JEWEL vs. WALMART

I don’t buy many groceries, so I usually don’t notice prices. But last week, I shopped at the Jewel at 120th and Pulaski and thought I was getting ripped off (in spite of Jewel’s claims of new lower prices). Today, I did a price comparison between the Jewel and the Walmart Super Center at 167th and Pulaski.

Ruffles 10 oz: $3.99 at Jewel. $3.50 at Walmart. .49 savings.

Oreos: $3.29 at Jewel. $2.78 at Walmart. .51 savings.

Sara Lee Bagels: $3.39 at Jewel. $2.50 at Walmart. .89 savings.

Iams dog food, 7 lbs: $12.49 at Jewel. $11.44 at Walmart. $1.05 savings.

Generic Alleve: $4.99 at Jewel on sale. $5.18 at Walmart. Walmart higher by 19 cents.

Ball Park hot dogs: $2.99 at Jewel. $2.00 at Walmart. .99 savings.

Sprite, 2 liters: $1.00 at both Jewel and Walmart.

Ground Chuck: $3.59 at Jewel. $3.37 at Walmart. .22 savings.

Heinz catsup, 32 oz: $3.19 at Jewel. $2.04 at Walmart. $1.15 savings.

Tide, 50 oz: $8.49 at Jewel. $7.48 at Walmart. $1.01 savings.

I bought ten items and saved $6.12. If you’re buying 40 or 50 items a week, obviously, you’ll save a lot more.

Check out the Walmart store: cleaner, brighter, and better than Jewel.

Thanks to Wal-Mart management for posting the little ad for their company.

Personally, I NEVER shop at Wal-Mart. I am surprised at all the union members and Americans who do. They are either ignorant or just plain don't care.

Saving a few bucks? Big deal. EVERY DOLLAR YOU SAVE IS HURTING ANOTHER AMERICAN FAMILY.

Wal Mart has destroyed so many small towns in this country it's almost incalculable.

Wal-Mart employs more people than any other company in the United States outside of the Federal government, yet the majority of its employees with children live below the poverty line.

Employees national average pay is under $250 a week. The salary for full-time employees (called "associates") is $6 to $7.50 an hour for 28-40 hours a week.

One-third are part-time employees - limited to less than 28 hours of work per week - and are not eligible for benefits.

The company is staunchly anti-union. Full-time employees are eligible for benefits, but the health insurance package is so expensive (employees pay 35 percent - almost double the national average) that less than half buy into it.

Another benefit for employees is the option to buy company stock at a discount. Wal-Mart matches 15 percent of the first $1800 in stocks purchased.

Guess what? Most workers can't afford to buy the stock. Not one in 50 workers has amassed as much as $50,000 through the stock-ownership pension plan.

EVEN BETTER: Voting power for these stocks remains with Wal-Mart management!

Finally, for all you "liberal Democrats" union job folks out there, despite their well-publicized "Made in the U.S.A." campaign, 85 percent of the stores' items are made overseas, either in China or in Third World sweatshops.

WAL MART HAS BECOME THE LARGEST IMPORTER OF CHINESE GOODS IN ANY INDUSTRY.

By doing so, Wal-Mart has forced many U.S. manufacturers out of business. They just move their jobs to China where labor runs less than $1.30 an hour!

I am not a Democrat or a union member, but I'll pay a few extra bucks to a company (like Jewel-who hires union members and people with disabilities) that is NOT HELPING CHINA DESTROY US.

WOW! You saved six bucks!!! How PROUD you must be!!!

By the way, you have a terrible diet!

You're kidding right? Just what we need in there- another Hynes calling the shots. I think not. What we need now, more than ever, is a Republican back in there. One that will respect the death penalty and put some of these killers down. That'll hopefully save the state some money.

Regarding Walmart....I do agree you will save a large amount of money shopping at Walmart and the new SuperWalmart in Orland Park on 159th and 94th Ave. It is a little of a drive but, well worth it. It has been said that you can save over $12,000 a year at Walmart shopping from food to household needs. I can't afford Dominicks or Jewel. Aldi's is good to for some stuff. The Fit and Active Line is Awesome for health buffs and or Weight Watchers people!

Nippsy Russell said...

Go over to Food for less on 120th & Pulaski. Got to bag your stuff but the prices are great! Draw backs are the deli is slow as Hell and the fresh meat counter is just as expensive as Jewel or Dominick's. The good news is we've still got Don's and Family pride for the meats. I use to like Alsip shopping center on 118th and Pulsaki for my meat, but I think you need to read and speak Spanish to shop there now.

Wal-Mart represents a corporate hostility toward unions that's helping to drag down workers' earnings and health care benefits. You save a few bucks at Wal-Mart employees' expense.

It was REPUBLICANS running this country for the 8 years prior to the Democrats getting into office.

Who the hell screwed up this country financially?? Can't blame this one on Mickey Mouse. Well maybe on Goofy(Bush)

Riding a motorcycle doesn't give you any special privileges. It doesn't mean you can zip back and forth in traffic at high speed without signaling and cutting in and out in front of slower moving vehicles.

Also: If you don't want to get hurt, don't come flying up on the right side of the street on one lane streets where you can get hit by a driver making a legal right hand turn.

I saw a first the other day: a guy on his motorcycle, in moving traffic, sending a text message on his cell phone. No helmet of course but then he obviously didn't have any brains to protect.

So, the Walmart employees make less than minimum wage?? Walmart's diapers and baby products are much more affordable than the grocery stores..How bout Target on 95th?? Are they bad too?? I was raised in a Union family and am married to a Union man, however, as much as I try to buy American, I can not afford to stay true to that rule...I shop where I can afford to shop..Jewel and Dominicks are over priced...
My family does buy American cars...so that's good...

More political talk is what we need. Democrat,Republican, whoever it doesn't matter folks. They are all interested in one thing, helping themselves and family that's it. All these politicians have got us in this mess we are in. What America needs is term limits for every political job out there. Why do we have 50 Alderman when cities in New York and California have half as much? Stop voting in these sons/daughters of these politicians also. Now we are seeing the politicians leaving office a liitle earlier so their children can take over with some time left ans then run for their seat. TERM LIMITS. Wasn't Pat Quinn trying to get term limits on the next ballot for us, to vote on. After all we are these politicians bosses and I personally think they should be LAID-OFF.

Are these other stores, i.e. Food for Less, Aldi and whatever union? Does anyone know?

Anonymous said...

Doesn't matter who is in office Democrat, Republican, whomever, I still have to work another 15 years toward retirement. They do not help me with anything. The only thing that goes up is their pension and salary, while mine trickles up.

We used to get our meat hear exclusively, but since it has changed over we tried it once, and that was enough. We haven't been back there since. It just seemed to be very dirty, oh and the meat turned over night so we had to go somewhere else anyway.

I love wal mart hope to get on here soon. If jewel or dominicks or other big corporations are not as efficant as wal mart tey should die. Overcharging to make big profits is what jewel and dominicks due then hide behind lazy so called union slugs and then hide and say wal mart is bad make your store better and properly price your products if you want to survive.

Who cares if they are union or not. What have the unions done for anyone lately? The unions are useless it this point. They are the one's that make huge contributions and campaign for these complete idiots that are running are country right now. And as for the republicans running the country when it tanked, that's not true, the democrats won full control over the house and senate (where most of the spending in approved) in 2006. That's when the economy took a shit. Go ahead union people keep supporting your union until every labor related job in the country is gone. Remember who got NAFTA passed, Clinton and the democratic house and senate in 1994. How many jobs did that send out of the country? That's also why the Republicans kicked their asses in the 1996 elections. Your unions put Clinton in office too. Hopefully we will have a repeat of 1996 and kick these commies out so they can keep Obama from completely destroying our free country.

I agree with you on Family Pride, I also shop Ultra at 87 and Kedzie and try the Fair Play on 111th just west of Ridgeland, they too have good meat. I shop at all of the above plus Aldi and the new Walmart, Jewel and Dominicks are out of my price range. I used to go to 118 and Pulaski but no longer speak the language.

What's going on in Mt. Greenwood right now? I hear a helicopter flying circles around my house for about a hour or so and the search lights are on. It's around the north side of 111th between Pulaski and Kedzie.

Anonymous said...

Helicopter noticed kids fighting in park and called in the fight. Noticed on here few days ago that kids are ultimate fighting in park.

HEY PARENTS: where are your kids? What are they doing? Can you help them differentiate between what they see on t.v., and what is acceptable, civil behavior? If your child thinks it's okay to imitate what you allow them to view on t.v. then perhaps they are not mature enough to watch that type of programming. If this is what is going on, then the kids that are getting beat up, should have to answer to someone.....Please step up and be an involved parent, before this situation gets out of hand and someone gets seriously injured!

Everyone should have the women in their lives carry “Wasp Spray” in their purse. They should have a can at every entrance to their homes and within arms reach in their cars too.

Personally, I'd prefer that they carry a gun, but as long as Daley still enforces his unconstitutional gun ban making it a felony in Chicago, this will have to do. It has better range and is much more effective than “Pepper Spray” too.

If they hesitate to shoot someone, if even for a moment, (and most would) it could cost them their life. But most women wouldn't hesitate for a second to spray some asshole in the face with a product that's 100% legal, and any 5 year old could go buy at the store.

After they transformed their attacker into the victim, and he’s rolling around on the ground pleading for mercy like the cowards that they are, she could then decide what to do with him after that. It’s entirely up to them and their options are virtually endless. Check out this video:

Yes, shame on you for making fun of the man on the scooter. Nothing wrong with a men using Grecian Formula so his hair doesnt match his scooter. Forties going on 20's.

Yea, let's make fun of all the off duty cops and fireman that are in midlife crisis riding around on their Harley Davidson's with the chaps and the leather coats with "Live to ride" patches and bandanas pretending like they are a member of Hell's angel's. Now that's funny! By the way, I personally love when you guy's fall out of the bars on 111th and blast around the neighborhood at 2:00 A.M. waking everyone up. Your cool.

Your comment is one sided and nobody judges what you choose to drive...it's your choice. There is nothing wrong with riding a motorcycle and it's not just cops and fireman. Do I personally care for them? No....
It's wrong for people driving a car and/or motorcycle to attempt drinking and driving period.

What are you babbling about? It's called sarcasm. Hello!

Anonymous said...

I'm shocked to hear someone complain about Harley riders around the neighborhood. If they are off-duty police and fireman you should be happy. Since we don't have proper police protection, this is the next best thing! I know for a fact if they see something wrong, they will stop to help or hold someone till the cops arrive, thats the way they are. But if you don't like them, when you see one, tell him to stop it, then I'm sure a few of your teeth will be knocked out. NOW THAT'S COOL !!!!!

Anonymous said...

Did you know that these motorcyclists escort our soldiers home from the airport, escort deceased police and fire, retired or active from the funeral home to the graveyard. They also have rallies where they raise lots of money and give it to needy families and childrens charities, burn camps, etc. Till you know what they are about, quit complaining. What do you do to help your fellow man? Bitch about 10 seconds of noise, WOW ! Get off your dead-complaining ass and join them, you might feel better about yourself.....

Anonymous said...

So what your saying is they are great people, yet if you tell them to stop doing something that's clearly annoying like waking up their neighbors, they have the right to knock your teeth out? You are an idiot. Besides the comment that I left was in defense of a middle aged guy that is riding around on a scooter. Get over yourselves. It's O.K. to poke fun at someone that's out just having a little fun that most likely can't afford the $25,000 plus price of a Harley.

That's exactly what's going to happen with the sewers along 111th.
The sewers are in such bad condition from when the resurfaced 111th, that they had Daley's son's company try to put liners through the sewers instead of fixing them. It took over 6 months and LOTS of money was spent. Just found out that ANOTHER company is going to start relining the same sewers because they're backing up worse than before. Anyone driving into Mount Greenwood from the west end of 111th will know about the flooding on the south side of the street. Just goes to show you that the city that works, screws it up to just keep on working.

Hey, Mr. Hate. You are probably the guy on the scooter. Nobody hates you but yourself. People have the right to enjoy themselves on two wheels whether its a bicycle, scooter or motorcycle. And by the way, you can buy a Harley Sportster for around $6,000.00 or a LowRider for around $12 to $15,000.00. If you want all the bells and whistles and chromed out now your talken $25 to $30,000.00. And the Hell's Angels you refer to probably are the AXEMEN, a group of Union Firefighters that got together to do some good for people and from what I understand, there are groups of firemen all over the country and maybe the world that belong to this club. They won't hurt you so climb out from under your wifes skirt and be a man not a wimp.
