Child Lure Incident

I have had several comments on this -

such as -

Child Lure Incident on 105th & Troy, on Weds. 1/7, a 7 year old female was approached by 3 males driving a silver car, asking how old she was, where was her mother, etc. They drove North on Troy. The child reported the incident to an adult who called the police.

On Jan 7 2009 at approximately 6:00pm. A silver car with 3 male blacks stopped their car at 105th and Troy and asked a 7year old girl strange questions such as where is your mother? etc and then fled the scene. This was reported to the police and a citywide fax was sent out in the police dept. messaging system.

The post about the 3/m/1's stopping and asking questions of a f/2/7 is true. I also saw the fax message come out. The questions were indeed strange. It was listed as an attempt child luring. The info was given by the family I would guess but no one is in custody. They asked other q's besides where is your mother which were a bit odd. The story is true though and can be verified if necessary through the 022nd District. Please be aware these types are roaming the neighborhood.

We need a concealed law. There are civilian citizens that can handle their weapons out here. There has been several shootings that may have been avoided with a concealed carry law. (Lane Bryant, Northern Illinois university, Virginia tech). Not to mention the stupid gang bangers that rob citizens anywhere they feel like it because they know you don't have a weapon. I respect our police officers here in Chicago, but we need to be able to protect ourselves. In most cases the Police are historians, documenting the crime. What are the odds of a police officer being around when it happens to you?

I am always around walking in the neighborhood with my dog and I for sure keep my eyes peeled! I've actually called the police quite a bit these last few months as there has been a ton of blacks I see walking the streets looking suspicious, especially by neighboring houses. I may be wrong sometimes, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. It is what it is…I'm a single white female and shouldn't feel "unsafe" in my own neighborhood. When in doubt CALL THE POLICE!

That is a very racist thing to say. I on the other hand have been telling the wife it is either a handgun or a dog. She has not yet made up her mind but I do agree these f-in savges need to go!

______________

You are absolutely right. Citizen's need to arm themselves because the Criminals will always have access to guns .

I'm not racist, but I agree we should call on suspicious people. Face it, black people walking in Mt. Greenwood neighborhood? It's not because they live there! With the economy the way it is...desperate people take desperate measures and it's a very serious thing. We need to be careful! I don't know about a concealed law though. That's a bit extreme.

Anonymous said...

What's extreme about a concealed carry law? What is really extreme is Daley's screwed up policy on hand guns. This piece of crap actually believes that the residents of the city of Chicago do not have the right to keep and bare arms in their own home! I'll bet old Richie has a 45 on his night stand. Just in case the bad guys get passed the Police parked in front of his house. What a bone head! I guess citizens of Chicago will have to fumble around with a cross-bow or a some other much more civilized means of self defense. It's my home, and my family, butt out you clown!!!

I don't disagree with the comments on Daley. To each their own I guess. I just think weapons in a home w/kids is dangerous. Even if it's locked up...I mean by the time you got to it to protect yourself you could be dead already. I think there are other alternatives like a house alarm and guard dog that will secure your home in the event somebody tries to break in. You'd wake up to the alarm and dog barking, that's for sure. In most cases, both scare the person away....that's what their designed for.

Are you kidding me??? I thouhgt this was a nice neighborhood blog not a racist venting place, I know many of you have seen the worst of the worst in human kind but really calling the police everytime you see a black person in your hood is crazy. No wonder 22nd dist doesn't show up. Man I feel like am a reading a blog about the deep south in 1960. How about the white teens that are out of control beating grown men, openly drinking at block parties?? These kids make you feel safe cause they belong?? Or the many white trash families living in Mt. Greenwood, I know I have at least three families like this on my stree alone. There is crime everywhere black, white etc.... It doesn't always have to be about race it really is about class and it seems you have none.

I am totally and utterly surprised by this, not that it happened but that I just heard about it. When I grew up if something like this happened a letter was sent home with every child from the school stating the facts, so that every parent knew of the threat. This is crazy that our schools and the police will not inform the public about a very real threat to a little girl. How crazy that I find this days later? Guess this is theonly way to find out whats going on. Thanks for your site.

Re: Comment #9 from Anonymous - January 14, 2009 9:03 PM

I believe the goal of this web site is to watch out for one another and to keep the people that live here informed about what's going on in this neighborhood. In case you didn't notice, or don't have complete comprehension of what you read, the topic of the "Child Lure Incident" thread on this blog was regarding a 7 year old girl that was nearly abducted by 3 BLACK males in a silver car, not about teenagers that live and belong in this neighborhood drinking beer at a block party. If that kind of thing bothers you so much, muster up some balls and go whine to their parents about it at your next block party. But then again, I suppose that's a lot to ask of someone who acts like a tough guy and anonymously authors a written attack on someone's credibility, yet lacks the intestinal fortitude to sign their name to it.

I suggest that you remove your head from your colon and face the fact that racial profiling is not only accurate, it's effective, and that's why it's done. It’s the weak minded, spineless invertibrates like you that attract these monsters to victimize people in our neighborhoods. That's being a realist, not a racist, and if my opinion is offensive to you, that's just too bad. I feel sorry for you, and I’m trying to understand just how difficult it must be for a coward to stand up and protect themselves, let alone an innocent child. But contrary to everything cowards believe in, some people refuse to be intimidated by anybody and will always help their neighbors and fight for what's right, no matter what the outcome.

If it comes between telling the truth or being Politically Correct to keep one of our children out of harms way, there's no contest, you lose. And if you think this neighborhood resembles the "Deep South in 1960" with all the "White Trash" living here, why don't you conduct an experiment and move your family into any one of the thousands of boarded up houses in Englewood to celebrate a weekend of diversity. Let us know how that works out for you on Monday morning, that is, if you're still alive.

And finally, your statement that crime is everywhere insinuates that White neighborhoods are just as dangerous as Black neighborhoods. Are YOU kidding me? Do you know how to read? Are you deaf, dumb and blind, or just a naive moron? Statements like that are absolutely ludicrous and nothing short of what intelligent people have come to expect from the bleeding heart liberals that seem to know nothing about the world in which they live in. Is that classy enough for ya?

A response to the arrogance and ignorance posted on

Oh my Lord! So quick to make accusations of racism! If you want to live in peace and harmony, go to a predominantly minority neighborhood and do it there. If you're feeling oppressed or are soured by oppression, then by all means, go make a change. Go make a difference in the lives of all of the young male blacks that STATISTICS (not opinion or white racist venting) show will likely end up committing crimes, in the prison system, high-school dropouts, drug or alcohol addicted, dependant upon tax- funded, State-supported hand-outs for food, lodging, health care, education, etc. And HOW DARE YOU make a comment such as "no wonder the 22nd dist doesn't show up"!!!! HOW DARE YOU? How many calls do you think they receive from the west-end of 022 that include any of the following: my 10 year-old beat my ass, my 17 year-old won't go to bed, my mama stole my money and smoked it, my next door neighbor is defecating in my yard, the neighborhood kids beat my up my child and took her shoes, my baby daddy pistol whipped me, my baby daddy girlfriend pistol whipped me, my next door neighbor is on the pole stealing my cable/gas/phone/electricity, the gas station attendant disrespected me, 13 year old missing- 17th time out, blue house on corner selling crack and they keep it in the baby diaper, send a supervisor because some police wrote me a parking ticket, 20 female teens fighting on the street with knives bottles and bricks, parents of teens now fighting on the street. I could go on forever with examples of nonsense that the police respond to in the ghetto all day and all night. So don't tell me that tax-paying, law-abiding citizens should be ignored because your liberalism makes you feel superior to them! Guess what? You aren't enlightened and they aren't naive. They have every damn right to expect police service if they feel fearful or threatened, if they feel that a crime has occurred or is about to occur, if they feel that their person, home, car, property, child, pet, lamp post, mailbox or even their damn sidewalk is at risk of being tampered with. They deserve police protection, police service, police response, whether you like their political or moral views or not! Whether you feel they have ‘class' or not. They certainly demand it and get it in the ghettos! Funny that you insinuate that these people should be ignored, the Chicago citizens that pay the taxes that allow city services to be doled out in minority neighborhoods that contribute little or nothing to the tax base. At which point do we begin to allow the ghetto police to ‘not show up'? What the hell will happen then? Those that contribute the least demand the most. What happens when they don't get it? How do you, oh superior one, feel about that? Take your attitude the hell out of this neighborhood. We don't need you. What we do need is for the citizens to continue to call the police when they view something on their block that doesn't belong – whether that be a clown on horseback carrying a folding chair, or a male black teen walking down the street looking at houses and into cars and known to not live in the area. Both could explain their reason for being there but it just doesn't seem to fit with the daily business of the block, does it?
Signed,
A QM parent that wants to keep the neighborhood safe

Can someone verify the story I heard today......that a student from ST. Christina was walking home from school this week and was stopped by someone who claimed to be a Chicago Police officer and frisked the child. Then yelled at the boy to run home. When the boy got home and reported it to his mother they checked with 22 and determined it wasn't an actual officer. ???? If there is any truth to this, I find it very disturbing that there isn't a community alert. But then again if its not true, I don't want to help spread rumors.

The question of the day is what does a monster look like. We all wake up every day and watch the news and only hear about a couple of incidents that have happened in this city of over three million people. There is so much more that people don't know about that is happening in our city. Our city had over five hundred murders last year; it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out whom the monsters are. They are the ones that are being arrested for these crimes. As kids we watch movies and the monsters are easy to pick out because they are the ones with the scary faces and carrying the axe. In the real world it is not so easy to determine who the monsters are, but know this for sure, they are out there and will hurt you or your family for nothing more than what they want and instant gratification. Keep the monsters out of our neighborhood. Call the police if you are unsure. These monsters I am speaking of live for the moment of their satisfaction not thinking or caring about any consequences or feelings of their victims. These monsters are desensitized to any real human nature and have no morals. Just remember this, just because that you don't see them or don't want to see them that they are not really there, because they are. You just can’t turn it off like a TV, if you don't like what you see. This is a great community with great people, lets keep it this way. One person can do something; many people can do many things, so lets work together as a community to help one another. This is a great neighborhood and a lot of us have no other place to go, lets keep it safe and lets watch out for one another. Watch out for your neighbor, even if you don't know them or like them. A great advantage we have here in the 60655 area is that we all work different times and watches and there is always someone home to see what is happening. Sorry to be so serious for those liberals out there, but this message is basically for you, wake up and smell the coffee and welcome to the real world. Or better yet, a great way to make yourself feel better is maybe donate half your check to the Illinois Department of Corrections so that these poor fellas visiting there can become smarter, stronger and be fed better so when their visit/vacation is over they become upstanding citizens of our great city.

guns in households are a good thing I was brought up with guns in the house as a child. If you teach children the respect and take away the infatuation you take away the accidents. The schools should have gun safty classes not antigun laws.

You are right on the money my friend. How often do you hear of a policeman's child being killed or injured by guns laying around the house? Be responsible, if a child knows what that weapon is capable of, they will not go near it. Don't leave it where a child can play with it. Dah!

My name is Ray Maloney. I grew up in 60655. I attended St. Cajetan and Marist. I live in Palos Heights with 4 young children. My wife, Carol, is a Chicago Public School teacher. I own an electronic security company in South Holland. I started Protech Security in 1993 and I’ve been in the security business for over 20 years. Currently, I have an ad in the Beverly Review for custom home security systems. The ad is located on the same page as the police blotter.

If you want a custom burglar alarm system, please call me at (708) 339-4900. If you would like more information, please visit my website at www.protechsecuritycameras.com/beverly.html.
When you purchase a home security system from me, I am the only “salesperson” you will deal with. I design your system and I’m there at your home the day the system is installed. I personally introduce you to our installation team, David W. and Allen R. My reputation is on the line everytime we install a residential alarm system.

I enjoy reading this blog. My brother is a Chicago Police Officer and lives in 60655. As a parent with 4 young children, I can relate with most of the comments expressed on this blog.

Also, for those of you in Beverly, be aware of snow shovelers coming to your house. I know of one situation where at least one "snow shoveler” served as a lookout while a residence was broken into, burglarized and ransacked. This occurred on the 2200 block of west 113th Place on December 17, 2008.

Sincerely yours,
Ray Maloney
