I am selling RAFFLE TICKETS to help raise money for the Avon 2 Day Walk for Breast Cancer on June 6th and June7th, 2008. I am walking with a team made up of family and friends, each who need to raise $1,800 in pledges. We are known as “Team KA-POW” (Kathleen Annie Powers). Together we can knock out breast cancer! I am walking in honor of my two sisters who are fighting this terrible disease. My sisters were both diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002 and then again, within weeks of each other, in 2005. Our team is dedicated to these two very brave women as they continue to fight everyday and to all the others who are fighting this disease. Baseball post

I know that some of you like the baseball history and trivia that Life's too short is posting, however, some of you don't.

So, I am asking Life's too short to post his baseball facts and such on this post. That way the people who are interested can read it if want to and those who don't want to read it don't have to.

It's only what 14 days until the White Sox' home opener.

Open Post for 3/23 - 3/29

Congratulations!

Congratulations to these two young women from in and around 60655.

The Illinois Alliance of Art Education and the Illinois State Board of Education have selected the artwork of Mother McAuley High School senior Nikki Annes, of Chicago's Beverly community, to be the 2009 Illinois Arts Education Week poster.

This is the second year in a row that a student from McAuley has won the state board's poster contest.

The theme of this year's contest was "Envisioning Our Future" through the arts. The contest, sponsored in cooperation with the governor's office, brought in nearly 150 entries.

Senior Lauren Martinkus, of Chicago's Mount Greenwood community, also had her artwork selected for an honorable mention award.

Both Annes and Martinkus are students in Kathy Gordon Davis' AP Studio Art class at the school.

The printed posters will be sent to all Illinois public and private schools to display during Illinois Arts Education Week.

The winning artwork also will be on display at board headquarters in Springfield and at the awards ceremony in Rock Island.

Days gone by - Southside Irish Parade

I was sent this video of the 1958 Southside Irish Parade..(79th Street).

As you will notice...there were floats, yes, actual floats. People standing on the curb waiving their hands, not their cups overflowing with beer. No fights breaking out.

It looks like the actual Mayor of Chicago (Daley, Sr.) actually had enough pride in his Irish heritage to show up.

WOW... take a peek at the good old days.

True or False?

I have been getting a ton of emails from friends and family today about an "alleged" gang initation.

It states that women should avoid Wal-Mart stores this weekend as these gangbangers are going to be randomly shooting women.

I don't want to cause women to panic, however, if it is true, then a warning to all of our wives, mothers, sisters, etc. is in order.

I know there are plenty of cops that read this blog, so what say you? Is this true or not?

***update**** I checked on snopes.com - this story is false and has been flying around the internet and such since 2005 in various forms.
