If you have had great service, prices and all around great experience with a company, please list them.
*** I had to take off bad businesses because as one person commented, I could be sued for libel. In this liberal PC world...you can't say negative things about any PROPER NOUN.*** You can talk good about anyone all you want, but G-d forbid if you say something negative, even if it is the truth.
So in the future, if you make a negative comment about someone, such as our alderperson, mayor, blah, blah, blah, please do so with discretion. I think George Orwell was on to something in 1948 when he wrote the book 1984. Big brother is definitely watching.

Anonymous above, good advice on getting sued. There was a website owner who was sued and even though everything she said was true she had to pay thousands to defend herself. 60655 don't go there, it's not worth it. Only post positive reports on good business's. That's why I only post positive stuff and let people find out for themselves. Sometimes people have a bad experience and then next person has a great experience. Every small independent business owner is going to have a mix of both. For the most part people do not invest in opening a business and "try to" provide bad service or products. It doesn't make sense. i was just talking to a friend who work for the city and he was told that all city worker have to take 20 days off no pay..this start in
MAY. working 4 days a week and it ending in SEPTEMBER..

I don't know about businesses, but individuals in public service are not covered.
If someone was to post something about an alderwoman who does nothing for the Mt. Greenwood area or how she NEVER speaks up for the police and fire who she represents, there is no legal ramification.
Talking about your neighbor, is just wrong.
But honestly, the libel laws are very fluid.
Talking about the poor service at the ABC pancake restaurant is fine.
Claiming it was closed because of rodents when in fact it wasn't, is not fine.

Your analysis of current defamation law is very fluid. I don't think you should be rendering legal advice without studying the subject in depth.
The law is as follows: Anyone who defames another person or business is liable for damages. This includes the person who operates the blog.
Does anyone in America remember this from way back in 1791? This IS America..........isn't it?

It too bad when people have to bite their tongues when they exchange info about certain business experiences they had for fear of a "law suit". Freedom of speech must be a thing of the past. No wonder our democratic friends was to take "conservative" talk show hosts off the air. WHY, because they tell the truth or because they hurt someones feelings? I believe it is the latter. Get some thick skin America and quit your belly-aching. I have been told of places that were substandard and should not go there, but I like to see for my self and make up my own mind and have had a nice experience. So don't forget your right to speak, this is America not Russia even though some people would like it to be!!!!

When you go to the travel websites, people leave reviews all the time. Good and bad. So how is this different? Film critics leave their opinion about films, Better Business Bureau etc. I think if you get sh***y service somewhere you should be able to leave your review of the place.
City workers mandatory 20 days off...... Is this for non union workers? The unions will never go for this. The police contract is going on 2 years without a new contract. I can't see it happening.
There is actually case law now that anonymous posts on blogs are not the responsibility of blog owners and operators. And for someone to try and prove damages from an anonymous post on a local blog would be impossible. Someone or some buisness is a little over sensitive.
I heard that the local ward superintendant from streets and san just got 29 days off. I hope its not true because I think he works his ass off.
