Rancid Burritos anyone

From the Suntimes New Groups (Dec. 4).... This is just nasty...

A Southwest Side restaurant has been cited after city health
inspectors found mouse droppings
and spoiled meat in the establishment.

Health Department spokesman Tim Hadac said inspectors went to The
Burrito Station, 2750 W. 111th Street on Tuesday and about two
pounds of cooked steak that had a foul odor and was being stored at unsafe temperatures The staff was instructed to discard the meat, which they did.

A $500 citation was issued for the food stored at an unsafe
temperature, Hadac said.

Mouse droppings were also found in an area were food was being stored and a back door had a gap that could potentially allow access by vermin, which
resulted in two citations carrying $250.00 fines each, Hadac said.

A uniformed Morgan Park District police officer claimed he picked up a food order at the restaurant about 12:15 p.m. Monday, police said. He went back to the police station and began to eat. When he took a bite of a burrito,he tasted what seemed to be sewage in his food and spit it out, after which the health department was contacted, police said. Hadac could not confirm the officer's account and had no information about reports of sewagein food, but said inspectors will return to the restaurant by Dec. 9 to follow up on the citations.

We ordered a takeout from La Fiesta at 3333 W. 111th Street last Wednesday night 12/03/08. We ordered Steak Fajitas & a Steak Burrito. The Burrito was warm on the outside and "ice cold" on the inside. I didn't think too much of it, put it in the microwave for 90 seconds, and then ate dinner.......big mistake. I've never gotten sick from food before and always figured I had a cast iron stomach, I was wrong! About 7 to 8 hours later I woke up sick to my stomach and cramping. I literally didn't know which end to stick in the toilet.

Fortunately I had some of the food left over and sent it to an independent laboratory on Thursday for testing. I called the Chicago Dept of Health and they said they will inspect the restaurant, but in typical Chicago fashion, would not commit to a time. I couldn't stay off the toilet long enough to go to the ER for about the next 8 hours, so I just kept drinking plenty of water and Gatorade to keep myself hydrated and rode out the storm.

In any event, do yourself a favor and stay away from these sewers they call restaurants that hire nothing but "3rd World illegal aliens." They couldn't care less about cleanliness or personal hygiene, and they're preparing our food.

I would think that with unemployment quickly approaching 8% on the national level, these restaurants could start getting American kids to go to work for them, but who knows?......., seems like it's above kids to go out and work these days....and that's OUR fault!

Just thought everyone should know what's going on in one of our fine neighborhood restaurants, as most of us regularly patronize many of our local businesses. Choose carefully.

Got the results back from the Laboratory today 12/10/08, here are the results:
Aerobic Plate Count = 183,000 (should be under 25,000)
Coliforms = 26,000 (should be under 10)
E.coli = none detected
Staphylococcus = +30 (should be a negative number)
Yeast & Mold = 50 (permissible range)

I’ll update when I hear what the Chicago Dept of Health finds.
