Hey, Anyone know what happened to Mount Greenwood Auto Repair over there on Kedzie? They seem to have shut down.

I think Tom Dart is blowing this Burr Oak Cemetery problem out of proportion. A press conference at the front gate of the cemetery at 5 pm? Come on. What really going on here and what's he really running for?

The oversight of the cemetery is supposed to be by the Illinois Comptroler. Why wasn't the comptroler at the press conference? Was this problem so compelling that a press conference even had to be called?

It looks like Dart has outflacked Dan Hynes on this issue. I don't think they like each other anyway.

Anonymous said...

I think hynes got out flanked by Lisa Madigan again.

Anyone remember the sign that used to be on the fence of Burr Oak Cemetery a few years ago?

It was on the 127th St exit ramp from Northbound 294. It said: "We have plenty of room but we don't want you yet. Drive safely."

I'm lovin' it!!

The Sheriffs Department is receiving requests from media all over the country that want to interview the Sheriff. This may seem like grandstanding to Cook Co residents but there are people all over the country that have loved ones buried at Burr Oak. These people want to know where their loved ones are. According to Sheriff Dart there are body parts dumped in the weeds and overgrowth in the back of the property. I cant imagine what people who have children and babies buried in Burr Oak must be feeling right now. I hope Sheriff Dart doesnt use this to further his agenda or political career, but I do understand the publics interest in this story and the need for him to speak to the media.

I hear Tom Dart is eying Toddler Stroeger's job.

So when does our ward get the meeting with the Olympic Committee?

Anonymous said...

I see that dan hynes got involved with the cemetery problem.

come on people...if this had happened at st. mary's or holy sep..you'd be outraged! this should make news around the country..it was a really sick and evil act! get with it...just because you don't have family members buried there does not mean it is any less news worthy! dart should speak out! and loudly! some of you seemed more upset that the ssi parade was cancelled!

wake up and have some compassion!

Anonymous said...

The fact is...this never happened at St. Mary's, Holy Sepulchre, St. Cas...or any other predominantly white cemetery. For many reasons, but the main one is because there are too many loved ones who come back to tend graves...and they don't need maps to find out where their relatives are buried.

Dart is making a big deal out of this for his own political purposes. For the blacks it's all about the money.

Dart gets all the blacks lined up behind him, nodding their heads, muttering about their "rights" and remembering him in the next election.

The blacks, meanwhile, have a special meeting planned tomorrow at Operation Push about how to get in on the lawsuits.

The only thing you have to worry about visiting a grave at Holy Sepulchre is locking your car and your personal safety because of the thugs who prey on the visitors there. (You know, the same thugs who have all their play cousins buried at Burr Oak.)

I agree that this is a sick crime but what shocked me is the good Rev Jackson saying there is a special place in hell for these people. Jackson will stand behind rapists and killers declaring them innocent until proven guilty and then call the courts racist when his followers are found guilty but is ready to condemn these offenders to a speacial place in hell. Jackson is a special type of fraud.
Ps this would never happen at Holy Sepulchre because I stop by the familys plots 3-4 times a year to plant flowers/pull weeds and all the plots around ours are even better maintained by the relatives of the departed.
That being said I doubt this is the only cemetary something like this has happened at. Just last month there were storys on the news about remains being found at a Gary,IN funeral home that had been closed for a long time.

July 11, 2009 12:58

You proud CPS graduate.

First, I'm not superstitious, so take your 1970's "karma" and stuff it where the sun doesn't shine.

Two, if you actually believed in "karma" you would know that it is not a "bitch." That's just a dumb expression used by morons who can't think of anything better. You remind me of the old lady who used to say "Don't cross your eyes or some day they'll stay that way."

And a big number three. There is no such thing as a "looser."

"Looser" is not a noun, it is an inflected form of an adjective. For example, after reading your entry, my bowels were looser.

I think you were trying to say "loser." If you want to sound smart when you insult people, you need to develop your mental abilities. Otherwise, you just come off sounding like a...well...a loser.

Thanks for playing.

Robbery the other night (around midnight) at the Quickie Mart store at 107th Pulaski.. Older Male White (maybe late 30's/40), heavy set...walked in the store with a full black hood over his head and robbed the store..had hand in his pocket (maybe gun/knife?)...began smashing the register on the floor to get money out of the register,...

I lost my wallet today, Monday, July 13th at approximately 6 a.m. near the 7-11 store on 111th and Kedzie. It's small, black and doesn't have much in it. It won't have any money in it. But it does have my license and Founder's Bank debit card. I am getting married in a few weeks, am very stressed and would greatly appreciate it if you would keep an eye out for it. I've lost my wallet before, and it is a real pain replacing your drivers license and everything else you have in there.

But you mentioned that you're getting married in a few weeks, so I wouldn't worry too much about your debit card if I were you.

I've been married for 32 years now and believe me, whoever gets their hands on your debit card couldn't possibly spend more money than your future wife will.

I don't know if this is going around the neighborhood, but apparently there is a car with some teenagers drving around shooting possibly a pellet gun at people. It has happened to two boys I know and the one is in the hospital and may lose one eye. The 1st boy did not think anything about it as it did not hit him but unfortunately the 2nd boy was hit in the eye and the doctors say he might have lost vision in the eye. Also the boys both discribe the same car but no license plate number. Being away on vacation I do not know if the police has informed the community. Or our Alderman for that matter. Please tell your children to be extra careful. This prank needs to be stopped now. I don't know where the first boy was at when this happened but the second boy was near Kean Gas Station near 109th st

Unfortunately these robberies occur in Mount Greenwood for one simple reason. The business owners do not want any of those blue light police cameras anywhere in Mount Greenwood. They fear that if those cameras are put up, shoppers will think that this is a dangerous area to shop and will not come here. I say put them up EVERYWHERE they can. This will cut down on the bank/store robberies. It will also deter the little darlings from the AG School from getting out of hand if they know they are being watched.

It is not okay to "desecrate" a grave site, no matter "whose" it is. But lets put things in perspective.

Scores of "bereaved" relatives with absolutely no idea where their "loved ones" are buried so they need maps?

So-called "relations" of the people buried at Burr Oak saying on TV that "my rights has been violated."

Do they teach this crap at Operation Push? How does this affect a living persons "rights?" Answer: It doesn't.

But here's the best part, folks. The investigation, subsequent DNA testing, body removal and reinternment and all the other costs are soaring into the millions.

Guess who gets to pay for it? That's right, your county board has decided that YOU the hard-working taxpayer, will pay for this.

The assholes holding elected office in this state are eagerly patronizing every black person they see because it is so easy to buy their votes with taxpayer dollars.

...And our country continues to swirl down the drain...

Our ambulance (17) is always somewhere else. Our police presence is always somewhere else. They are short handed as it is, if they put mandatory furlough on police and fire, we will sure be up shit's creek don't you think? Besides, the police and fire are working without a contract the other unions got a raise, but have to take furlough days. Do I feel sorry for the union workers who have to take days, sure, but some of these union guys are making $50 a hour and get OT. I feel more sorry for the office worker making $12 an hour who have to take the days. Just my thoughts.

Burr Oak does not have large "monument" style headstones... it has flat headstones or grave markers.. so, when you go see your grandmother's grave.. you may know to go left when you enter the cemetary and then go to the big monument with the cross and the angel.. then go to the monument that is old and reads "Uncle Joe died in 1868" -

if you had no landmarks to help you find it or all the markers had changed.. could you still find your grandma?

While some are very good at visiting their loved ones... many are not.

My father has been dead 20 years and is buried out of state.. it has been 5 years since I visited his grave.. does that make me a bad person?

I know many others who have never visited their grandparents grave and many others that know that are buried at "one of those catholic cemetaries on 111th". But, I bet they would raise holy hell if they found out someone had been messing with their loved one.

Um, could it be because they are considered Emergency Services? Why wouldn't they be excluded? They are serving and protecting the city while the other city workers sit on their ass most of the day and collect a pretty nice check. The day you have to take a bullet or walk in a burning building is the day you deserve to be in that category.....until then be thankful you have a cushy city job and that you're not collecting unemployment.

Does anyone know what happened at Mt. Greewood Park last night at about 8:30 p.m. There were about 75 kids by the field in one big mob. Looked like a fight but, it took forever for police to come and break things up. All the kids started fleeing the park once the car came flying down 111th into the park. The cops never got out of the car, never chased any kids down and just shagged them out of the park. WTH!If my kids were up there, thank god they are toddlers, I would want to know if they were involoved.

Okay, here's the question of the day. The person who wrote the above comment is:

A) A loyal Democrat voter who voted for Daley, Stroger, Blagojevich and Obama.

B) Is too lazy to picket City Hall about his/her own job.

C) Someone whose patronage job is being eliminated because it was never needed in the first place.

D) An utter moron.

E) All of the above.

Nobody said not visiting a grave was bad. What's bad is when all of a sudden "loved ones" come crawling out of the woodwork to claim a piece of the pie.

And no, we would not raise holy hell. But we would hold the people accountable who did the dirty deeds.

You don't. Too many of you think this is a big payday that should be shouldered by the state and county taxpayers.

You feel like "your rights has been violated..." and blah blah blah. The same old song you always sing to get in on the lawsuits.

You see, the people who committed these crimes were black, but you don't want them to be held responsible. After all, they don't have any money.

Your great leader Jesse "The Joke" Jackson wants them burned in a special place in hell. That should be enough for you, but it's not.

So go sing your sad bullshit song somewhere else. We are tired of it.

I guess you would think that nobody will get injured until one of these kids break their neck, brain injuries, or have their nose smashed into their face that they die. Let's see how you feel then. My kid wasn't there, nor was he involved so you can keep your parenting comments to yourself! My kid is honest with me and tells me stuff like this because of the way he is raised. He doesn't run and hide and deny the bad stuff kids are doing and he stays away from it. He picks up the phone when he's not comfortable with what they're doing and I go get him, no questions asked. You watch from a distance and just let it happen? A real adult would walk over and make them stop. Take a step back and look at how you handled it and then judge others JERK!

Supposedly the kids tap out when they are ready to quit and the match is over. Does that make it any better? No....

Parent of the year! What a great way to build trust with your kid! If you have to sneak up on your kid, there is something very wrong! I agree the park has trouble, but there are not many options for kids these days. Trust them to do the right thing and not get involved. My son almost never goes there, but when he does he stays away from the trouble. Cops come and he stays put because he knows he's not doing anything wrong. He brought our bean bag set up there last night to get the kids to do something fun.....is something wrong with that?

I'm wide awake honey! I have been there....when he calls for me to pick him up because things get out of hand if/when he does go there which is not often. 90% of the time he's home, at a friends or I'm taking a group to a show, bowling, etc. I happen to be involved with my kids. He's 16 and doesn't call me mommy anymore and has NEVER been brought in by police and I trust him to know he never will. I've had cops like Dangles say he wished all kids up there were like mine.

You keep saying "you've seen", why don't you do something about it? You're just as bad as they are by letting it happen. I realize you're not their parent, but if you don't care to see it, don't watch or speak up!

BTW....I don't drink, but thanks for your useless advice!

I don't know who you think you are, but you have no right criticizing people and families you don't know.

So I guess you two have the only good kids in Mount Greenwood and it is all the "other " kids doing bad things. So it is "not your child" OK if you say so. There is a park load of "good" kids whose parents think the same way. I have said something to these kids only to be replied to in a manner they no doubt, did not learn at home. Police...please....they do not respond on a timely manner. They chase them out once they do arrive only to have the kids come right back. I live across the street and see your "angels" day in and day out. Someone mentioned YouTube on here once before. Sounds like a good idea. Seeing is believing and you just don't want to see.

There are a lot of "Eddie Haskell's" around here. Not that I wasn't like that when I was a kid. The difference is that when an adult told you to "Hit the bricks" you would do it. Now the kids curse you out and refuse to leave even after the Police come by and tell them to leave. What comes around goes around I guess and at the rate that our values in this country are decaying, the generation that's cussing us out now, will be getting shot at by the next generation of Eddie Haskell's. Good luck with that.

And you bet your ass I'm going to defend my kid! I didn't work this hard as a parent to let people like you make such unfound, terrible remarks. I'm proud of the young adult he's develped into and it's a shame there aren't more parents on here telling you to go pound sand!

I for one agree with you. I can read between the lines in your post and can relate to how you feel based on what you wrote. I face similar comments like the ones you are receiving. I guess I am one of the "ODD" parents like you who know what their kids are doing. I have given up trying to convince people that "it's not my kid." What is important is what I know. I don't keep my kids in a bubble or tight leash nor are they perfect but I am not going to just hand them over to society without MY SUPERVISION. I made mistakes at that age an YES my kids will also. I would rather my child hate me for my rules than get a call from the police. I can't guarantee it will never happen but I can't just stop parenting. Being a parent is one of the hardest jobs in the world and different things work for different people. Even with my own kids there are different rules based on their maturity level. If people think my head is in the sand, that is fine. Continue to be proud of your children and let them know you are. I don't criticize how other people parent because what works for them may not work for me or vice versa. I welcome advice though because I am not always right nor would I ever claim to be, it's trial and error and for me my methods work-for NOW and for MY family.

...................................Thank You!!!! I wasn't in any way trying to say my kid is the only "good kid" out there, but he is a good kid and nobody is going to tell me otherwise. It's sad that other parents have such a weak relationship that they have to sneak up on their kids or snoop around for information. Talk to your kids and show them a little bit of trust....it goes a long way!

They chase them out once they do arrive only to have the kids come right back. ...................................There is nothing for me to see. I know where my kid is and what he's doing. YouTube? IF you spoke to your kids you would already know that these UFC events are recorded and posted on YouTube.

I'd like to thank all the parents that drop a car load of kids off at Mt. greenwood school play lot at 9:00 P.M. Even though that see and hear the mob of kids cursing at each other and at cars and the people walking by. What a bunch of jerks. The play lot is closed at Dusk, the sign has been there on the wall for 5 years. Invite the brats to hang around your block and act like thugs.

...................................Yikes....midnights are a bear! My husband works swing shift so I can sympathize with you! Thanks again for the reassurance that there are others out there that have good relationships with their kids. I feel bad for the others.

Enjoy your weekend too.....

...................................FYI......the park closes at 11 p.m. and there are signs posted all over the park stating so. I just called the park house and confirmed. It's a public park and they have the right to be there. No need to go calling anybody a jerk. Call and complain to the park district if you have a problem with it, but good luck...all parks are open until 11 p.m.

I am a long time Mt Greenwood resident and have raised 6 children here that are now in their mid-late twenties and responsible adults. Mt Greenwood park has always been a place for teenagers to hang, drink, smoke, fight & have sex. When my children were teenagers they had no reason to be up there because we opened our house, yard & pool to our children & their friends this way we could provide supervised recreation for them. I think that's what the parents in this neighborhood need to do allow your children to be at home instead of running the neighborhood wild because your to busy working 3 jobs to pay for all those luxury items that you don't need.

So where were your kids, who you trust, this weekend when the helicopter was around with the mobs of kids??? Being a parent is knowing the realities of our times. If you just "trust" them you are not being a parent you are being their friend. Your kids have enough friends, they need you to parent. Ths is not the 1950's people.

***********************************So are you saying you shouldn't trust your kids? Trusting them doesn't make them your friend, it teaches them honesty and helps them develop a strong backbone. I don't agree w/the stuff that goes on up at the park, but couldn't help responding to the trust comment.

***********************************My first response didn't go through so I'm resending....forgive me if it's a duplicate!
So, you don't trust your kids or believe there should be trust there? It teaches them honesty and morals. You won't learn that from your friends! Don't get me wrong...I disagree with most of the activity at the park, but to not trust your kids is just nuts!
