Right?!? More snow on the way! Yeah! At least the new snow will fill in the potholes for a few days. Thanks for the support.

Ron Huberman mess up the cta and other department now the school..he is a outsource man he like to see people lose there jobs. i feel sorry for the school system.

Anonymous said...

Ron Huberman, this person has never been in a position for more than 1 1/2 years.

Fooled the mayor and all the citizens with the TECHNOLOGY that the CPD is suppose to have. All those cameras in the city are monitored by about three people. IF they are not being monitored, they continous swing in 360 loop zooming in and out about every 3 seconds leaving them unable to capture anything. Turned the CPD into a supposed paperless department, yet it uses more paper now when doing reports online then when they had been hand written or typed before.

Was in charged of OEMC when the whole building was shut down a few years ago because a breaker blew. All assignements to the police and fire had been down there the phone lines then. This was because while under his control the OEMC did not have a back up system for when the breaker blew.

Chief of Staff????? Can not fault him for screwing up there, who doesn't

Head of CTA. Screwed their workers pensions. Continually gets new money from Springfield and continually raises rates but always comes back with a dooms days scenario. How many incidents of derailments have ther been on his watch? I do not take the CTA but I do not see thousands of seniors taking the CTA either. Since the plan of the leatting seniors ride free, hubberman is claiming it is costing the city 30 million dollars a year for this program?????? That is a lot of seniors using the CTA at about $1.25 a ride.

Hubberman, perfect Daley choice for any position

Luberman as he is he is called, is a complete hack if I ever met one. He is a Daley family friend he has the right religious background to avoid any white male bias. He knows nothing about everything! Seems to be a great city of Chicago trait.

HOW A BOUT A LIST OF BAD STREETS THAT NEED FIXING; LIKE 107TH FROM KEDZIE-PULASKI..TERRIBLE HOLES.

Anonymous said...

The intersection of 111th and western is terrible the potholes are getting worse day by day. The crap work the contractors due repaving the streets is amazing. Im sure it is all on the up and up no substandard materials or shorting the proper amount of ashphault. These streets need to be done over and over same contractors getting rich by not doing the job properly.

How many 8th graders from St. Christina could pose as an officer for 5 hours onn duty?
How are us teachers supposed to teach them. CPS teachers are not overpaid at all. Ecspecially with the crap Hubbermanis oon to throw our way.
Daley better not lose residency requirement for teachers or it may be flight season.

She is worthless just like the rest of the Democrats and the fools that vote for them in this corrupt city, county and state!!!

Hell is waiting for you Ginger, Richie, Rod and Barack!!!

Sorry, I got excited again.

Jack Ulrich handles the field up keep and had an American flag flying ... God Bless Jack and all he does ... so wow the flag became worn and needed to be replaced ... I remember going to a Cubs Game last year and guess what ... Yeah their flag was tattered and worn ... Maybe it shopuld have been on the national news, huh. It is the symbol of our country ... you know OUR country ... not St. Christina's, not just yours, and not just mine ...but OURS ... so next time you see the flag flying and getting a little worn out ... shock the hell out of yourself ... go over to American Flag company on 39th and Ashland and pick one up ... and if you are a cop or fireman they will give you a discount ... Flag Rules and Regulations:
Section 8k of the Flag Code states, "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." We recommend that you contact your local VFW Chapter and ask them for help properly disposing of your flag. And be sure to consider providing a small donation to them for their assistance. Or you can contact your local Elks Lodge (who created the idea of Flag Day, established officially by President Truman, himself a member of the Elks), the American Legion, or the Knights of Columbus. Some Boy Scout and Girl Scout troups also can provide this service.

The Flag Code, which formalizes and unifies the traditional ways in which we give respect to the flag.

All I am saying is "When a flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner".

I agree ... but to emphasize the fact, like it was it was some form of negligence on the part of St. Christina is unfair and just plain wrong ... and if it bothered you that much then you should have brought it to Father Larry's or Jack's attention ... and guess what ... I am sure it would have been addressed ... but instead you chose to portray it as a DISGRACE ... your word not mine ... if you were a true patriot, you would have bought a new flag ... donated it and been proud of the contribution ... it has nothing to do with how much money the church has ... it had to do with your choice ... and you made the wrong one my friend ... remember the words of JFK ... ask not what your country can do for you ... but what you can do for your country ... and I'll take it one step further ... that includes your neighbor's, your parish, your friends, and maybe the person down the street who does not have what you do ... many tattered flags were carried into battle to preserve our freedoms ... including the one freedom ... the freedom that gave you the right to be critical ... I challenge you to replace the flag ... I will give you a week ... let's see what kind of an American and neighbor you really are ??? If a new flag is not up there, Then I will buy one and replace it for you ... because thats what real Americans do ... quit complaining ... you have a choice ... if you do not like something ... then fight for the change ... or change it...

As a concerned mother I agree that we should call some of these coaches to the carpet. My son may not be a superstar but in 4th and 5th grade shouldnt they be learning, not so competetive, and get some playing time. Certain coaches, coach so their son can pitch, play center in basketball and runner in football. Maybe we should rethink who is coaching. Maybe some of us mom should coach.

If he does such a good job, why did he not change the flag himself, why would this have to be brought to their attention...and why would I buy their flag that they want to fly...I did no tell them to fly these flags...that is freedom of choice...no one buys mine and I have change it often because of Chicago's weather conditions!

NOT A HATER, I WORK 2 JOBS AND WIFE HAS A FULL TIME JOB TOO..YET MY KIDS DON'T ATTEND A CATHOLIC SCHOOL (AND I AM CATHOLIC AND DI GO MYSELF), IT'S OUR CHOICE, IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT MONEY...BUT I DO SEE SOME PEOPLE'S POINT: IF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD FINALLY HAS SOME GOOD QUALITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT THEY CAN GET A QUALITY EDUCATION FROM THAT WE THEY ALREADY PAY FOR IN TAXES, WHY NOT SAVE THE $$, IF THAT'S THE MAJOR ISSUE....I'M MEAN WHAT'S CATH. KINDERGARDEN $4200.00...WOW! IT'S ALL ABOUT PERSONAL CHOICE FOR SOME..

My only question is why do most Chicago Public School teachers send their kids to a Catholic school. Most politicians do the same thing. There must be a reason.

Okay Numbnuts,
You must be sore because you don't have a city job. I am a Chgo. Fireman, fourth generation who had to wait for 17 years to get on. I tested in 1985 right out of high school and landed high somewhat high on the list (the first 2500) and got passed over for a minority. Tested again in 95 and scored 88 when I needed a 89 or above and had to wait a additional 7 years to get called. My great grandfather, grandfather and dad came before me. They took this job and shitty salary in lieu of job security and outstanding benefits, not to mention pride. As years gone on the salary was still shitty but the benefits continue to get worse. Today the city denies dam near every medical claim for my family and now my wife who works full time has to make time to call benefits management and speak to some f-in idiot who if not for the city would be un-enployable any where else. She has to fight to get medical bills paid meanwhile I have collections angencies calling everyday and sending negative marks to credit bureau's for bills that should of been paid. The city that works, what can I say. Now we have the mayor and alderman who get hefty raises every year and better insurance than the rest of us. The fireman and policeman have been working without a contract for almost two years now. The mayor is threatening us with no raises or back pay. He is also talking about closing down fire houses and cutting minimum manning. to close a budget deficet. I reside on the east side of western so I think the first fire house to be closed should be the one on 111th and Albany, because they dont do anything. In the history of Chicago the city has never had money for police and fire. They always seem to find money for themselves and the mayors pet projects such as Olymics. The affirmitive action boss' of the police department cant even stop a 14 year old from showing up to work, how the hell do you expect them to keep some arab from walking in to some sport venue with a suicide vest? Further more asshole if it were not for us city workers we all would be living in Hisndale and Wester Springs because this whole entire city would be just like Englewood.

For some it is a personal choice to go to a Catholic school for most others it is their way of buying into a group that feels they are elite. Buying status without even actually checking into the actual education given. "It must be good, I am paying money for it." The Catholic Schools are just Soroities and Fraternities. Morals being taught?, not likely, Martyrs girls, some as young as 6th grade have been caught behind the AG giving "favors". Students wearing their Martyrs and Christina school gym uniforms as they drink on the railroad tracks and cemetary. It is a choice that only you can make for your kids but don't think you are getting a better education because you paid for it.

So you send your kids to Mo Po or the Ag ...I don't see them closing game's at Rice, Marist, Christina, Martyrs ...etc ... because of shoot outs and gang fights ... let's face it the kids at Mt. Greenwood go to CCD so they can play sports ... where are the school teams there ??? They have them at Clissold and Sutherland ... what no volunteer parents ??? figures ... get involved with your kids and that will keep them from getting in trouble ...

Anonymous said...

Yeah, playing on sports teams is what gets you through life not an education. In this community I guess you need to play sports otherwise what would have to talk about while you are in the bar every night......and where are your kids then?????? Are you a bartender who is raising future bartenders. You volunteer to coach because GOD knows you aren't qualified to do anything else. You make up for your education short comings by swearing and yelling at children while coaching to make yourself feel superior.
Spend time with your kids and teach them something other than sports. Your job as a parent is to educate them to become responsible productive members of society not to relive your glory days through your kids.

IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOL KIDS FROM CCD PAYING SPORTS, A LOT OF THOSE CATHOLIC TEAMS WOULD NOT HAVE ENOUGH PLAYERS TO FIELD A TEAM..SO I GUESS IT GOES BOTH WAYS..

That is not true. St. Christina girls v-ball has 3 teams and there are only a handful of ccd kids on the team.

What's up with these comments about Lee Bilecki? Most of us aren't cops and don't really care about your inner circle of gossip. You sound like a bunch of 10 year old kids for god sake. Keep that stuff on your cop blogs or I'll have to start talking about Gus Freburg the meat packer, and how he pisses me off because he don't clean the Band-saw properly. " A butchers worst nightmare". Would that be an exciting topic for ya'. Who cares, unless he has murdered someone and gotten away with it.

Thank you Nipsy. I will not post anything regarding Lee Bilecki anymore. That last comment accidentially made it through. I do a lot of posting/moderating from my phone and sometimes I hit the wrong button. I have deleted that comment as people's problems and opinions regarding a certain person (that most of us don't even know)do not belong here. It is only to slander. If he is from this neighborhood then so is his family. Would anyone of us want people slandering our husband, wife, kids, etc. just out of spite on a public forum? Think not.

And that's 3 teams per most grade levels. I know for v-ball Cassell, Sutherland, and Clissold all have teams. Mt. Greenwood is the only one that doesn't. It is the parents at these other public schools that have to put together and run the athletic programs and volunteer to coach. If your child goes to Cassell and is in CCD at St. Christina, then heck, you have a choice of which team you want to play on. See people do have a CHOICE.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think kids playing sports rounds out their education besides giving these kids some much need exercise. My daughter is not a superstar, but she enjoys the game. I volunteer to coach because I enjoy doing it, not because I am re-living my youth in some way. And anyone who knows me and my family can tell you that my kids are very well-rounded, smart, responsible and productive kids, which is good news for 60655, because one of them is driving now. As for the bar, yeah, I hit the bar with the girls sometimes to get away from the kids and spend some quality time with adults...is that so wrong??? And don't worry, I usually leave the younger one home to run with scissors and play with matches...all is good.

Mount Greenwood has v-ball teams and plays on two differents leagues. They have basketball and soccer. Check your facts before spouting off.

Something Important

I'm a Mt Greenwood resident and work on the Northwest side so sometimes I do my shopping there before driving home.

I have noticed something very troubling. When I go to buy bread, I always get the bag with the latest do not sell date. This is not my imagination. The bread that I buy on the Northwest side is always 4 to 5 days fresher that the bread I buy at the local supermarkets on the Southwest side. This is not an exception but so predictable that I now buy all my bread on the Northwest side.

Is it possible that the bread manufacturers and bakeries are dumping older bread on us Southsiders? I certainly don't want to think this is possible but I cannot ignore what I have observed. Perhaps someone can shed some light on this.

That's great I apologize then, it seems that whatever league they play in I have just not seen them ... It is really amazing how many bitter people there are out in the neighborhood over schools ... over the silliest of things ... I agree with inandaround60655, that sports helps children get a well rounded environment in school and it teaches them pride, self confidence, and in the proper setting when done right, it some times provides an incentive to students whose grades are borderline to do better so they can participate ... as is done at St. Christina ... Grades and disciplinary issues are a factor whether a player plays or not and students have had to miss time until they got their grades up ... this is a fact ... on the subject of youth coaches, yes there are some good ones and there are some bad ones ... this IS the reality of youth sports ... I have seen some of these coaches berate players, especially in the Mt. Greenwood Colts football ... It is unbelievable and unfortunate ... To coach you should know the sport, some leagues around the country require that a coach take a test and have knowledge about the sport that they are going to coach. Most sports leagues have a requirement as to playing time. However I do know of a coach who purposely sat a kid because he does not like the Dad and that is just plain wrong, and when asked he gave some lame excuse. It was clear to the that this was done and to the credit of the league he no longer can coach. Coaching like anything else is not something that is easy ... As a parent you should expect the following things ... 1. That he is knowledgeable about the sport. 2. That he teaches the sport to all the players, not the just the ones that are talented at that age group. Because you never know .. the Star of the team at 8-9 may end up being the Sub at 11-12. 3. that he is organized, and has practices. I know of one coach who never practiced and when asked why, he replied ... They should already know what to do ... the kids were 10 ... WRONG answer ... I know of kid who was just plain terrible at baseball could not hit, throw, or catch. My friend coached him when he was twelve and he was a good coach. The kid was taught the fundamentals of the game and had a successful year. He told my friend he was going to quit baseball because as he put it "He thought he sucked." Well he found out that he could play and made his high school team. Also his grades which were just average in grammer school, but in High School he was an honor roll student. He went on to college on a baseball scholarship I might add and was drafted by the San Diego Padres. He played a couple of years in the minors and now using his education is sucessful in life. He calls my friend from time to time to let him know how he is doing. The funny thing about this guy was that his own son was a very talented player but would never listen to anthing his Dad said. Like they say the toughest kid to coach is your own. His son also did go on to be a sucessful ballplayer too playing for a small college team and getting a good education to boot. Remember coaches are VOLUNTEERS, their time is important too ... Enough about coaches ... lets talk about the parents ... Having been a youth coach myself one thing I have learned about some of the parents of kids I coached is "That I now have taken over as the roll of babysitter" and those are the parents who usually complain the most. Those are the parents who never help at practice, never play catch with their kid, because "They don't have time." It's funny too because those are the same one's that complain the most about their child's lack of playing time. I had one Mom tell it was my "Job." So I asked her How much she was going to pay me? This parent had a heavy social calender and I often wondered why she had children anyway. Her son showed for two or three of roughly the ten practices I had during the season and she would drop him off at the games, sometimes leaving in the middle of the game. I can still remember her fondly not showing up to pick him up and when I called her, she would say
"Could you please drop him off at home." There was a Dad but I never saw him. This was not an isolated incident either, every year I coached I would have a couple of these type of parents. So remember its not always the coaches and if you want your kids to be successful jump in and help, not just with sports, but with the school work too... and Inandaround keep up the good work

Yeah what neighborhhood are you living in ??? I do not know of any Catholic school in 60655 that would not be able to field a team without CCD kids. Personally I don't think that CCD kids should be allowed to play sports for the Catholic school teams. I think that their parents should start or demand that they have there own teams at their schools. Catholic School parents pay tuition to send their child to those schools and pay taxes for the public school education too ... so I think that since the public school parent is saving that money ... they should say donate ... a third of what they would of spent at the catholic school to have a sports program at their public school ... now that would be fair don't ya think ... you are getting the best of both worlds ... the public school education and sports too ... now isn't everybody happy !!!

How about the loudmouth coach who has kids at christina. None of the parents seem to want him coaching yet he has been coaching for years, he is still there for every sport. His teams are training camp for his sons, always first to bat first to pitch. Maybe he should spend more time listening instead of opening his loudmouth and trying to bully his way into running the football program now too.Thank God I only have daughters!!!

You know who it is ... then say who you think it is ... Right now Frank Granat is still running the program because no one will step up ... and if you only have daughters why would you care anyway ... it does not affect you ... if you do not like this person then tell him to his face ... or do you feel safer on the blog ...

Your comment was a mouthfull but so very true. There are so many parents who care more about their child being on the "A" team than the education of their child.

Believe me their education should be your first priority. You need a 2 year degree to be a police officer.

Yes I feel safer on the blog. And so you know whoever runs football also runs cheerleading. So i do look out for my daughters. So whoever runs the program affects the morale of the whole community. The community must chose wisely and ensure the right person is chosen. I did not name, names, but if everyone pegs who this person is as the loudmouth bully coach , by my description of a loudmouth, bully. Then maybe he should step down from his pedestal. If you think this describes ANY COACH, then that coach should be removed, no matter who it is.

Well the only name mentioned has been Kevin Wirtz ... If you do not want some to coach you can go to the athletic association meeting and voice your reasons why that person should not coach ... The coaches are voted on by the board, if can provide a VALID reason then make it ... if you just don't like that person ... then say who he is so others can form their own opinions since you do not have the courage to come forward ... I'll make it easy for you ... what grade does he coach and what sport??? It cannot be football because only one coach has kids playing and he coaches varsity and his kids are JV ...

I will not post again regarding any particular coach. I like everyone else belives Kevin Wirtz is the right pick. He is a good man, who really wants the best for the program. He has never pushed his sons to play in fact some of them do not play. He is the nicest person who has the heart of the parish and the community in his thoughts and actions. He is his own person who does not live through his boys, nor does he attempt to loudmouth nor bully his way into anything. He is a lifelong resident of the neighborhood, not a transplant, who has the best for all involved in mind. As far as other coachs who may not be up to par. watch their actions and judge for themselves. Ask the parents of the players who are still developing what they think of each coaches style. That is a true measure of the man or woman. playing times and fairness to developing children. Not how many hands he or she shakes as they bully and loudmouth themselves and those around them through life.

Like I said, if you have a problem with a coach, any coach, at any school or league ... there are steps you can take to have that coach censured or removed ... but YOU have to have a valid reason ... at St. Christina's the recourse is contacting the school or the athletic association ... they have monthly meetings to discuss these issues ... the date and time of these meetings is posted in the church bulletin ... you CAN make a complaint or the parents can make a complaint ... they have the same thing at many of the different leagues in the area also ... if you feel strongly about a coach or coaches methods then make a complaint ... otherwise you can stop complaining ... it shows that you do not have the courage to address the problem, therefore you will teach your kids to look the other way also ... it's called "I am not going to get involved." You are the same person who will see a crime in progress and do nothing because it is not YOUR buisiness or it does not affect you personally ... you are one the type of parents who I alluded to in one of my earlier posts today ... you are a COMPLAINER ... you cry and criticize when your kid lacks playing time but you will do nothing to make him or her better ... so you blame the coach ... Like I said ... you have a choice ... if you do not like something ... change it ... be part of the solution not the problem ...

Dear Village Voice,
I did not like your attitude at first. But believe it or not you have been more than helpful. And you are right complaining on here will not cause needed change. I do appreciate the information on how to bring a complaint. I felt helpless in this matter, but now see there is recourse. Thank god we do have a board. i will take my concerns to the board . I am sorry for utilizing this as my forum to complain, I should have asked how to lodge such a complaint. Thank you for giving me such information to correct my ignorance it is the Catholic thing to do, Thank You.

does anyone think a Homerun inn pizza place would go over big in MG. What does every one think??

That is not true. St. Christina girls v-ball has 3 teams and there are only a handful of ccd kids on the team.
NOT FOOTBALL

anyone sick and tired of these city workers bitching about daley? come on...if you are so miserable just leave your job. it should be pretty easy for you to do that...since the job was probably given to you. move somewhere else...go to western springs, hinsdale...those people would except you with open arms!

if you don't like the city leave. vote daley out..do something productive stop complaining! be grateful that you have a roof over your head! jeez!

I dont get it? If daley is acting like an idiot and spending our money on crap, we cant bitch? We work for the city so we cant have a hard line opinion? Who made you the work silencer? Daley and his alder-losers have fleeced this city dry, if you work at least. If you are illegal or lazy they seem to build you a new schoola nd take care of your every need. I will call it as I see it wherever I work.

Home run inn would be great. They could put it where the old used car lot and that abandoned strip of stores is at 111th & Spaulding. But I don't think that will happen because Rugai would most likley block them from getting a liquor license.

That is what blows me away when people keep voting all these dirty democrats back in. They are bleeding us dry. I hope when Blagovich goes down he brings more with him. I voted as a democrat my whole life, but they are all crooked. WAKE UP PEOPLE.
