Olympic Meeting at St. Xavier (Tonight)!

2016 Olympic Committee Meeting at Saint Xavier University.

This coming Wednesday, August 5th, the Chicago Olympic Committee will be hosting an open meeting for community residents that are interested in learning more about our city’s bid to host the 2016 summer games here in Chicago. The meeting is in the “Butler Reception Room” at Saint Xavier University at 7:00 PM.

If you need more information on this, you can contact Fran Hurley at the Mt. Greenwood 19th Ward office by calling (773) 238-8776 or e-mail her at fhurley@cityofchicago.org.

In my opinion, hosting the Olympics is a losing proposition for the taxpayers of Chicago . Mayor Daley is cutting jobs, salary’s and benefits for city workers under the guise of being broke, yet is still going to guarantee profits to the Olympics using OUR money. If he refuses to listen to the will of the people that oppose this and insists on having these games here, let him and the City Council guarantee these profits personally using their own homes, bank accounts, other personal assets and pensions to back it up. The only ones that stand to benefit from any of this are the “Clouted” Contractors and the corrupt city officials that will be getting kickbacks under the table in return for huge contracts being awarded. Besides, Mayor Daley made it quite clear that the only people that are even allowed to bid on some of these city projects are “Minority Contractor’s,” which as of last week includes special status for “Gays.” What happened to the EQUALITY everyone wanted so badly? Personally, I don’t care what race, gender or sexual orientation anyone is, discrimination is discrimination in any color. To give ANY preferential treatment to ANY group of people under ANY name or description, is nothing more than plain old “discrimination.”

Regardless if you’re for the games or against them, here is your opportunity to let the Olympic Committee, Mayor Daley and all the other politicians in Chicago know how you feel about the 2016 Olympics. Whining about what’s going on won’t make a bit of difference, come on out and express your opinion……….LOUD & CLEAR!

On the other side - what makes you think for one second that if Daley does NOT get these games that things will be any better?

Mark my word - there will be a sudden rash of privatizations of every aspect of the city.

Garbage collections, inspectors, water department, building department, most of general services and more. The pencil pushers feel they can save even more money by out-sourcing everything. Screw the contracts with the unions.. he can write his own deal and put his on cronies in to head up these "private" firms.

These groups won't have to honor the Shackman agreement and see how clouted they will become... you think patronage is bad now?

Just ask a city worker how much work that used to be done by city workers is now being done by outside firms.

Once city workers have been laid off - even if they get hired by these outsifde entities... do you think they'll have to live in the city? Heck no.. people will be moving out in droves.

Now all this is not a reason to have the games.. just a thought on what will happen if he does not.

the city's set-aside program is nothing new. it's a city-wide ordinance that effects all construction projects... 24 percent are earmarked for minority-owned firms and four percent for female-owned firms.

and gays are NOT included in set-aside contracts, the idea to include them was merely proposed by ald. tom tunney last week.

Most of the contractors don't want the gays included in the set aside program because...

1, The job done would be of highest quality.
2, It would look much better in person than the draft drawing would be.
3, It would come in UNDER BUDGET and ON TIME.

Ho can we expect a "straight" contractor to compete with that??!!

Pretty poor showing at the meeting last night - what 160 - 180 people and numerous of them where not even from our ward.

Meeting lasted 2 hours, with a lot of Q and A, and they stayed afterward to continue answering questions one on one.

It is not like Daley is going to say "the people of Chicago don't want the Olympics, so we will cancel our bid" It's going to happen anyway. This meeting was the vaseline before we all get screwed. Just waiting to retire and get the hell out of this city, county and state. Death of the middle class in Chicago via taxation, reverse discrimination, no police protection, a cut in city services, layoffs, cut in pay, unpaid furloughs, no raise in over 2 years, the union busting, and no respect of contracts. Dictator Daley and the New Cuba.

That's because I had no Idea that there was a meeting until I received a flier in the mail from Ald. Rugai, about 2 hours prior to the meeting. Way to get the info out there Ginger!!!

Are you signed up withthe ward office to get their Blast email? I also signed up to get the blast email from BAPA - they always have intersting items about things in the neighborhood and they put things in about Mt. Greenwood.

Anyway, I received a flier from the ward office, 2 blast emails from the ward office, 2 blast emails from BAPA, saw it in the paper and read it here - saw the rowdy going-ons at other such meetings on the news and they said more meeting will be held throughout the city so I looked online and found the info there as well. So, other than knocking on my door and getting a personal invite I think the information was out there well in advance.

Oh and the flier you got - perhaps you got it on Wednesday - if it is the same flier I and others got it was promoting the movie in the park too.

So,
