerry's BS. I would rather support a local buisness than give a dime to those whack jobs
Yes, SXU will be running the Ben & Jerry's as well as the Scarlet and Grey sandwich and coffee shop. Students will be able to use their meal plan to pay for the food.
SXU probaly felt that the community might like an ice cream place and a sandwich/coffee place...so, why not put it in the community where everyone can benefit rather than on campus where they would only serve students? Seems like a win win to me.
I thought it was a good use of two of the empty store fronts on 111th. Who knows, perhaps SXU got a good deal on rent versus some other locations.
Personally, when I first heard of this I thought ice cream, coffee, and sandwiches across from the park would be a wonderful thing. Take the kids to the park have a cup of coffee while they play then stop by for a cold treat on the way home... everyone is happy.
I guess there is no pleasing you folks! You whine about the vacant buildings an lots on 111th, you moan about the lack of franchises and new businesses , you complain about the lack of progress in Mt. Greenwood but when something actually comes you poo-poo that as well!?!?!
It is also strange that just the other day there were people poo-pooing JR Boz on this site. Some were saying to stay away from him since he only takes cash and some mentioned his ice cream was no big deal as it is only Edy's.

Good Grief people!
July 1, 2009 2:39 PM EXCELLENT POST ANONYMOUS!!
Look people one more ice cream shop in the area is not going to cause every other ice cream shop to shut down. If that was the case, would we still have like 20 beauty parlors, 3 barber shops, 2 overpriced shoe stores, 3 Mexican restaurants, etc? And it's nice to see it coming to the west end of 60655. Lord knows we could use some good snack shops at our end of town. Hell I'm hoping for a Harold's Chicken at our end of town too.
The city council just put in place that all businesses must have a commercial dumpster permit...the city does not even supply the damn dumpsters...the permits goes up to $164.00....let's make it more difficult to run a small business in Chicago.....It's bad enough that one has to pay for a permit to have a sign for the business. "The city that works," BS....
Harolds Chicken is the last thing we need!!! The problem is not another ice cream shop, it is the fact that it is Ben and Jerry's. This company financially supports the release of a scum bag cop killer. Police dept. nationwide call for a boycott of this company along with many others. This site gives the story
Businesses throughout the city are in the crosshairs of Daley. The dumpster tax is only the latest. Don't forget the constant harassment by city inspectors, parking meters and the huge real estate tax hikes coming during 2009. Add it all up and you have a bunch of vacant storefronts citywide.

Also after Daley buys the Olympics see how many businesses stick around after he taxes us into the grave. You people will be begging for a Ben & Jerry's to come to town.
Personally I am just happy to see some of these vacant stores occupies. I am sick of driving down 111th street to all the signage in the windows for available space to empty lots, to empty store fronts. Mt. Greenwood looks vacant and rundown. Come on Rugai...don't let our Tiff money go to daley and his crappy plan to host the Olympics. Get the job down that you promised to our community!
went to sweet escapes for lunch with the hubby today....the sandwiches were awesome...i had blt with spinach and roasted peppers and hubby had a big ass roast beef sandwich with tons of yummies on it! after lunch we could not move! and it was super cheap!
Boycott: Ben & Jerry's Wal-Mart Toyota meat leather anything NOT made in America public schools anything NON-union anyone NOT born/razed in Mt. Grnwd Wait...what are we left with?
Harold's chicken is wayyy better than KFC or Popeye's..Its cheaper and it tastes fantastic!!You actually get chicken instaed of a bunch of breading... We order from the one on Western and 118th.
Hey, Anyone see the 111th street beat cop lately? I know I haven't.
He should be down by the AG school when they change shifts between 11:30 and 12:00.
July 1, 2009 4:16 PM
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
He is probably detailed to the east end of the district like every other car in the district!

Yes, didn't you know that we in Mt.Greenwood are not as important as those over east. Our votes do not count as much therefore, they expend fewer services on us. Face it folks, the only people who care about Mt. Greenwood residents are Mt.Greenwood residents!!
Mt Greenwood bars survived with quite a few establishments so should mom and pop with Ben and Jerry's. There is enough people to go around for a few ice cream and coffee places. I will, however, boycott anyone or place who tries to tell me where I can spend my money. The more businesses here, the more shoppers will come. Can't we all just get along????

So you are boycotting the police or me??? Your post is a little confusing. No one is telling you were to spend your money, however, for those who are interested in keeping THEIR money from companies that support a cold blooded cop killer, Ben and Jerry's is a contributor. I myself, prefer to give to J. R. Boz instead. I support the police whenever, however possible.
I'm disgusted that anyone would WANT to support this business. They openly and aggressively hand over CASH to a convicted cop killer in an effort to set him free. Is that really where you want your money to end up? It might just be a few bucks for a cone, but it adds up and contributes to making YOUR COUNTRY a little less safe. Would you also patronize a business that used procedes to buy crack for crackheads or supported an organization fighting to legalize child molestation? The notion of trying to free a man that brutally murdered a uniformed policeman sounds just as insane.
gREAT POST -- BUT YES I AM "POO POO" JR BOZ AS YOU SAY NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE BAD OR HAVE HORRIBLE MANNERS OR ANY OF THAT. JUST CAUSE IT IS EXPENSIVE TO BUY EDYS ICE CREAM THAT I CAN RUN TO DOMINICKS AND BUY FOR HALF THE PRICE. I WOULD RATHER GO TO LINDYS AND GERTIES. AND I AM SO HAPPY THAT ANY VACANT BUILDINGS ARE RENTED WITH DECENT STORES. IT SEEMS LIKE SXU IS BUYING A LOT OF PROPERTY -AND HECK IF THEY BRING "GOOD" PROPER BUSINESS WITH OUT 'GANG BANGERS" THEN I AM ALL FOR IT. WHEN YOU OPEN A BUSINESS YOU SHOULD EXPECT COMPEITION. I WONDER IF THIS IS THE OWNER OF JR BOZ COMPLAINING HIMSELF! HA HA!
>>>>>>>>Yes, SXU will be running the Ben & Jerry's as well as the Scarlet and Grey sandwich and coffee shop. Students will be able to use their meal plan to pay for the food.

Hey Lighten up people. It's just an ice cream shop coming to town. I'll eat there, and JR Boz and Lindy's, etc. The main thing is they're all going to be in Mount Greenwood and that is good for all of us.
i sort of can relate to nippsy russell not wanting go eat ice cream at ben and jerry's....i don't go to oberweis because he is one big fat republican...
I opened a business in the 19th ward over 20 years ago. It has prospered despite little support from the local residents. The business is here because this is where I live. The business would have prospered anywhere.
During the past few years, I have had minor problems with building inspectors. I found myself waitng in line for days because the city couldnt get its act together. There is an issue with parking meters. The city made it a little bit harder for my customers to visit me. There is a dumpster tax. I never heard of that. There was an iron fence I had to install. There is a massive real estate tax increase coming. The worst is when my ADT alarm goes off and the police dont respond for 3 hours. 3 hours?
I ask myself, is this the type of enviroment I want to continue trying to run a business in? If it's this repressive now what does the next 20 years bring? I go to Alsip, Oak Lawn, Countryside, all those towns. All I hear is that they will work with me not against me. I start thinking, maybe thats the best way to spend the second half of my business life. And If I am going to move the business to Countryside, maybe I should just move my family out that way too. The amenities in Lagrange and Hinsdale are much better than in Beverly and the driving would be much less.
So I'm just thinking out loud. I really don't want to leave this neighborhood but I am not going to be a whipping horse for Daley either.
So I'm just thinking out loud. I really don't want to leave this neighborhood but I am not going to be a whipping horse for Daley either.
Does anyone have any practical solutions?

Try Western Springs. Incredible schools, great village services, homes nicer than anything you'll find in Beverly/Morgan Park, and people with the same values that we have.
Another kickass burger is from Danny Cullinan's Stadium Club on 116th and Western...In a way it reminds me of a Redamaks burger in New Buffalo, Michigan...
Fat Tommy's does have a great burger, and July 2, 5:22 p.m. You're a moron. How much money and support has Jim Oberweis given to scum that should have been given the "Hot Shot" for killing a uniformed Police officer? Zero, just like your I.Q. buddy! And you are right, I wouldn't spend a red cent in that piece of crap Ben & Jerry's shop. I will support a business that has morals "Oberweis". And if St. Xavier had any Catholic morals left, maybe they would change their minds about this partnership. And another thing, to all you goofs getting down on Edy's ice cream, you would be suprised to find out that their products are far superior in quality than most of the ice cream served in your favorite places. I work in food service. I've seen some crap over the years. I'm actually a Breyers fan, but if a business was selling Breyers in their store, of course I would expect to pay a lot more for it. That's the way it works. Hello! Duh!!
Anonymous said... i sort of can relate to nippsy russell not wanting go eat ice cream at ben and jerry's....i don't go to oberweis because he is one big fat republican...
Oberweis is in the Manna Program/Tripp Program and gives back 20% to the school. 10% to the school and 10% to the families. I don't care if he is Republican, what have the Democrats in the 19th ward gotten us.
I think people and businesses will be leaving Chicago in droves. The mayor and aldermen have made it impossible to run a business or raise a family here. It is not your parent's Chicago anymore. I say forget loyalty to a neighborhood and make sure your and your family's future is preserved. I know many City (hostages) employees who are moving out of this city as soon as they can retire. Most children will not be raising their kids here either. The family tradition of City workers has ended. No one wants a job here where your contract can be changed at anytime by the mayor, that is if you even have a contract. I am sure if you dig far enough, you will find a supplier of your businesses who does not agree with your political beliefs. Just as we all don't agree on Daley, not everyone in Ben and Jerry's feel the same on the company's stance. Mom and pop can co exist with big business.
The way Daley has conducted himself............. a strong example as to why we need term limits.
This parking meter problem is a disgrace. Is there any truth to the rumor that a Daley nephew who is employed at Morgan Stanley, received a commission as a result of the parking meter deal. If so, it is a betrayal of the public trust and all involved should be prosecuted.
the dems probably gave your father and his father a job...they probably gave you your livelihood so you would be able to pay your kids tuition...stop and think before you write out loud! if you live in mt. greenwood...chances are the democrats helped you in one way, shape or form!
I dont understand where is all the money going? taxes for everything? The city still doesnt have any more money. Come on.
Daley has banked all the proceeds from the sale of city assets. Does he really think that the next administration is going to continue such banking? The next mayor will embark on the spendfest within 3 months of taking office. It may be better to just use some of that money now.
Sure, move to Lagrange or any of the western suburbs and pay $200,000 more for your 3 bedroom brick bungalow and how about more than $6,000 in taxes.(that's for a small house) If you live east of Lagrange you get to send your kids to Riverside Brookfield with all of their problems. If your on the west side of Lagrange you can send them to Lyons Township,so overcrowded that they have to split the kids up. Wherever you move people are going to complain that they don't get the services that they deserve for the taxes that they pay. Voting one party out and another party in doesn't change a thing. It's just politics as usual. In the city we complain about the democrats in the suburbs they complain about the republicans. Go figure.

.........I'm not the original poster but really? the Dems gave people jobs? The only thing the Dems have ever done to me and my family is take my tax money and give it to those who do not work. At least the republican party uses my money for things like national defense. The republican party does not think I am too stupid to take care of myself and my family. I don't need a village to raise my kids.
Now why would anyone on this blog want to believe that Ben & Jerry's is a subsiderary of Unilever and that the founders (while involved in the company) do not hold any board nor management positions with the company nor are they involved with any of the day-to-day operations...
It is much more fun to spew hate and bigotry than listen to the ACTUAL facts especially when they can twist the facts till they align with their personal beliefs.
Personally I would not voluntarily give St. Xavier University any more money from our pockets than it already gets! I am an alum of SXU and as a caucasian honor student received minimal aid. But did you know that SXU is a MINORITY University. They do not advertise in our communities as such, because of course we are not the students receiving the financial assistance. As a minority university, they receive tons in federal funds to be used in grants and scholarships for minority students. There enrollment must maintain a certain percentage of minority students to continue qualifying for the federal assistance. Since SXU is requiring all of us neighborhood students to foot our own tuition bills (while giving free education to the other city residents, based simply on their race), perhaps they should go open up their nice little ice cream and sandwich shop at 79th and Eggleston! If you don't believe me - look into it. Good luck SXU shops, you're not getting anymore of my money!
Tonight Friday3 July Bt 2211 assigned to a robbery on 119th and Vincenness at about 830pm will be down all night. What the heck friday night warm weather I guess we just dont need police patrols. Thanks for nothing Ginger Rugai. The city should be sued for negligence for any crimes that occur.
The republican party does not think I am too stupid to take care of myself and my family. I don't need a village to raise my kids.
Thank the Lord you can take care of your family all alone! Because God forbid if you or your kids or even future grandkids ever have a problem or need assistance from the government due to an illness, or an accident or even a birth defect....we can count on you not asking for a handout! Good for you! We are so happy you are so self sufficient! Congratulations!
I do know all school have guidelines and formulas to calculate who gets aid and who doesn't - I would suspect you are correct.. many families in this neighborhood ARE to wealthy to get aid and that could be at MOST schools... they may be currently living paycheck to paycheck but are still too wealthy.
Go to the sxu.edu website and use their calculator and see where your familiy fairs.
I heard about a newer program that SXU offers - and I thought it was a good thing. Do you know any veterans who could use this?
Saint Xavier University participates in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program, which allows qualified veterans to attend the University tuition-free starting in the fall 2009 semester. The program, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, allows private colleges and universities to collaborate with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to cover the difference between the GI Benefit and Saint Xavier’s tuition. The program also provides for other expenses, such as stipends for housing, books and supplies. For more information contact Assistant Director of Media Relations Rick Ducat, 773-298-3325
My earlier post was not an attack on anyone or anything. It was a plea to Daley and Ginger to be a little more cautious as to what you are doing. More taxes and more regulations will only serve to break the camels back. When that happens:::::::::::::::::::::::this beautiful neighborhood and its people are gone. Please dont do that.
i think nippsy russel should go back under the rock he came under. sounds like an old timer to me.
its just an ice cream shop. get over it people.
Get a life and stop complaining on here about everything. If you don't do anything to fix it -no use in complaining
and don't go to the ben and jerrys shop -i am sure they will survive without the old timers business anyway.
July 4, 2009 9:37 AM *********************************** I for one am not an old timer nor am I complaining, just stating my opinion, just as you felt free to state your own. I will not, nor will many people I know, patronize the Ben and Jerry's shop for the simple reason that we support police and are against supporting cop killers. Maybe if it were your family member brutally murdered you might feel differently. No one is forcing their views on you, nor calling you names, just expressing our concerns and informing others who may be interested. Sounds as if you have an issue with that.

They should be down all night ??? Three hours on a robbery report??? If it takes them three hours to do a report Hmmmm ...
I commend and applaud your conviction to honor the FOP's boycot of Ben & Jerry's... but, do you honor all their boycotts or do you pick and choose?
The FOP also boycotts:
eBay Ford Springsteen
And as mentioned previously:
Paul Newman Susan Sarandon Spike Lee Oliver Stone John Landis Norman Mailer Joyce Carol Oates Naomi Campbell Sting David Byrne Michael Stipe The Backstreet Boys
BTW : when you visit the FOP grandlodge website and click the link of Mumia supporters.. you do not find the Company Ben & Jerry's you only find Ben Cohen mentioned - while it does state he is affliated with Ben & Jerry's there is a NOt
(NOTE: Affiliations are for identification purposes only. They do not necessarily imply any institutional endorsement of the views expressed by the individual listed.)
So, has the FOP released a recent boycott or a status update so, you know if you should still be honoring a 10+year old boycott?
They should be down all night ??? Three hours on a robbery report??? If it takes them three hours to do a report Hmmmm ...
July 5, 2009 3:05 PM
Some robberies take three hours or more if the officers choose to investigate rather than merely scribble out a report. This could involve canvassing for witnesses, going to the hospital with the victim, protecting the crime scene until the et arrives, notifying and waiting for detectives, etc. Maybe there was even an arrest! Let's not criticize the officers until we know the whole story.
Boycott b&j just becuase of some info on a web site that doesn't tell me anything. Anyone have more info the what the support was? Give me a good reason to boycott because the only thing we will do is succeed in keeping another store front empty.
Wait, shouldn't we be boycotting the entire Chicago Police Department because of a few bad apples along a few cops that actually try to rationalize that behavior.
End the Taste of Chicago! I have never seen so many thugs and gang signs in my life. Showed my kids the fountain. I will never do that again during a festival. Fights all over. Shut it down like the southside parade. It was like Bud Bilikin down there!
The FOP needs to put its energy towards getting a fair contract and less towards where people shop. After 10 years, has it made a difference? 2 years without and the city is crying poor(nothing new). You better not deal away my retro check. The current expired contract is being picked away slowly by the mayor and our taxes, benefits and fees etc continue to go up. Stop worrying where I shop and do your jobs!
Can't speak for anyone but my family on the following:
eBay: don't use it Ford: Drive a chevy Springsteen: too political. Liked him in the 80's,not now
And as mentioned previously:
Paul Newman: Don't buy his products Susan Sarandon: Last saw her in Thelma and Louise Spike Lee: Watch none of his movies Oliver Stone: What has he done lately? can't think of any of his work I have watched in the last decade John Landis: Animal House was his right? Saw that in the 89's Norman Mailer: What has he done lately? Joyce Carol Oates: Don't read her Naomi Campbell: Don't have use for her Sting: Don't like his music or politics David Byrne: Don't know who he is Michael Stipe: Don't listen to him The Backstreet Boys: Way to old for bubble gum pop boys bands
I am curious why you seem so upset that I decide to honor a dead policeman's memory by boycotting some entertainers and products
July 5, 2009 9:03 PM Some robberies take three hours or more if the officers choose to investigate rather than merely scribble out a report.
This could be true ... but then all of the points you were good ones, however as you know the beat cars primary function is preliminary investigator and many of the things you mentioned are Detective responsibilities ... with all the people screaming about lack of police presence, then the beat car should handle his or her duties and return to their beat. July 5, 2009 9:21 PM Wait, shouldn't we be boycotting the entire Chicago Police Department because of a few bad apples along a few cops that actually try to rationalize that behavior.
Yes I agree, YOU should boycott the police you f@#$%&g moron. Do not call when some one breaks into your car or home. Or when someone kicks your A@#. When you need that report number for your insurance company, Just pay the whole thing because you will boycott the police. Please, Please, Please do not call the police. God I hate stupid people. Maybe one your family member's or friends will be the victim of a violent act ... let us know how your boycott turned out.
July 6, 2009 8:08 AM The FOP needs to put its energy towards getting a fair contract and less towards where people shop. After 10 years, has it made a difference?
This boycott was called for by the National Lodge not the local Lodge 7. I have a better idea for you though ... join the fire department you idiot
if the city wants to make a few extra $$ they can drive around mt. greenwood and ticket all the assholes that get off blowing firecrackers till the wee hours of the night!
Anonymous said...
Congratulations!

...............
I have not and will not ask the Government for a handout. And yes you should be happy I am self sufficient. I plan ahead, have savings, insurance policies and I work for a living. And besides, since I am of the Caucasian race I do not get Government handouts. I am just expected to pay my taxes so others who are not Caucasian can get handouts. So you are welcome for all I do for you.
*********************************** You do what you think is best for you. I for one realize the difficult and dangerous and thankless job police officers have. It doesn't hurt me one bit to avoid Ben and Jerry's in honor of a slain policeman and as a protest against the liberals that support his killer. You can boycott the CPD is you would like. Don't call them, talk to them, whatever helps you sleep better at night. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our police officers that may read this blog. This is one citizen that respects you and is grateful!!!
Someone I know has found a kitten. The kitten is about 4 months old and is friendly Tortoise shell pattern. Not sure if male or female. She can't keep the kitten, but doesn't want to turn it over to the pound. Anyone interested?
If you are interested, please send me an email at inandaround60655@yahoo.com.
At Jewel (103rd & KZ) last nite, young man approached me for $$ for groceries. This kids was better dressed than me - $100 brand new Nikes - and he is asking ME for $$?
At least the old lady who asks by CVS looks like she needs $$!
I have read tons of complaints and compliments regarding businesses on 111th Street. I want to say, I was at JR Boz's and they don't take credit cards, but their prices are 10x cheaper then any other ice cream parlor in the area. I have also seen that when people come in, order and want to pay with a credit card, the owner lets these people walk out WITH THE ICE CREAM, in GOOD FAITH that they WILL return. Do they return? I don't know, but I have never seen any business that will do that! So say what you want, go there or don't go there, that shop is truly a step back in time, when people were trusting, and took care of each other, the way the neighborhood has always been. As far as Ben and Jerry's go, I read the links, yes they are cop killer supporters, and this is a joint venture with St Xavie, it is called a partnership so they tach teach people to work that can;t get job anywhere else, so while we are pointing fingers at where the BANGERS are going to be hanging out, they will be at Ben and Jerry's Hanging with the friends working there. o Ben and Jerry's is making money off that store.
Dozens of graves have been dug up in historic Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip and the bodies dumped "in a massive pile on cemetery grounds," the Cook County sheriff's office says.
No details were immediately available, but Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart plans to hold a news conference at the gates of the cemetery in 4400 block of West 127th Street in the south suburb at 5 p.m.
His office says Dart will discuss the results of a financial crimes investigation at the cemetery, where many famous African-Americans are buried, including Emmett Till, Willie Dixon and Dinah Washington.
Don't eat ice cream. Ben & Jerry are big fat weirdos. Jim Oberweis has heart trouble and a pasty complexion and can't get elected as dog catcher. Oscar Mayer lived well into his nineties and enjoyed life. The moral: Eat bologna and hot dogs.
Another comment about Ben & Jerry's ... We have been asking for this sort of improvement to our neighborhood for so long, yet the insensitivity of St. Xav's to the hundreds of police families in this neighborhood is astonishing. What a slap in the face to the police officers who live and work here. Couldn't they have come up with a better alternative, considering there's a new ice cream shop down the street ? The fact of the Mumia/Ben & Jerry's connection is that Ben Cohen, as a private citizen, signed a petition for a retrial for cop-killer Mumia. This being said, Cohen is a co-founder of Ben & Jerry's and will reap the benefits of profits from any of their stores. Therefore, if you patronize Ben & Jerry's on 111th, the money eventually goes into Ben Cohen's pocket. The falsehood is that as a COMPANY they've contributed to Mumia's defense fund. So, what police family wants to put money into the pocket of an individual who even THINKS about supporting a cop-killer? I know I don't. As much as I want to see great franchises set up shop up and down the main streets of Mt. Greenwood, I can't help but think twice about where I'm going to take my kids for ice cream. What would you say if Mumia killed one of ours? Would you be so willing to support Ben & Jerry's if the deceased Officer Faulkner was your husband/wife, your brother/sister ? Wake up people. Progress is great, but at what cost ?
I love the idea of some nice stores at 111th and Lawndale but I wil not give any money to Ben & Jerry. Gerties and JRboz's are fine and locally owned and operated. Fat Tommys also has ice cream now.
Wasn't Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream bought out and they don't even own it anymore. If they were bought out, I don't think that they would be making a profit for themselves or even have a connection beside's the name. Hmmm, I am gong to do a little more research on this and let all know.

Yes, they are a division of the Unileaver group.. same as Breyers, Good Humor, Popsicle, Wish-bone, Skippy, Hellmans, Dove, Q-tips, Vaseline, Ragu, Lipton, Knorr, and I could go on and on.... this happened in April of 2000..
But, that means little to many who feel that because Ben Cohen signed a petition (and never gave money) and the FOP decided to boycot his company (he owned it at the time) - they will boycott the company for eternity.. which is their right...
However, an interesting point is that if you own stock (or a mutual fund that holds shares) in Unilever you are profiting from Ben & Jerry's even if you don't spend your dollars there yourself... and as a shareholder you are supporting the company anyway.

Cook County schools chief's office, home raided
July 1, 2009 10:05 AM | No Comments
Cook County state's attorney's investigators raided the home and office of the Cook County regional schools superintendent, a spokesman for the prosecutors' office said.
THE COUNTY RUNS ZERO SCHOOLS
I would ask that no one patronize Ben & Jerry's:
Convicted police killer Mumia Abu-Jamal
The F. O. P. has announced the formal boycotting of the following:
1 Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Products who are donators to a defense fund for the killer.
Heard a person named Matt O'Shea is already being groomed by the "Machine" to take over for Ginger when she retires.

Just found out that St. Xavier university is going to be running the Ben & Jerry's store. Huh????? Wassup wit dat?
Village Voice thank you for the reminder I had forgot about Ben & Jerry's BS. I would rather support a local buisness than give a dime to those whack jobs

Why shouldn't they run the Ben & Jerry's. They already own 4 of the condos upstairs.
JUST GOT A MOSSBERG 360,SAME SHOTGUN I USED IN THE MARINES,GOD HELP THE PERSON THAT FUCKS WIYH MY FAMILY HOLD THE LINE!LAW ABIDDING CITIZEN.
sounds like nippsy russell could benefit from a little pot smoking!

EXCELLENT POST ANONYMOUS!!
"The Ass"

Hey, Anyone see the 111th street beat cop lately? I know I haven't.
He should be down by the AG school when they change shifts between 11:30 and 12:00.

Boycott: Ben & Jerry's
Wal-Mart
Toyota
meat
leather
anything NOT made in America
public schools
anything NON-union
anyone NOT born/razed in Mt. Grnwd
Wait...what are we left with?
Harold's chicken is wayyy better than KFC or Popeye's..Its cheaper and it tastes fantastic!!You actually get chicken instaed of a bunch of breading... We order from the one on Western and 118th.
For those of you that attend St. Christina. What did you think of the letter that was sent out that $71,000 was still owed for tuition from last year.

I think you guys should tell them to "f" off and go to Mt. Greenwood School.... just my opinion :)

Have a Happy 4th of July 60655.
Enjoy the holiday with your family and neighbors.

i'm so happy that i nicked named you "the ass"...it's kinda cute!
i sort of can relate to nippsy russell not wanting go eat ice cream at ben and jerry's....i don't go to oberweis because he is one big fat republican...
Does anyone have any practical solutions?
Fat Tommy's has a great burger...

Hello! Duh!!

Oberweis is in the Manna Program/Tripp Program and gives back 20% to the school. 10% to the school and 10% to the families. I don't care if he is Republican, what have the Democrats in the 19th ward gotten us.
So I'm just thinking out loud. I really don't want to leave this neighborhood but I am not going to be a whipping horse for Daley either.

NEXT ELECTION VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!!
Waiting to Retire
The way Daley has conducted himself............. a strong example as to why we need term limits.
This parking meter problem is a disgrace. Is there any truth to the rumor that a Daley nephew who is employed at Morgan Stanley, received a commission as a result of the parking meter deal. If so, it is a betrayal of the public trust and all involved should be prosecuted.

the dems probably gave your father and his father a job...they probably gave you your livelihood so you would be able to pay your kids tuition...stop and think before you write out loud! if you live in mt. greenwood...chances are the democrats helped you in one way, shape or form!
sorry nip, the man with all the morals!..you're the moron!
you're jealous your guy did not win! sore looser!
Go figure.
How about Founder's bank going belly up yesterday. It is being taken over by a new bank today. I haven't heard which one yet. Anybody hear?

.........I'm not the original poster but really? the Dems gave people jobs? The only thing the Dems have ever done to me and my family is take my tax money and give it to those who do not work. At least the republican party uses my money for things like national defense. The republican party does not think I am too stupid to take care of myself and my family. I don't need a village to raise my kids.
Good Lord! Breyer's is Ben & Jerry's (and Good Humor)!

I'm still trying to find parking meters in Greater Mt Greasewood. Dis ain't 95th Street.
Founders bank has been taken over by The PrivateBank - it was in the Business section of today's Tribune
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-fri-failed-banks-0703-jul03,0,3186096.story
This is the new name for Founders Bank

Regarding SXU and finacial aid -
I do know all school have guidelines and formulas to calculate who gets aid and who doesn't - I would suspect you are correct.. many families in this neighborhood ARE to wealthy to get aid and that could be at MOST schools... they may be currently living paycheck to paycheck but are still too wealthy.
For more information contact Assistant Director of Media Relations Rick Ducat, 773-298-3325
i think nippsy russel should go back under the rock he came under. sounds like an old timer to me.
its just an ice cream shop. get over it people.
Get a life and stop complaining on here about everything. If you don't do anything to fix it -no use in complaining
and don't go to the ben and jerrys shop -i am sure they will survive without the old timers business anyway.

I for one am not an old timer nor am I complaining, just stating my opinion, just as you felt free to state your own.

The FOP also boycotts:
eBay
Ford
Springsteen
And as mentioned previously:
Paul Newman
Susan Sarandon
Spike Lee
Oliver Stone
John Landis
Norman Mailer
Joyce Carol Oates
Naomi Campbell
Sting
David Byrne
Michael Stipe
The Backstreet Boys
A big thank you to all the a@#holes lighting fireworks til all hours of the night! This means you 11252 Homan. Bunch of Beatoff's!
Can't speak for anyone but my family on the following:
eBay: don't use it
Ford: Drive a chevy
Springsteen: too political. Liked him in the 80's,not now
And as mentioned previously:
Paul Newman: Don't buy his products
Susan Sarandon: Last saw her in Thelma and Louise
Spike Lee: Watch none of his movies
Oliver Stone: What has he done lately? can't think of any of his work I have watched in the last decade
John Landis: Animal House was his right? Saw that in the 89's
Norman Mailer: What has he done lately?
Joyce Carol Oates: Don't read her
Naomi Campbell: Don't have use for her
Sting: Don't like his music or politics
David Byrne: Don't know who he is
Michael Stipe: Don't listen to him
The Backstreet Boys: Way to old for bubble gum pop boys bands
I am curious why you seem so upset that I decide to honor a dead policeman's memory by boycotting some entertainers and products
July 5, 2009 4:13 PM
The FOP Grandlodge still posts that the botcott of the products should be honored ... in addition here is an informational website ..

This could be true ... but then all of the points you were good ones, however as you know the beat cars primary function is preliminary investigator and many of the things you mentioned are Detective responsibilities ... with all the people screaming about lack of police presence, then the beat car should handle his or her duties and return to their beat.

You do what you think is best for you.
PS JR BOZ's takes checks TOO!
That's nice to know about JR Boz. Thank you for that info!!
What's going on at the cemetary on 127th just west of kedzie... Police, helicopters, and news crews. Does anyone know what's going on?

After what bees happenin at Bur-Oak now you know why I want to live with the white folk.
