Paul Vallas to Replace Stroger?

I don't know what the rest of you think, but maybe if Vallas would have won the governor's race, Illinois wouldn't be such a laughing stock for the rest of the country? Please let him win...Stroger is a pompous idiot who should never have gotten into office riding his father's coat tails! What is your opinion, do you think Vallas can win and turn the County around?

From the Southtown:

Former Chicago Public Schools chief Paul Vallas is planning a return to Illinois to run for the presidency of the Cook County Board of Commissioners.

Vallas, who currently heads the New Orleans school system, told the Chicago Sun-Times he will run as a Republican, a party that has not controlled the board since Richard Ogilvie in 1960. The current president is Todd Stroger, son of the long-time president of the board John Stroger, who died in office.

Vallas contends Cook County government is broken, and said he likes to fix things.

Vallas lost the 2002 Democratic gubernatorial primary to Rod Blagojevich by about 25,000 votes. He then moved on to Philadelphia to head that city's public schools.

I'm no fan of Stroger or the other Cook County Democrats, but this guy has no credibility with me. He's like a carpetbagger. He's been out of town for years and suddenly he's going to return and save us!

Are you kidding? Anyone would be better than that dope Todd Stroger. 10.75 sales tax! Billions of dollars in debt! Give me a break. This goof has absolutely no experience running anything, accept maybe a lemonade stand when he was a kid.

Carpet bagger? No credabilty? He is the one who turned around the CPS. He got to popular and Daley ran him out. Tried to run for gov but got no backing from his former boss, daley, who he made look like a genius by turning around the CPS. Now he has gone on to two other school systems in the country and helped to right them.

VOTE VALLAS

I would vote for him! It's definetly time for change! Stroger is a joke and a thief! My dog could do a better job than him!

VOTE VALLAS, STROGER HAS TO GO!

Stroger is a smug little jerk...I see him everyday. If anyone would like a good laugh, come down to a County Board meeting...it's open to the public, especially during budget time! Chicago and Cook County need to clean house!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Vallace from the neighborhood. I applaud him returning. It will be nice to have a winnable candidate that will help remove these nepotistic "leaders". The earlier comment about Vallace being ousted and shunned by his own party for previously showing his competence and independence of the daley machine is correct. He is exactly the type of leader we should and need to rally behind.

"carpetbagger" afraid not!!!

Remember people Daley has run out all the decent people who where a threat to his domain.

Mariam Santos-indicted over bs by Scot lazzara Daley plant

Tim Evans-made chief judge
eliminated the black factor Jake's ran against the mayor

Chuck Ramsey-popular police commander among the rank and file, demanded the end of merit/patronage in the civilian police jobs, exiled to Washington DC denied the superintendent's job

Paul Vallas fired exiled.

Any one who is a threat AND COMPETENT Immediately removed as political threat.

Stroger is a joke we can only pray Vallas takes him out. But the idiots who vote as their union tells them keep idiots like stroger in office and our taxes keep going up to pay for it.

Todd Stroger should get out of politics and go back into acting again. It WAS him that played "Urkel" on the "Family Matters" sitcom,... wasn't it?

If it wasn't for his old man, that moron would be selling pencils on a corner somewhere.

I wish someone told me before I left the CFD that it's OK for our kids to take over our jobs when we retire or can no longer do them. I would've sent my Son right over to my old Firehouse and let him run that Fire Company after I left.

Why not? His name is the same as mine.......and he even wears the same size boots!

Life long democrat here who will vote for Vallas. Cook County government has become a family business for many of our elected officials. Vallas is very aware of Chicago style politics and does not like it.

Paul Vallas was Daley's Chief Staff at one time and Head of CPS. With all of the corruption in city government, why didn't Vallas blow the whistle. Vallas knew Daley was crooked and didn't say one word. He is definitely a carpet bagger.

if vallas is a carpetbagger what is Jody Weis

Blow the whistle!!!! Why waste your time and commit political and professional suicide by blowing a whistle on a deserted island where there is nobody to here it. If he tried to blow any whistle, he would have been called "CUCKOO" by his former boss, thus placing a brick on him and any future means of employment and ways of supporting his family. Besides, if he ever had enough dirt on the regime to be worth while, huberman would be following in his shoes!!!!

you call a former resident of this community, whose family has remained within the close proximity to this neighborhood while he commutes back and forth, a carpet bagger... Where did you expect a former head of one of the largest school systems in the nation to gain employment after being run out of CPS and having his attempts at running for Gov. thwarted by his own party? I believe he lost to Blago by only 2% of the popular vote in 2oo2. And that was when Blago had full backing and endorsements from da mayor and the rest of chicago's "political elite."

What political position did he ever run for outside the state of Illinois? How can a person who does not run for political office in other states/areas be considered a carpetbagger? CEO of schools is not an elected position in any state.

So, continue to make up your own definitions to words, continue to vote straight democrat on your ticket during the next elections, regardless of whom you are voting for and how they have and will continue to degrade your and your families' lives by pilfering "their personal treasure chests" aka our hard earned money, aka our taxes!!!

Personally, I will welcome this breath of fresh air with open arms!

"Life long democrat" , you say that with such pride, considering they have destroyed this city and state with theft and mismanagement

Maybe this is a way to get rid of little Stroger. Richie can't go against his own party but he can ask someone to cross lines. Don't be fooled.....Vallas is and will always be a democrat.

Let us not forget the last 8 years with a republican president. Talk about ruining a country!

In three weeks, Obama has put in place more damaging policies than George Bush did in his last four years. Now that's gettin' er done.

They're all shades of the same gray.

As for the person that said the country became worse under G.W. BUSH must have forgotten we were not attacked under his watch. Also the economy was fine until the Democrats took over Congress and the Senate. No sooner than Obama took office, Iran launched a rocket with a surveillance capability into space, a act they would not have done if Bush was still President, they were deathly afraid of him because he had guts. As for Cook County, could someone explain to me what happens to all the Tollway money, the Lottery money, liquor taxes, gas taxes, cigarette taxes, pop/soda taxes, luxury taxes,etc...We better wake up people and vote these crooks out or we all will be selling pencils on the corner..

I would vote for Paul Vallas in a heartbeat. If anyone can beat Erkel(stroger)he can. I also think Erkel's look-alike father(Rollover Burris) should also be kicked out of office just like his bed partner Blago.
