Empty Stores and Lots

What kind of businesses would you like to see move into the empty stores and lots in 60655? There are plenty of locations up and down 111th Street, a few on Kedzie, many on Western. Corner of 115th and Western is horrible! Would like to see something going in on 111th and Pulaski. Maybe this post will give some future business owners some ideas?

we need a bakery...a mom and pop sandwich shop...something harmless like a knitting shop... we need things like these in our community!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT GOING ON IN THOSE CONDOS/STORE FRONTS ON 11TH LAWNDALE? HAVE NOT SEEN ANYONE WORKING ON IT IN MONTHS??

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A POMPEI BAKERY IN 60655..OR ANOTHER QUALITY ITALIAN RESTAURANT

I think they were putting in a Harold's Chicken there (111th/Lawndale), not positive.

I would not really call Pompei quality but it would be a nice addition.

Jimmy Johns?
Pot Bellys?
A good soup shop?
Ice cream parlor?
Etc

The problem is that any business is going to look at the taxes they are going to have to pay and all the city crap they need to deal with. They will look at a map and see within a few blocks they can place a store in the burbs and not deal with the city mess.

I would like to see a Whole Foods or Trader Joes occupy the 106-107th block of Western. Unfortunately it would never happen because it would take away from County Fair.

Actually there is a new Ice Cream Parlor at 111th/Homan. Nice Place. Owner very nice.

how about a nice hunting store and maybe a gun range!!! It sounds like we r going to need it!!!

They better not put a Harold's there or a J.J. Fish or a Sharks or a shady cellphone store. Some nice sit down restaunts that families can go to. How about a nice steak house and I don't mean a Lonestar. A good record store would be nice (can't sell rap). They should try to attract the businesses like they have on Taylor Street, but until we give these businesses tax breaks that the big corporations get we will keep losing these businesses and jobs to the suburbs.

If Harolds comes in or Sharks or Hooks for that matter I would suggest good fire insurance!

No quality stores are going to come to Mt. Greenwood with our outrageous sales tax. I live in Mt. Greenwood. I shop in Dupage County when I can, and Oak Lawn when I have to.

Nothing will ever get done in Mt. Greenwood until we get a new alderman. Love that picture of the beautiful "new" Walgreens that is all faded from the years that its been hanging out in front of the old store. Real nice Ginger! Who votes for this woman? Was she voted in for life, like Daley. Sheesh, wake up people! Let's get rid of these mopes!

They should put a strip club at Pulaski & 111th. They won't bother the dead. The farm is not a farm so the farmer won't be sleeping. Patrons from Quigley's could get loaded then spend the rest of their money at the strip club which would generate tax income. Plus the strippers could get a tan across the street. This is a win-win for everyone.

It's also better than some jitney sports dive or abandoned burrito place.

I understand your plight since we are going through the same thing in Hegewisch. Business is folding and Section 8 is killing our neighborhood......and no one seems to care.

How about any decent business? 111th street is so ugly any upstanding business would be an improvement. Some of the older buildings in disrepair should be removed to make ample and easy to access parking. Mt. Greenwood's 111th street could look like as nice as Oak Lawn if we had the right people supporting us. It is such a shame to let it decline like it is. What happened to the 111th/Kedzie development?!

just wondering when ginger will be taking down the walgreens "coming soon" sign that was posted nearly
2 years ago?!

i remember they had a sign up and then someone took it down (or stole it). The night before firefighter William Grant's funeral...and I mean the night before approximately 7:30 p.m. (what 19th ward worker works that late?) the new sign was hoisted into place for all to view as they came down 111th for his funeral from CK to Holy Sep. pretty pathetic isn't? come on ginger do something for others besides yourself!

You have to learn to support your LOCAL Community businesses so that more will come and the the existing ones will be able to survive & grow. The more you shop in other towns the more you help them grow.

There is very little parking for customers in Mt.Greenwood. People would rather go to a nearby mall with ample parking, rather than get their car door ripped off by the morons that speed through our neighborhood. The owners of these businesses should have realized when they opened a shop here that parking is a huge issue. I would never open a business on streets such as 111th or Kedzie without "off street" parking available. Pressure our "do-nothing" alderman to buy up some of these abandoned dumps and put in some decent parking lots.
